Yeah, sure, BioWare is making a KOTOR MMO.

Also, they're hiring John Smedley to run it, seeing as SOE has been bought by the Kwik-E-Mart folks...

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

KOTOR MMO would be great. Unfortunatly with Smed involved I would hope everyone would Boycott it till they got rid of him. I dont usually advocate such a thing but I for one am sick of Smeds excuses and apologies.

Anyway it goes I would not play it until I saw what all ya'll on MMORPG.com had to say about it.

I'm afraid that the bigger game companies are just mesmerized by WoW, and any startup cash for a new company will have to deal with moneymen who are mesmerized by WoW.

So, look forward, for the present, at least, to an endless stream of WoW clones, each hoping to somehow out-WoW WoW and get some of those sweet, sweet subscription numbers.

The NGE showed us, unfortunately, what the trend in the MMO industry is.  Slavish attempts to be like WoW, except with amaturish graphics.

Sadly I have to agree with you. This trend will probably keep going until some small developer decides that they are ok with 200k -300k subs and makes a great game that far surpasses those expectations. At that point we will see a flood of those types of games.

Im holding out hope for Fallen Earth. At least its not a regurgitated fantasy setting.

SWG NGE is a good example of an attempt to be a WoW clone.

Basically, directed content, as in linear storylines leading to endless raiding, with a rigid class and level system. Total concentration on combat, with secondary consideration to crafting.  Loot-centrism.

WoW is the ultimate 2nd generation MMO.  They've taken all the aspects of the 2nd gen MMO and come close to perfecting them.   Oh, and simplified the game so that it is very accessable to the masses.

The sad thing is that as other publishers attempt to imitate WoW's formula, they invariably tend also to miss key elements in its success: relatively bug free gameplay, an elegant and functional UI, good to great customer service.

They've already said RMT's involvement was with a future, as yet unnamed casual game. But hey, making up information is always much easier than actually doing a little reading and thinking--witness this thread.

Well, the thread was started as snarky commentary on all the rumors...and taking them to an extreme that undermines the wishes the rumors might possibly be true.

As I've stated elsewhere, the problem is that the NGE itself was an outlandish rumor that no one could buy into because, we reasoned at the time, no one could be THAT stupid.  Plus, SWG reps assured us that it was a mistake, that nothing like the NGE was in the works, that there was no need to panic.

Yet as November of 2005 dawned, all of SOE's fevered denials were rendered inoperative, as suddenly the truth changed and the NGE was presented to a stunned SWG playerbase...and stunned SWG reps, I might add.  I think that one of the leading reasons Tiggs left is that she had been lied to, too.
