Keeps crashing - Help please...

in Planetside

Well I got the trial, sadly I can't play... every time I run the game it goes through the loading and just before the loading completes the game crashes...

Im using Windows Vista Ultimate 64 - bit and have a great PC, so its not my specifications....

Also I have the latest drivers for everything.... A lil help please?

    As far as I can tell, Vista and Planetside don't work very well together, however there are some things you can do do make it work ok.

    1. Use compatibility mode, right click the planetside icon and choose properties, then click the "Compatibilty" tab. Choose windows XP(service pack 2)

    2. Locate the planetside.exe in your c:program filessonyplanetside folder and do the same thing.

    There is also a problem with crashing ( for me anyways ) with changing the resolutions from the 1024x768 default to anything else whilst in full screen mode. Here follows the solution.

    1. Run planetside, and login with your account. Press Play.  You will be in Full screen mode here,

        Choose "Options" from the bottom and make a note of the Screen Resolution that you want to use from the dropdown i.e I use 1680 x 1050.

        DO NOT CHANGE THIS FROM 1024x768 ( or whatever is is set to ) or anything else on this screen.

    2. JUST PRESS SAVE. This will create a default set of configuration files that we will edit in point 4.

    3. Shut Down Planetside.

    4. Use explorer to edit the following file using notepad. c:program filessonyplanetsidemachine.ini

        Change the values for width=1024 and height=768 to the values you noted down in point 1 above i.e for   me this is width=1680 height=1050

    5. Change the fullscreen=true to be fullscreen=false. This is the most important thing, for me I cannot make vista support Full screen with any resolution other that 1024x768. This will make Planetside run in windowed mode.

    6. Save this file.

    7. Run planetside and login. As long as you have chosen a resolution that you card and monitor supports it should now run ok.

    I hope this helps someone, it works for me anyway. So good luck and have fun in Planetside
