EVE - Everquest or Tabula Rasa

im new to mmrpgs

narrowed my search down to either Everquest, or eve, as i used to play frontier elite on the amiga years ago so it seems interesting, eve is in competition with Tabula rasa

so.... which wud i choose

tabula rasa

eve

or everquest II

im not looking for a easy game, want sumthing solid to play with lots of depth

from what ive read on the websites wow is too boring and repetitive, eve gets boring coz u have to wait for ur skill points, not really read much bad about everquest other than its quite dated now..tabula rasa apparently gets boring once u reach the higher levels and there isnt much to do

any suggestions appreciated

tks in advance

As you said, if you want a harder and more complicated MMO, choose EvE, the start is a bit hard but then it becomes enjoyable.

If you want a Fantasy MMO with pretty elves (gosh) choose EQ2 or WoW, these two are very easy to understand but gets boring after the few later levels. And theres not much to do at End game beside raiding or just PvPing all day long.

If you want casual and solo friendly game, with alot of action choose tabula rasa, but at its current state its not much worth playing, id suggest you wait some months before playing TR, but you can still try the trial..

    Hope that helped

I'm here to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all out of ass. Because I kicked so much of it earlier.

TR and EVE are nothing alike in any way shape or form...

TR is a third person shooter land based mmo, EVE is a space based point and click style mmo

Id recommend trying the EVE 14 day free trial, as its quite a difficult game to start off with a steep learning curve, although you wont find any game as deep as it.

As said, EVE is one of the most complex and difficult MMOs on the market.  Nothing like anything currently on the market.  Give the trial a go, and ask a LOT of questions.  You'll have to if you want to understand anything.  There is a lot more to the game than just what you see on the surface.

If you want something complicated, I suggest EVE.

TR is rpg/shooter -hybrid, and it doesn't have more depth than WoW. Atm I think it has even less, it's just diffirent enough from everything else to justify its existence.

I wouldn't sugget playing EQ 2. It really doesn't have much more depth than WoW, and it's every bit as repetitive as WoW is. If decide to try out EQ2, try also WoW, and play the one you like better. And if you want to also PvP (=play against other players instead of computer controlled enemies), WoW has much better PvP than EQ2. Altough both games are focused on playin against computer controlled enemies.

I'd suggest keeping an eye on Age of Conan, and Wakfu, both will likely get released some time next year. Also, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes might be good game for you. But it was launched completely unfinished. And in my opinion, you should consider it as unfinished and not worth playing until they launch the trial. They are currently making a trial island, and once they release it, it's definitely worth it to test Vanguard.

jus the one thing sabout eve makes me wary, the fact that u have to upskill in real time, that means it wud take u ages to get to a decent level....

and sum of u guys mentioned repetitive, sumting i want to stay away from, wow is apparently that, and now ur saying eq2 is the same..

I make comments on all 3 MMO's as ive palyed 2 and heard a lot about the 3rd.

    Tabual Rasa

This name means Clean Slate - its set in present day earth where the earth is invaded and destroyed by aliens A few surviving humans escape Via wormhole gates to begine the war elsewhere with the help of 'magic' alien Powers Oh and it idolises 'Generall' Garrot [this guy was the one who insisted everyone call him Lord British in reallife as he is a Roleplay nut who lives in a castle or so im told]. So on the last point i would just avoid it altogether. This game however is VERY new and not only had a lot of bugs but is also short on content especially the engame content which is what makes a MMO. In a years time tho if this one survives it will be a good MMO im sure.

    Everquest 2

Its basiccally very similar to WoW as in its a level mob grinding game with standard armour and grouping mechanics. Graphically tho it is a bit more adult about it and the graphics are actually Passable. It is quick to get in to but it takes a long time to reach the real PvP content As most PvP involved higher level = win. This one is great if you love level basaed games that tell you what to do and it ahs years of content expansions behind it expanding and supporting the game itself.

    EvE

Set in about 30,000 years in the future in a distant star cluster EvE is basically a space trading combat industrial market MMO it has the best in game market around and complex palyer interactions. It does take a while to really get into the game tho as skill learning is time based but once you have a core set of skills you can then really get into it. EvE is a LONG term MMO with Long term goeal and rewards. But for the right palyer worth the time. Top Tip get into a palyer run corp ASAP.

If by repetative you mean doing the same sort of thing again and again then yes all MMO's are like that its part of how they keep you subbing.

In teh case of Tabula Rasa its repetativly doing missions and killing mobs to grind up levels.

In Everquest 2 its the same.

