Let me point out some of the game's Highs and Lows...... this is just what i think....
Character Creation!!! You'll spend 1/3 of your CoH experience designing the look of your character. Trying to decide what color and what suit is addictive. You'll be designing more characters than playing the actual game. The customization process will totally ruin your married life.
Combat! What i really loved about the combat system are the combo attacks. You can send enemies flying, watch them get sprayed by ranged attacks while going down, and still be able to kick them while they're down. There are lots of Combos you can do with ranged and melee attacks and they look awesome. BURST-JAB-JUMP-KICK-STRAFELEFT-HAYMAKER-STRAFERIGHT-KICK-*knocks opponent down*-one more KICK-UNLEASH FULL AUTO!!!!!! bratatatatatatatatatatat!!!!!! rest then smile....
Graphics! This is not your average 1990 3D game. Awesome graphics BUT it is best viewed with more than 500mb RAM. Yup! The graphics isn't for the average computer. A low end 3d card will do but you'll suffer freeze ups and crashes even if you're playing using cable connection. But if you own a really good computer then prepare to be hypnotized by the awesome effects and colors!
and...
Economy! NOT IN THE GAME! The developers lost the economy program in their last spring break party. "Influence!!! what the *tooot* is 100 influence!!! THEY GAVE ME INFLUENCE BUT FORGOT TO MAKE AN INLUENCE BANK!!!! OMIGOD OMIGOD mommy!!!"
10 levels of happiness! the game is perfect only in it's first ten levels... you'll feel the need to trade, make stuff, explore.... and then realize it aint in the game.... you'll begin to realize that the game isn't for people who want diversity... and then tell yourself, "Shouldve picked a 3d shooter.... why the hell didnt i go for a shooter.... what the hell is wrong with me.... i need help..... help!"
People still love CoH. They know it's a young game with lots of growing up to do and they'll be there with their ideas and suggestions.
Let's just hope the developers know how to read comments.... MUWAHAHAHAHA

You make some good points about the strenghts and weaknesses of this game. While it is fun, it doesn't have a huge amount of depth of variety in what you can do. And yes, after level 10 the level grind really does start, and by level 20+ it's just grind grind grind. But they've just released the new update which has a number of cool changes, new missions, new features, etc.
While I think this game is fun, it is definitely a very action oriented MMORPG, with not a large variety of other stuff to do at the moment. But I needed something to tide me over till WOW comes out and a lot of my friends play CoH.

The designer has often stated he wants someone to be able to come on for 30 or 60 minutes and have a good time...
The game is simply not meant to be played for 3, 4 and 5 hours a day like other MMOs... on the flip side, it's brought a lot of new blood (read: money) into the MMO market which is good for all of us...
Though I have tons of fun post level ten, I understand that those looking for traditional forms content find it lacking, and i respect that... I've noticed that if you read the missions and follow the storylines that the game is a lot more fun, it helps you forget what level you're on and just be a superhero...
AND they've released a patch AND more game is coming out every month... I love it...

I guess it's time for me to focus on the missions and the storyline.
I have been leveling countless characters and totally forgot about the missions and storyline part of the game.
I'll be back after doing the missions....

do you see this smiley?
that represents the first 10 levels of CoH.... noticed anything new? here it is again and look carefully-- .
ok now let's add another 10 level, .
now, do you notice the difference? Nothing eh? yup! N--T-H-I-N-G changes!
you just get new sets of cool powers but those are just new graphics and effects of what you had before you get them.
you can go repeat what you did in the first ten levels after getting new powers.... now that's retarted.
Nothing changes ... yet you don't have to spend a half hour getting from one place to the other after 14. But that contradiction doesn't matter, because you can just ignore like you did before!
well i didnt ignore the things in CoH if you havent' realized yet....
where did i get my comments if i ignored the contents of the game?
and those are the same comments from other players...
well as i was saying, the game is young and has lots of potential to grow into a very good mmorpg considering it's very good start. i'm just trying to share my comments on the game and i dont want to be another one of those people who are keeping quiet on the obvious.
i'm still playing CoH by the way and i'm still leveling my characters and playing the misisons. i know you're stoked out on the game yellow and lots of people feel the same but we aint the same
The game consists of killing stuff, getting new powers, and keeping your enhancements up to par with your level as far as things to do. What changes is how you get to the killing grounds, what you kill, and where you kill.
I think CoH's a really nice game, just like all the other MMORPGs it is a level grind, its problem is that it makes no effort to disguise that other than the mission/storyline tidbits. In other games, you have new equipment that changes your appearance through out character development, you have complicated character speccing systems that change your playstyle and require planning, quests to finish that will change your class or status or abilities in some way, PvP that gives you a break from the grind, etc. These are the things that motivate people to put up with level grinds in other games. Some people enjoy bashing mobs just for the sake of bashing mobs, and CoH is perfect for that.

