Just started..

I just got vanguard for christmas.  I installed it and downloaded all the updates then made a character.  I was immediately turned off by the minimal char customization but i let it slide.

So I get into the world and look around a little bit...fps is around 40-60 in the city and 50-70 in the wilderness.  I was a little dissapointed by the graphics until i realized that my gamma and my brightness were way off..after i corrected that the game looked absolutely amazing on high settings.  What the game feels like to me is a brand new mmo with way less bugs than a new mmo usually has.  I can honestly say the only thing that gets on my nerves at this point about the game is that it heats up my graphics card to 65C and makes the fan spin loud. i really can't complain.

I have a relatively high end system, 6750 3.0ghz, 8800gt 700/1750/1900, 4gig pc6400, but i do run the game at 90% max quality so I'm assuming even a 7600 could pick up decent fps.

I noticed right away that i got that eq1 feel when i entered the game, i didn't really know what to do.  The game for me is eq1 with amazing graphics...once they tweak the character textures and performance a little more this game will be flooded with new comers.

BTW..those of you considering a new computer, they aren't as expensive as they were a few years ago...my pc cost me $987...it's easy to build one yourself, this is my first build and it took about 2 hours.  987 for a rig that gets 12142 on 3dmark06 isn't too shabby.

Also, on a final note...it is very important that you tweak your settings and find out which settings slow your comp down the most.  I'm not sure what all the talk about glitches and such is about, i haven't gotten stuck once nor have i crashed to the desktop.

im glad more people are enjoying the game and joining in.

I myself got the game when it first came out and was very disappointed about the game... but SOE has updated and made the game much better. I will admit there are still a lot of bugs they need to fix and make more customizations to the characters but all in all its a good game and getting better.

I had a friend that played @ start of game and said it was very buggy.  I'd love to try the game, but not sure I want to drop $40 for an ok game . . .

Valo, welcome to the game. Under your settings there's different ways to cut out parts of a scene you're viewing called occulation I believe. Both software side and hardware side options are good to use if they don't cause any issues along with hardware skinning in my experience (I have an 8600GT here with balanced settings and medium texture resolution and I get about 25fps average [range from 18 to 50 fps depending...]). Plus, you might notice quite a few players focus on Seradon and on the Thestrian human side of the game, but it's not very dead for the Orcs and Goblins either, so don't be shy to try the non-human races out sometime. :3

    Welcome.

If they could implement some good things from Everquest such as 1) deep epic Questing and 2) alternative advancement ... the "end-game issue" would be resolved.  Raiding is not as important to people today as it perhaps was years ago.

People want more than raiding.  Many and varied options.

Aye, the more endgame options, the better. I also don't get why recent MMO's only think about Raiding when it comes to having fun endgame.

I joined the Vanguard community again a couple of weeks ago and having a blast. I think i'll create a character on Seradon too, but first I want to focus myself on my Cleric (on Sartok).

    Welcome!
