I tried free trial you get when you resubbed.
It's still bugged, I still chunk and lag on every zone, regardless of settings. I still crash. Still falling under the world and getting stuck in same god damn places I petitioned 6 months ago lol .
It's still an empty game where mobs are spread out like tennis balls on a court. No reason they're there, places with no mobs to be found for miles, and other places they're just spread out randomly. I hate that.
Still no social center or community, nothing.
I seriously tried this because people said it changed and was much better. The thing is..it's not. lol=/. Well it's my opinion, w/e.

I'm guessing the name canygirl refers to whats in ur nostrils????? 0.o 0.o 0.o 0.o Did you turn ur monitor why u were playing??? lmao, but seriously after all the builds and updates ur telling people its the same??? sheeeesh!
Yes, after about 20 hours of playing I couldn't find 1 thing that was different from 6 months ago, not one thing.
I did find it to be the same boring grind, unchallenging gameplay as before. And I also remembered all the chunking and lagging and lack of community and empty world.
I'm not listening to people saying "it's so much better now." It's just the same game as it was before.
VG has made some progress, so its not all the same.
But its true, the pace of rework is VERY slow compared to what should be reworked and extended. I guess for good or ill VG will never be much more than today, alas. Its bitter, because it could be so much more, but that would need to break with many things the noisy fanguards are religiously against, and SOE wont risk it. End of the story. They will likely keep this minimal, strenched over time change as they did with SWG in the last 12 months. Nice things new here and there but nothing to really turn the tide. After NGE they just lack the courage to dare the big rework VG would need.

I was tempted back to VG after seeing mention of the Holiday free time on this very website... oh dear.
After dusting off the DVD's and installing and patching .. (I actually just set the patcher going and went to bed it was taking so long... ) I finally got in some play time today.
I quit at lvl 49 as a Rogue so I spent some time looking at my skills and macros and poisons etc to see what had changed... one or two skills had been fixed that got my hopes up (Eviscerate and Escape both now work as intended for example). I recalled to Khal and took a look around, with a purely default install things were pretty choppy despite the improvements Id read of in the patch notes. I plan on tweaking and a custom UI install to see how I can get things running.
I decided to take my sloop for a spin (PoTBS beta withdrawal) and cruised around the harbour and out to sea. I must have sailed through a chunk line as I got some hard drive churn.. then some more.. then a crash to character select. Logging back in I had no clothing/armour.. no bags.. nothing... no corpse or tombstone. After a strong sense of deja vu had passed I relayed my findings to Qalia chat. Someone remarked that the same old bugs are still there and he was back for a free re-look also. We were set upon by a couple of vanbois before I decided to see what others felt here on the forums.
I checked thru my friends list and guild list and noticed quite a few people have taken advantage of the free play time, what a shame the game seems to have made virtually no headway. Many clearly felt the same as mid-to-late December was the average last seen dates for many that had returned
I'm prepared to try another session of play to see if my hour online was just terrible bad luck, also I need to justify the bandwidth I used to patch this damn thing, but I won't be holding my breath.
So you think that having one mob every 15 feet throughout the whole gameworld much more logical? In Vanguard you have huge ancient bones in a desert and skeletons wandering around, then you have free sand dunes with no mobs at all, then you have a water with trees around and a couple of bandits standing with a few tents. That's not logical?! Goddamn, I must be from another planet then.
REALITY CHECK
I came back with the free trial invite, but I too found performance hadn't improved. Still lag fests at chunk boundaries and other assorted bugs which drove me away before.
I remembered my ini tweeks after a while but still found it to preform really poorly. Very little progress (if any) has been made on the bugs. I don't see this game ever reaching a point where I'll be tempted to subscribe again.
Anther game which had a LOT of potential yet never actually got there.

