Best community in any MMORPG?

shinjoraishinjorai Member UncommonPosts: 32

A few weeks ago i did a poll about the communities in various MMORPGs it was for the worst community in any game. Big surprise but wow won by a landslide lol. Anyways i got to thinking about how theres always such negativity in a lot of the things people discuss on here. Or at least how it seems from my point of view, so i figured one good turn deserves another so without further ado heres my poll for the best community in any MMORPG. As always theres no way to have this poll list every single game so i picked some of the bigger names to add as choices. If you feel a game has a great community tell us why and give examples maybe of some experiences you've had and why it'll hold a place in your heart as best community overall. By all means if its not on the list , add it anyways via your post and still tell us about it.

I have to give it to EVE for one reason: those that know do, those that understand teach. What I mean by quoting Aristotle is that the players that understand the overall approach to things in Eve Online are not shy to be helpful, even by grouping with you if you're nice enough and in the same system. All in all, half of Eve's fun is the social aspect to it, even though CCP doesn't put much in name of tools for it (hopefully with the avatar add-on that will change).

EVE Online got my vote. Awesome community really helps you out whenever you need help, which is quite often in the beginning.

I voted for Eve because when I played it I got a lot of help at the beginning and later to.

Its quite complicated game so you need all the help u can get. Its quite easy to get into

    corps.

Everyone will generally vote for their favorite/current game.

Truthfully, there is no magic game with a better community than any other game.

People like to point out how terrible the WoW community is as often as possible. It's no better or worse than Vanguard, Eve, EQ2, or any other MMO on the market. There are just more people there, so your likelihood of running into an idiot is higher.

I've met young, middle-aged, and older gamers from every walk of life in WoW. From high school students, to a 50-something doctor and all points in between. I've played every major MMO out there, if only for a month, and I've had the same experience in every one. The only difference is how far spread out people are from each other.

If I had to nominate a particular MMO, though, I'd say WWII Online, as there are so few people playing it, they're usually pretty excited to see a new player, so I can't say I've run into any asses there. Of course, I really didn't run into much of anyone at all, but still.

You should've included WoW in that Poll. I bet it wouldn't have been last place, even though it won the worst community poll ^_^

I voted for EQ2 because in all the time I played that game I can't recall ever having a serious run-in with any other players.

I would have voted for Vanguard but it wasn't on that list.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

My vote goes to EVE, people are so helpful. Some pilots will even do an hours trip out of their way to help out plaers strugling with a mission.

In second place would come LOTRO as Iall you need to do is walk upto a player and say you need a hand and they offer to fellowship with you for a while this normally becomes a fellowship that lasts until you log out where you help each other with quests.

Actually, the highest possibility of running into an idiot would be in eve, as 200k players are on that server.
Your argument is flawed, as you will most likely only meet the people on your shard, and that number is MUCH lower than in eve.

Lord of the rings online got my vote, I do not believe that the argument that " WoW has more people so it just seems worse" holds any water. In any case coming to MMORPG.com and hoping to find WoW loyalty is like hoping to find a "Clinton in 08" sign anywhere in the Fox News studios.

why are people saying EVE. i had nothign but bad experiences with that game. The corp chats for newbs is filled with people talkign about masterbating and stuff.

If its just your own corp chat thats good, that shouldn't count... because my Runescape clans forums and stuff is very freindly (6 years and going).... that doesn't make the RUNESCAPE community good though...

and considering the amount of player/mod abuse you would think Eve got 0 votes.

You forgot to put World of Warcraft on your list.

People say the WoW community is a bunch of kids and roflcoptor bbq blah blah blah blah

but every guild I was in was made up of mostly 18+ people, my friends in the game were all either college students or post college working men/women

i never paid attention to general chat, i'd turn it off unless I had a question about something. I never got a snappy or childish answer for asking an honest question either.

i never played too much on a PvP server so i never experience the immaturity and stupidity of greifing and low-level ganking.

all in all, in almost 3 years of playing WoW I only had to put two people on my ignore list. One was a druid who thought he could out tank me (lol) and after i kicked him from the group for trying to steal aggro and tank he kept harassing me, so he got ignored. The other was the old guildmate of a friend of someone etc. etc. who kept bugging me asking me to tank for their new guild, I tried talking to him but he just wasn't catching the clue, so I had to /ignore player

so in about 3 years, two or three incidents of a "bad community" and a whole lot of great memories and people i had the pleasure of adventuring with.

With a community as large as the one WoW has, if you don't find people you like to play with, you either aren't looking in the right places or simply don't have a good personality yourself :)

You obviously got a bad experience assuming you really have tried out EvE of course.

I voted for EvE as its community is very good. I still remember when i was a noob and an entire corp came over to guide me to there space. Which was a great help as back then the most the tutorial taught you about navigating space was that you traveled Via Stargates.

For the most part I've encountered good communities with a few exceptions (you know the usuall suspects). While most were good these 5 were outstanding.

    1) CoX

    2) EQ1

    3) DAOC

    4) Ryzom

    5) LOTRO

To be honest WW2 Online also known as Battleground Europe has the best and most mature community I have seen in any game. There is a few others that come close but to me that is the best I do not play the game no more but for some reason I am always drawn back because of the players there.

I have to second the WW2Online Battleground Europe community as well. However I am referring more to the "Off Topic"  and "Barracks" communities in the forums.  I have greatly enjoyed many of the discussions going on. There are people who pay the monthly game sub that don't even play the game or have it installed simply to be able to post and read their forums.  It is truly one of the most mature and entertaining communities I have ever come across.
