So, ive been staring at this game since it came out. And i havent yet given it a try. Well im gonna give it a try right now.  but i have a couple questions...

1. What should i expect when i log in?..

2. Will i be the only one in the newbie area?..

3.Will i be able to upgrade from Trial to Regular if i do stay with the game?..

    1. Expect to pick the server you want to play on and create your character by picking your race/class and starting abilities/skills. You may want to read up on some builds that interest you, I looked at a few on Ten Ton Hammer before deciding on mine.  http://ddo.tentonhammer.com/

    2. Nope, you won't be alone at all. You'll go through a short starter area and then you'll end up in the Harbor where there will be plenty of people to group up with for quests. You'll want to use the LFG tool to find groups to join, or create one yourself for the quests you want to do. Most of the quests in the Harbor you can do solo but you'll have more fun and get more XP/favor by doing them in a group on the highest difficulty (elite).

    3. Yep you can upgrade your trial membership and keep your characters if you buy the retail box. I'd recommend Amazon.com since it was $8 last time I checked. When you enter the retail key make sure you choose the option to upgrade your trial account and keep your characters. Note that if you do the digital purchase you won't get your key immediately, it could take a week or so from what I've read on the forums. Best off buying a retail box.

    Just an FYI-

I signed up three days ago using the digital purchase and received my key immediately on the order confirmation page, and also in a emailed receipt of the transaction.

Also here is the link to the high res client (thanks "Unicorns_Pwn" for the link) that doesnt seem to be listed on the DDO website.

    download.turbine.com/ddo/DDO-US-M5.0-Downloader-HighRes.exe

Is there an extreme difference from HighRes and the normal one?

Maybe not extreme, but  enough that the differences between the two are obvious.  The details of the armor, weapons and dungeons are cleaner.

Even on regular res, you can see a major difference in graphics between Low and High. The water shimmers, you can see in depth detail on armor/landscapes/etc..., theres more of a "sunny" glow when it's light out, and so forth. I haven't done the high res, but I imagine it would be great.