IN EvE tho its in making money as charecter development is automatic. you make money in a variety of ways tho so you CAN add some variety in this but only if you are experienced at it i guess.

    I played everyone but EVE,

Don't play EQ2, It's a good game and its challenging, If you play the trial, you will be fooled buy a large community in the starting area, but your trial will end about when you leave the starting area, then It turns into a dead game on all servers. Most everyone playing is a higher level player and will not give you the time of day.  Joining a guild will not help, no one will help you much there eather. Around lv. 15 you will find that you have to do everything with at least one more person and friends are hard to come by. Its a good game gone VERY bad because of the community. No one new EVER stays you will find this out on your own if you buy the game.  The only exception to this is if you have MMO experience, tollerance for rude ppl. and a dynamic personality then they may have mercy and let you in a click.

TR may be a good choice, I played the beta for about 15 days, and it was fun, however most everything you have read is true.  Zone 1 is like zone 2 and 3. TR has a lot of action but the action is the same. I think TR just needs more time.

EVE I'm not sure. Most MMOs play using the same format ( If you learn one you can catch on to all of them ) however EVE is to be an exception and like no other, so think about this before you deside.

I would recommend WOW  for your first MMO, Its a solid game, runs on most computers. and has millions enyoying it. It is a very deep game and don't let anyone tell you different. The game has so many fan sites you can use as a tool or hints, more than anyother game. You start off with only a few abilities and you gane more very quickly, Most every class is played completetly different and all are balanced for people vs.people play ( I would recommend playing on a pvp server righ from the start, so that means that you can get attacked at any given time by the other side.)

I'll tell you where the negativity comes from with WOW.........Most everyone that post on message forums are hard core players and they had ALL burned them selfs out on this game to the point that they hate it. but there are still millions more that love it. I got to that point after a year of WOW myself however I will never bash WOW.

  • delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

Just a suggestion, if you decide on WOW for your first game.

BUY only the classic version, You don't need to buy the Burning Crusade expansion pack.

The Clasic Version comes with 6 starting races and goes to lv. 60.

Burning Crusades will just add 2 new starting races that you don't need, and also alows you to go from lv. 60 to 70 and it will take you 6 months to get to that point.

The Clasic is only $19.99 with first month free, after that it's $15 a month, you will not use the content for Burning Crusade's for a long time and by then the price of it will drop because a third expansion pack is in the works now !!!

All three have trials so try them all.

    WOW is easy/colourful/and has elves/orcs,

    TR is just a blast(literally),

EVE is very deep and can be hard to learn, i started playing EVE when it came out in 2003 and still learning/exploring, it has way over 2000 star systems, the deeper you go into space the harder the mobs/players are, it's very PVP heavy, corp battles are awesome, there is no lvl limit.

It's skill based and trained in real time, the 2 week trial is not long enough.

    Try them all.

There's a good chance you will not like EvE. It's a good game, but it's not for everyone.

Always try out the trial before you buy.

I have no idea why you didn't do this.

Given the history of cheating, lying and event rigging by the EVE devs along with their attempts to coverup once found out, I would advise against EVE

    We have a winner!

Trials exist to give you a feel for the game, and EVE's is 14 days for a reason. I'd be willing to bet that at least half of the people that try EVE don't continue with it.

welcome to eve online, that sheer face you see before you is what is laughably called the learning "curve". the vast majority of people who start playing eve give up very quickly, hopefully you will be one of the few who stick it out and have fun.

good luck on EVE,since your new to MMO's it may be quite a unique experience fopr ya ,but really i wouldn't have suggested any of the 3 for you.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I also played Elite, Frontier-Elite 2 and EVE.

EVE is Elite 4. It is a good choice.

EQ2 is completely different, and Tabula Rasa is also (but different) more Character-moving-like.

So while the 18-24y old bullsh-crowd is waiting for AoC, it is playing EVE :/

Events were most definitely rigged.  Check out the EVE OOC roleplayer forums.   All the major RP groups know the events were rigged and that the official CCP line is just more coverup.

    Go with EQ2.

The other games try to be more than mmos and fail.

Eve - More like an RTS. You have to wait real-time for skills. It'll be 6 months before you're even competent, ignoring the fact that youre broke.

TR - Aweful boring feel. You hold the button down and point in the rough direction of the mob? No skill to it at all.

Anyway - youve always got your free trials if you dont want to believe me.

If you want a deep game which does not baby you and gives your freedom to do as you like then go with EVE. If you want a cookie cutter leveling game on rails then go with EQ2, WoW and TR. All in that order.
