MMORPG that will work on my Laptop? Do they exist?

BiggunnerBiggunner Member Posts: 9

So I've been searching for a new MMORPG for a while (played WoW for well over a year but need a change of pace) but all the games that I have tried (EQ2, LoTR) are too demanding for my laptop.  I am a casual gamer and so am not willing to spend the money to get a new computer only for gaming.  So here are the specs of my computer and hopefully some of you can recommend a game that would work with it.

Intel Pentium M (1.86GHz)

1 GB RAM

Windows XP Prof (SP2)

Mobile Intel(R) 915GM Express Chipset Family

128MB Video RAM

Video Card 3d Acceleration

Pixel Shader Ver 2.0

Any tohughts?

Give EVE-online a try. You won't be able to run the updated graphics, but the old graphics are fine. Plus you can try it for 14-days, free!

Basically you should look at the free to play asian games, a lot of them are developed for people to play on laptops.

Well I'm sorry your laptop doesn't have a good video accelerator. Maybe if you had a mobil 6800-7600M then possibly you could play the new games ok, but with that 915GM onboard video will not play much anything.

You could play UO or AC on it ok, maybe even WOW ok but nothing really new. I doubt Eve will even play decently. Good luck.

As a joke maybe you can play this max settings www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/190

It's like mine really, my laptop is like your one except for a few differences:

I have Windows Vista Home Basic as my OS. And, I have an Intel 1.46GHz Dual-Core CPU. And my Intel Express Chipset is of the 965 Family with 512MB of Video Memory - this is why laptops suck for gaming. Oh, and I also have 1GB of RAM.

If you're going to use a laptop for gaming (like myself, as I have no real choice), you're best bet is to look for one with a decent graphics card. Something like the latest nVideo GeForce Go series as these are designed for laptops.

Though, I know most of you don't have a spare $2-5,000 lying around, otherwise I'd suggest getting an AlienWare (www.alienware.com). You ain't going to find much better unless you make your own, which is not always an easy task with laptops.

So yeah, go for the Asian MMOs. Just be wary, they do contain loads of grinding... But you can't do much for that really. The only way you'll know if good games work with your graphics card is by either asking the developer, the reseller or by testing it yourself.

I hate to say this but even though you are looking for another game to play, you kinda, sorta, HAVE TO get another gig of ram. It would help a lot and you'll open your options more. Even though you video card isn't great, more ram would definitely  help.

    Try Guild Wars.

IMO, you don't need another GB ram stick. As 1GB good enough. But, it would still help immensly. Consdering you're using XP, it will help you more than anyone using Vista.

My laptop is about the same specs as yours and it plays Archlord fine. Pretty fun F2P (well, micro payments) game. Quite a bit of grind though.
