You can't put AO on that list of F2P games since for several years in the beggining it was a P2P game. They had to go F2P after tons of their population left due to horrible expansions that altered gameplay (Shadowlands) or just to play other titles (SWG, etc).
In response to the OP I would say P2P for me, the F2P games are just horrible IMO. There not even 1/3 as good as most Online games.

its almost natural that pay to play games wins free to play games. theres so much more things that are watched and guarded in play to play games, community often tends to be a bit better since not all have credit-cards, exspecially young audience so they usually try to find free games.
if i would really try to sound like prick about it, i'd say that all the free games come from korea and all those have horrific graphics, no content in the game, neverending grind and all kids playing it... but im sure theres few games that i would leave off the hook
games that you have to pay for playing it usually has people behind that has more efforts to make it playable and hence, buyable. graphs, community, lore, designs, systems and all that jazz often tends to be more for my liking and i can trust my money to game developers who really are tried to make a piece of art

i personaly hate free 2 play mmorpg's.....i prefer the traditonal pay to play game......
cos they have a better service, more (and better quality) expansions and updates, and they uaully have a more mature comunity (except for WoW) also imo most f2p mmorpg are really poorly made...and have an anoying playing comunity......

Considering how many F2P games are out there, you should play them all before saying "they're crap". Even though a lot of them are generally crappy, there are some that are great. I have played P2P games for a long time and then after a long time of playing WoW I have gotten tired of it. I was considering moving onto WAR but after seeing tons of posts of hardcore WoW players setting up guilds for WAR I thought against it since I don't want to play another WoW.
I have been doing a lot of searching to find good F2P games. I have found quite a few good ones and more good ones are being worked on as we speak. People who just post on here saying "They're crap" should at least state a little more on why they believe they are crap instead of just spouting pointless comments.
I agree with the statement before about comparing the two, comparing P2P games to F2P games is pretty pointless since if F2P games were P2P games they would more then likely be a lot better and have a lot more work done to them. Plus a lot of P2P games are made for more higher end systems (not god like systems) but pretty decent systems. F2P games are games developed for people running on crappy laptops in internet cafes since that is where most people play MMO's in areas like Korea, Hong Kong or China. So, unless your running a laptop and play in internet cafes most of the time then you really shouldn't compare them.
Another thing is people go on about F2P games being "grind-fests". I see no difference in that and WoW. Yeah, I goto a quest guy who tells me to get 20 items which involves grinding off mobs to make a crappy pie, or to kill 15 guys or to kill a specific guy who is surrounded by 20 guys, its all the same just no one is telling you to do so. Grind is Grind no matter is someone is telling you do to it or not.