I was encountering all the possible bugs, ctd's, bsods ... etc 9 months ago when I first tried this game. Remember I have Windows Vista 64xbit, 8800gtx and Creative X-fatal1ty gamer. Don't think there can be a worse and less stable combination of hardware for VG. And I had troubles at the beginning. was getting CTD's every 30 minutes, complete system freezes every 2-3 hours, BSODs once a day, I was falling throught ground and couldn't reach my tombstone, I was getting disconnected from groups when got too far, I wasnt able to summon other players because if i did I ended up crashing to desktop. I couldn't sail my boat while chunking, ... There are no bugs I wouldn't encounter by myself.
No matter how bugged it was, I still kept playing, because there is NO other game with similiar open beatifully crafter worlds and so well designed classes.
Now after 9 months. I never recieve any CTD, I never got BSOD, I never get disconnected from groups, I can sail my boat and chunk. I don't fall throught ground anymore either. I ocasionally get complete system locks up but that's probably a different issue, because it's happening also in other high demanding games.
Noone that actually played the game 9 months ago, and now can say there are no improvements. There are tons of them and the performance is no longer an issue. SoE gave a free month to all old players, and that's a pretty good proof that they think the game is stable now. Otherwise they wouldn't be giving this access.
REALITY CHECK
B: I don't think you understand the concept of proof... "proof that they think".... Well for one thing nothing can prove what they think, even if they SAY that is what they think that doesn't prove thats what they REALLY think, only that is what they want you to think.
"Otherwise they wouldn't be giving this access." Actually they will give a million people access to the same old crap in the hopes that just a handful will stay, even one new sub is a new revenue stream, and since the servers are already up and in no way strained they loose nothing... there are a million "otherwise"s, you just choose not to see them.

