Why would you call yourself that?  You're a voting American.  You're a worshiping Christian.  Your religion and your politics are two different things.  Unless of course you'd like to use the government to push your religious views on people.  That's what people are doing right now.
You cannot use the government to push your religious views on someone and still say you live in a free country.  Think about that.  So why would you even consider your religion when voting?  What's more important is to consider whether or not you think people should be allowed to live their own lives free from the influence of government.
If you want to convince someone to live a certain way, then go out in the streets and preach to them.  But don't go using my tax dollars to force what you consider right or wrong on myself or other people.

The question here was posted to "Evangelicals" as in those who vote and are Christian as I understand it.  This is the reason why used this phrase.  Unfortunately political issues are also social issues.  Christian issues often are social issues.  There is a connection in many regards.  Personally, I'd prefer it if politics did not involve social issues, but the reality is it is.  I cannot neglect my responsibility as a Christian and 'put it aside' merely for the sake of patriotism.  I'm glad I'm an American, but the One I serve is not the president.

I did not say 'push my religious views'.  Are you saying you're pushing your views by voting?  If so, all of us are pushing our views no matter what we believe.  I'd always considered voting as representing yourself as an individual to the people who are actually implimenting laws and the course of the country.

Regarding street preaching, I don't find it an effective way of reaching people nor do I take my orders from other people.  If people do not want to know my views, they shouldn't ask (as the original poster did).  If the government doesn't want to know where I stand on issues, they should not ask (which is what voting is).  If someone asks, I will answer.

This is a good point.  This wouldn't be an election where a Christian votes because one candidtate is Christian while the other is not.  I would hope as well though should there be two candidates of different religious affliation that this would not be a reason for voting for one or the other.  A lot of people call themselves all kinds of things.  In politics, it's what you do for the country that makes the difference.
