This game, at its root, is a single player game. There is no free trial for it. The mutliplayer/ MMO aspect of it is free to play when you own the game. If you like the multiplayer piece you can then subscribe to the additional content. I would go to thier website and check it out. There is info there on what you get when you sub.
IMHO the sub is not worth it right now. It may be in the future.
Despite what some players may say, I found the demo to be pretty much spot-on for what the game can offer you (in terms of content, look, feel, and gameplay. Albeit the demo is somewhat short (just a few levels into the first station, you will grasp the game's basic backdrop and premise: get to the next station via a linear route you are forced to take in order to progress, once at the station you pickup quests and as you complete quests other zones at that station open up, ultimately when you complete enough quests with said station you are told to move on to the next. Rinse and repeat until you beat the game, then do it all over in a more difficult setting via harder skill levels, Nightmare, Hardcore, etc.
IMO the game is very shallow but some do find it entertaining. Goodluck!

My opinion is I disagree on the "demo". It gives you a marignal taste for the game and setting but is one of the weakest demos I have seen. I have a few characters running and it is a fun, hack and slash, action RPG as it is designed to be (Diablo with a sci-fi spin on it) . The demo really did not give me a taste of some of the frantic combats that take place at a little higher level.
A bit to your point about the game itself though. It is my "heck, I got 20 minutes" game and not something I sit down to dive into with any depth or seriousness. I never see myself subscribing either.
the demo is no where close to what the game is actually like. While yes..the quests are linear (but this was made to be an online shooter/mmo not a MMORPG....theres a WORLD of difference). But later on, especially in elite mode, things get nuts, especially in the large wide open boards, where there is nothing but mass chaos.
Remember its an online shooter/fps/mmo....NOT an MMORPG

While the game does open out more from the demo than I was expecting, there are two things you can definitely get from it:
1. Does the game look decent and run at a good frame rate on your PC
2. Do you like the basic gameplay mechanics
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