Notice anything different, ROFL. Man that was funny.
Actually at 20+ the game starts to take a huge turn. Blasters are the golden boys of the upper game level. Its all about who can do the most damage in the shortest time frame. So where in other MMORPGS you have options such as out lasting your enemy, debuffing your enemy, buffing yourself higher than the enemy, crowd crontrols such as rooting, mezing, snaring etc etc, all of that goes out the window and it becomes the domain of the blaster.
While the zone names do change the higher you go up, and the mobs change slightly, I would say by 10th or so youve seen most of the content.
When I first posted that they would need content in their game, cryptic responded that they would have items for sale such as armor, jet packs, guns, swords etc etc, but that they would be scaled down versions of the super powers. Before they instituted classes I told them that they would need to have some way to balance the heroes and then several months later BAM classes were introduced and of course they failed to balance them. Why? Probably because they didnt do enough high level testing.
The missions are a joke. You will quickly memorize the maps. The story line, well.... its static. When you save people... well its static. You cant accidently hit citizens (As they said you would be able to), you cant damage the city or objects such as cars. You cant jump onto moving cars... So... Basically kill stuff is the object.
Have you seen the bad guys who are supposedly fighting other bad guys? You save the cowering bad guy, and what do they do? Start shooting at you of course... Makese sense to me...
Good Things: Its a super hero game. It has nice graphics. You can spend all day designing costumes. They have some interesting EMOTES. They have a macro system. You dont have to wait until level 40 to get a travel power, and you dont have to be uber rich in game. There isnt any camping... kinda. You can fly! And that is a big plus. You have knock back and that is very cool, so you dont just sit toe to toe type kill kill kill. The powers all have neat effects, although I really wish you could turn them off for certain powers. For instance if you have fast reflexes why show the rings if you dont want them displayed? Anyways getting off subject. You dont slow down when swiming. It may not be wall crawling but you can jump up buildings by using tyhe window ledges. Bad guys do take falling damage but if you ask me it is not extreme enough, should be more extreme for heroes too, just jumped off a 20 story building and only lost half hit points at level 5. Swords, Maces, Fire Swords, Ice Swords, giant stone mallets, guns, gernades, and of course pets. Blobs, aliens, robots, and although I hate these, dead guys (what mmorpg would be complete without the living dead). Lots of good stuff. Lots of bad stuff.
played AC for a while.
at level 1 I was tinkering and hitting mobs with a dagger
at levl 126 I was tinkering and hitting mobs with a dagger
Played EQ, at level 1 I was hitting mobs with a sword
at level 65 I was hitting mobs with a sword.
Played Eve, at day one I was mining and shooting lasers at ships
at day XXX I was mining and shooting lasers blah blah blah
played FF7, at level I was was hitting critters with a sword, at level XXX I was hitting mobs with a sword.
Claiming a game never changes from level x to level xx is about the stupidest arguement possible because EVERY game breaks down to doing the same thing over and over again. be it a single player game or a multi player game or an MMO the basic principles of the games do not and should not change radically at any point in the game. afterall if you started the game hitting mobs and then had to stop and mine then stop that and shoot lasers no one would like the game because regardless of what someone liked the game would force them to engage in activities they did not enjoy just to get to the parts they liked only to later take the parts they liked away again.
Get it?
of course you do, every troll knows these things before they hit "submit" anyway.

heeheeh now this is getting interesting....
troll... hahahaha i just pointed out some of the bad stuff in the game and now.... i just had my second mutation hahahahaha gotta go to a trainer....
can you tell me the game's other content to keep you busy and creative?
im going to give you an example of a good game that people say shit about. Earth&Beyond. You can Explore, Fight, and Trade your way to whatever you want to be in this game. The Race and Class of a character in this game will not in any way hinder you in doing all you want in the game. There will be restrictions on things to do but that is part of what your race/class background. Storyline and Missions are not as deep as someone else's "uber L337" game but this is a hundred times better than what CoH has to offer at the moment. EnB has rewards for players who grind, they call it shiny-things-that-kicks-ass-and-kiss-ass-that-gives-you-bragging-rights-for-a-few-minutes. You can go retarted zooming in and out of your priced possesions in EnB that gave you more debt than your total experience and still able to give you a smile in the end, or you can go retarded jumping off buildings and hit fly/hover/teleport in CoH before you hit the ground for the rest of the day. You can make your own equipment in EnB for keeps or trade it with other player and actually use the busiest chat system in the game, or you can just use your multi-gun in CoH because you don't have a choice. I don't know if people knew someone in the superhero universe called Forge--he used to make things--. Maybe i'll see him next time doing the Socks-and-Shoes dance in the mall because he didn't get a better power. Diversity isn't so popular nowadays.
anyways i'm off to get my second mutation...... *ZAAAP!* me troll!!!
frankly i dont know why people see my post as another "Dont play this game" post.
this is just a compilation of my views for people who, like me, wants game diversity. let's admit it, the game rating here in mmorpg.com does not really justify the credibility of CoH as an overall great game. the game has good contents and the game also doesnt have enough content to please the paying crowd and that, in my opinion does not get 8 in my world.
and dont tell me which game not to play...
i play all game i want and if you feel hurt about some comments then i suggest not reading the comments posts. muahahahaha
I agree whole-heartedly with the original poster. I got CoH when it was first released, and while it had a very polished feel and was fun for a bit, there just wasn't much breadth to the game. You'll either find yourself hunting or doing missions. The developers are doing a good job of getting some other combat oriented things up and running (trial missions, task forces), but these are things that should have been in from the start.
What really killed the game for me was that the game isn't very balanced. Different Archtypes match up pretty well, however choosing certain builds can fatally gimp your character. There are many useless powers in the game that, if chosen, will make it harder and harder for you to be effective, and the less effective you are the slower and slower the grind becomes. Some Primary powers really don't work with certain secondaries effectively, even if by the descriptions they would seem like they would. In addition there are certain powers (I.E. Stamina, Hasten, etc.) that are almost mandatory. The game almost seems balanced specifically for these powers and if you didn't choose them your going to have a very tough time. All this ends up forcing you to research your character before making him, and kills the game for casual gaming, which is what it was really meant for.
