I just googled it and the most sites where saying that they will announce it in 2008, we will see it by then
Diablo as a MMO is an interesting idea, I just hope it isn't a Starcraft MMO...yuck.

There is no information about Diablo 3 as of yet because Diablo 3 doesn't exist as of yet.
All we know for sure is this:
Blizzard has a Project Hydra in the works
Project Hydra could be a MMO because Blizzard said they were working on a "next gen MMO"
However, Blizzard also revealed that the size of the team working on Project Hydra is the same as Starcraft 2, 40 people. WoW on the other hand has an operating team size of over 130 people.
At Blizzcon Blizzard said that the only Starcraft game in the works is SC2.
If there is a Diablo 3 Im guessing it will be like Guild Wars/Hellgate London. Also, very likely be very bloody and violent with mature themes. Not like WoW at all.
I hope so, because that's what I liked about the original Diablo as a kid. It really scared me in some cases with the music, lack of lighting, and not knowing if you'll get ambushed by a heroic mob or not. It really was fun because you really didn't know if the next mob will hand you your bottom, gift wrapped with a pretty bow on top.

geez i've been waiting for diablo3 from time when i played first time diablo2. though there never wasnt talk about that kind of game coming.. im not sure if blizzard wants to make more diablos even though it would really be something that would make so many fans die in anticipation
i, myself dont even care if it werent mmorpg, i would really like to play it even if it would be offline hack and slash.. such talk about diablo3 mmorpg would be nerds wet dream... atleast mine for example
Google it, most sites are saying that the announce it in 2008 and there are already 4 years busy with making it. You got 2 realms: Heaven & Hell. More i don't know
im stil concerned whether this is true or false, last time i looked up about diablo3, i only found rumours about it and no real evidence or statements of blizzard, and i tried to look for it even now and found nothing more than some fan based forums talking about it... and you said it that they have been doing it for like 4 years now.. umm.. something isnt right... i need hard evidence about this, there was some sites telling me that diablo3 would be out in 2007 and this year is over already.but we will definetely see whats going to happen, and of course i hope you are right and im too skeptic about it

there won't be a diablo mmo since people are sick and tired of swords, elfs and the fantasy genre..
if ever, then there will be a science fiction mmo...

Look WAR it's all about elves, orcs, magic and swords and people are still interested in it. Or look at WoW there are still 9 million players there who all love fantasy mmorpgs.
About Diablo III, i hope it is not a mmo, because diablo games always been fast combat games. How to get fast combat in a mmorpg? With 2 factions! If they do it they ruin the game i think.
Edit: I played both Diablo's and there are no races in except human, so...

This is not 9 millions of player for wow but 9 million subsciption in the wow lifetime so far. This is not the same thing.
Even that if people continu to play fantasy genre mmo with elves and orc this is simply becuase there is no good other genre right now exept for eve online and Anarchy online (but this one is old).
I can say for sure than im very tired of elves and orcs.

Ok there are people sick of fantasy style mmorpgs, but there are a lot people who aren't. Maybe you don't like it, it won't say nobody likes it?
You can't compare WoW combat with Diablo II combat. Diablo II is not about kill one-three mobs, rest and go again. Diablo II is run in kill big groups and rush forward. I presume you have never played Diablo II

Considering the fact that the team that made Diablo 2 left to make Hellgate:London, or w/e, I doubt there's going to be a Diablo game anytime soon. This is of course unless they've been working on re-building that department over the years.
I see the next-gen MMO being Starcraft. There's plenty of lore there for an MMO, and there's 3 races. Might not sound like much, but I'm sure Blizzard will make it amazing just like all their titles.
blizzard said about making "new generation MMO" and i cant see diablo being it with its contents... new gen would be scifi-based which would be star-craft or maybe even much more newer genre that we havent been introtuced yet or atleast not much... post apocalyptical genre perhaps ? horror ? as of now, we cant say for sure i guess

Diablo online in full 3D like WoW would clean up
It would be cool in full 3D and with thousands of players, but you miss the essential thing of Diablo II. The quick combat. If they can get that in a mmorpg and you get good PvP. Then i found the best game ever!
diablo2 was intense and dramatic almost all the time... and lot more darker and gory than world of warcraft
and if they were to make D3, i would like to see it live to its darker, almost gothic-like outlook

As far as I know Chris is still working for Blizzard. He is credited as Creative Director for WoW's Burning Crusade expansion. Most likely you don't see any conceptual art work from him because he's too busy with other things.