The game runs the same as it did before for me and after awhile of being back I must say its not that much better . say what you will about the game but players will eather love or hate this game and I for 1 wont spend $ on it. It no where what the game was Hyped to be they couldnt even bring half of what it was said to have been Brad lied to every one even his owen team .
Actually I was in beta and have checked in to see if my predictions came true every time a got a few free weeks here and there... so looks like you fail, again.
I guess it feeds your ego somehow when you say people "you fail again", shame you're the only one thinking that.
Ok you were in beta... and then got a free week a few months after. So you never bought the actual game, so most of the free weekends you didn't get because only owners of full copy got them. Actually I don't remember any free weekend that would be for non-owners.
So I suppose you played beta... 12 months ago, ... yet you still come here, saying lies about things you didn't even try, calling everyone that enjoy the game (and actually play the game) fanatic and vanboy. SILLY SILLY SILLY. Lad if you don't have anything intelligent to add in this discussion please stay in your's game forums or at least in a game's forum that you actually played.
REALITY CHECK
The game is not in the same shape as 9 months ago mate. They improved many things, just dont say its the same game after 20 hours of playing cause u havent seen anything in a world where travelling is very time consuming due to the size of it. havent u noticed the dynamic weather? the balancing of classes? the improvement on crafting? the new quests? the faction system? There are lots of improvements.
Have u played with the Video Options? Character occlusion worked great for me in terms of performance and i have not modified the vgclient.ini as i needed to do 6 months earlier, and im getting 80-100 fps playing normally and between 20 and 40 in crowded cities.
Definitely game is not in the same shape as it was. Maybe the game does not suit you but i can assure you that the game is in better shape.
EDIT:Typos.
Dont listen to them Candygirl. Some people have brainwashed themselves to believe this game is good. But the fact is that this game is utter crap, from beginning to the end.
Actually some poeple have brainwashed themselves to believe this game is utter crap. Don't listen to them. And TRY IT BY YOURSELF.
I wonder if people realize how rediculous they sound on these forums? You can't log into a game a large as VG for an hour or two or even a day or two and then make a broad comment about how the game is exactly the same as it was months ago. The people who come here to complain about it after not having played since beta really show their immaturity, ignorance, and lack of "a life."
Yes, there are still bugs. HOWEVER, the vast majority of game breaking bugs are now gone. The bugs that remain are of the annoying variety that are usually have work arounds or are fixed by re-logging. Is that good? Hell no! Is that as bad as it was at release? Not even close.
Yes, there are still performance issues. Chunking still happens, and probably always will. Lag still happens, and probably always will. HOWEVER, the game is playable today. When I left a couple months after release, it simply was simply unplayable for me. Today, the game is fairly smooth for the most part with random laggy occurances (and some not so random like going into a new place or a city that's populated or unpopulated). This is the one area that SOE has really made a lot of progress. The performance has improved, and anyone saying it hasn't just doesn't remember what it was like. Is it up to par with 99% of all the other MMOs out there now? Hell no. Is it playable? Yes.
VG is not for everyone. Is is improving, but fixing the game has turned into a slow process. You either like it or you don't. If you don't, try to be mature enough to move on. If you have to post that you don't like it, try posting intelligently instead of calling it a "stinking pile of shit" or whatever.
Actually some poeple have brainwashed themselves to believe this game is utter crap. Don't listen to them. And TRY IT BY YOURSELF.
I have tried it. 3 times since release have been back to give it a chance. Was it worth it? Not yet. Maybe in a year, maybe in 2. However you are all waiting and paying for a dream.
Im not spending money on dreaming, I do that every night (almost).
I have to say, the negative posters here do not seem to be doing so out of any sort of vendetta, its just their opinion about how far the game has progressed (or not) from their experience.
I know some people are having no problems, that was always the case with VG, sometimes people with very similar rigs had a completely different experience and no one ever figured out quite why. In some cases it was an odd hardware incompatibility (like soundcards) and in other cases it was just people have different tolerance levels.
I'm sure the game has improved, but for some folks, not enough to make it worth their while.
Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!
I reluctantly bought the game after release, had friends in Beta, and after 2 weeks shot my disc with my shotgun, pull. A friend sent me a 10-day almost a month ago so I tried it again.
Became much more playable for me, still the chunking but meh. I will occasionally come across some weird bug and get dropped but overall it is playable and fun.
Though it is not yet the game I hope it will become it is entertaining.
You will see the rabid vanbois defending the game but you will also see the bitter ex-girlfriend/boyfriend like folks that will go too every thread and attack it. Gotta wonder about them both and thank the gods there are games like EvE where you can just hunt them down and watch them assplode.
I play the game cas' I really enjoy it and for no other reason.
Why you would think otherwise just goes along with your trollitude.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I just had to respond here , because trying VG for the 2nd time since launch and yes it has improved getting 80-100 FPS outdoors getting 40-50 in citiies depending the city , crossing a chunk is so much smoother , am not saying the game is perfect but it's not as bad as some people say it is .
even the classes are nicer i tried the disciple and with the new stances we get , it's so much fun playing it now .
Alot of the players enjoy enjoy the crafting in the game , just join the craft channel it's spamming most of the time of day . this is the feel i got playing for 1 month now .
Am ganna give soe a chance and see what they do with this one .

I took advantage of the free return ticket to Telon, but I played for less time than I patched - way too little time to get any really fair impression of the game's improvements, but (sadly) sufficient time to experience the major issues that caused me to quit all those months ago. I'm pleased that the game is still running and that my old guildmates are still enjoying it, but I wont be going back again.
I bought the game on release and had been reading about it for several weeks before the release... all the promises and the microsoft / sony thing... it all should have turned on some red flashing lights somewhere...
I played the game heavily at release, and learned that a lot of the endgame wasnt in place, and my equipment changed appearence and stats very, very often. I fell through the world, some places caused instant CTD, I got groupdisconnect... cant remember it all.... but it had a looooot of problems, so I didnt subscribe.
When I bought the game I was given a guest key, so I tried it back in november again, because I had been reading about all the good things in the patches. But to my disappointment, in my opinion, very little had changed... the remaining ppl had just learned to live with the bugs.
... my last SOE experience...
