I have bought FFXI and had it for about 2 months. I really love the game but for me it's too party-centric. It takes like 3 days to get a good party, other's are just mindless and slow. It would be great if there's soloing but it's only for the first 10 lvl's. I think the PvP in FFXI is called Ballista but I believe it's best to wait till lvl.27+(because the first is capped at 30). I'm very into FPS's and this is my first MMO, so you should wait until you get other opinions.
People complaining about not being able to find parties just need to create static parties.Static party is a group of people who all play at the same time and agree to only level up a certain job with each other. Eventually get used to each other and you learn how to play the game very well.My static party consists of paladin, dark knight, Monk, bard, white mage and dark mage.An awesome group of people we rarely ever struggle gaining experience.
The game itself has it's flaws.. IE finding parties if you don't have a static. But if you're worried about that then select one of the more needed jobs, IE Bard, White mage, dark mage, red mage, ranger or paladin. You will never have trouble finding parties with those jobs.
The game is virtually BUG free. It had been running for nearly a year in Japan before it's release in North American allowing a 100% perfect release. The game also has a dedicated staff of employees always adding more and more content. IE new equipment and swords are being put in often. More specialized battles are added frequently. They also like to do special occasion events.. like hanging christmas lights and decorations around the 4 cities during x-mas.. Easter egg hunt.. for special items during easter.. 4th of july is coming up in a couple days.
FFXI as a previous poster stated.. is not perfect. But from experience having played 8 mmorpg's already.. ffxi is one of the best so far.
Well if u love soloing, just get a melee job and sub it with a healer job. Or after your 30 (which is easier then it seems) just get the Bst job and your the king of soloing!
I really enjoy it, but i do wish soloing was a bigger part of it. I miss Having Quadding Hill Giants and wyrvens....
But it really is a good game, but i don't think you need our opinions.. just do a search and read the millions upon millions of Love and Flame posts.

I've had this game for about 3 months now... I've tried other MMORPGs SWG, Planetside, Darkages, and I just got City of Hero's. I have to say this is the best out of all of them. I've been hooked since day one. If you can stand the gil grind then everything else will be easy. I really have no prob finding partys and everyone I play with have been cool. Anyways if you do get this game be sure to get on Cerberus and give Ryuiichi a tell I'll help ya out! ^^
