 I miss  UO community

Greetings all,

As you can see , i was a UO player once ! Spent 4 beautiful years in a shard called EUROPA. I Left UO because wanted to try something new. L2 was my next game, almost 3yrs..and since 2yrs im pratically gameless , havent found anything yet .  Well i am not posting to tell you guys about what do i think of many RPG's that i have tried so far after UltimaOnLine ! Nah ,Nah, just posting  to let you know about my recent experience in UO.

About 10 days ago, activated one UO account out of 3 accounts and went back to UO. First impression from the game was  2D graphics "which was very annoying"!. Beleive it or not  despite it all ,activated my other 2 accounts as well  .  Anyways , the game is still full of houses in main areas and towns but not many players in EUROPA. Bumped into few at yew gate Felucca ;) , ofcourse i was shot dead by gate LOL ! Spent a week in UO , trying to refresh my sweet past memories.  Did some mining, craft, set 2 houses at moonglow, britain with vendors. Got myself christmas tree deeds, snow man , decorated both houses, did some dungeon hunting , tamed few pets , visited yew again, got killed again LOL! And finaly , after spending few days in UO decided to cancel accounts. TBH it isnt like before, the magic is there, but  MOST are gone.

What a pity; The 1st RPG on line called UO that  gave birth to so many other modern 3D  RPG's ,is still there with old 2d options.  Imagine what if we could play UO with better real 3D graphics! Why not, we could , but those who could make that dream come true, failed to take  risks !

If ever they improve UO, i will surly go back for good. However i don't regret my  recent short visit to UO, loved and enjoyed every minute of it.

Happy New Year all

  • Kingdom reborn is 2d graphics? I thought it looked pretty good as a real option for a 3d game. Now if you were looking for first person or over the shoulder I feel ya. I haven't been back to UO in over 5 years, and I am always tempted just to see.

None the less I always read stuff that squelches the desire just due to it being a completely item based game now which kinda sucks in my opinion. Owell, Darkfall is coming shortly I hope.

People played UO because of the sandbox feeling.  As many times as i've heard "update graphics" you could do that but noone would still play it.  The majority of the players like the 2d and stick with it and I dont think you'll change anyones mind with that.  If a game was actualy that good, graphics wouldn't matter a bit.  I've played WOW, good graphics but borring.  Played LOTRO Great graphics, but boring.  No matter how you look at it, a game wont keep you playing unless its interesting.  Which also leads to if its Fun and interesting to play, you wouldn't care about graphics!

Warhammer online will be out for you sooner or later.  Theres your 3d graphics for ya.

Yes, many left, but some are still there.

You can try the new KR client for graphics.

Graphics have never been important to me.  The sandbox feeling and the overall risky play factor was enough to keep me hooked for many years.  I suppose now I am so use to nice graphics that it is difficult to go back to the poor graphics seen in UO today.  However, I firmly believe their is a HUGE market for an UO 2 or some new version that is 3d with the old basic concepts.  This of course could not be just revamped or batched; it would have to be a totally new game for me to pay any cash.

UO in the 90's was amazing and I wouldn't be interested in MMORPGs if it wasn't for that game.  However, at this point I feel UO is more of a legacy than an actual game.

UO needs and has needed a UO sequel for years.

It has had 3 or so cancelled sequels which makes me think EA have no idea their game is dying and are willing to let the UO franchise die .

The best attempt i think would have been UO2 when lord british was still there. It actually had all the features of UO with real 3D and was a true sequel with few additions such as muskeeters .EA felt it would comrpimise them milking UO and canned it days before beta.

    Ultima died when Trammel appeared.

Its a shame the faction system never kicked off on the shards i played

UO is my favorite MMO of all time.

I believe if Garriot would have stayed and put through a sequel to UO, it would have been great. But he went and made some scfi-shooter multiplayer thing.

UO in the 3 person to me would be a wonderful thing

Aye, Ultima will be on the top of my MMORPG game list for a long time, i have never experienced a game that comes close to it.

Most games keep me for 6 months max, Ultima kept me entertained for 3 years, i have good memories of Ultima, i will play it again one day.

I seriously doubt my Keep is still standing lol, i bet idocers had a field day.

With regards to Tabula Rasa, Richards name was enough to get me intrested, alas dissapointment followed

People talk about how it would be better with Richard Garriot and all, but wasnt he there when they released the "Renaissance" expansion? ( aka Trammel ).

And Tabula Rasa seems like a big disapointment ( never tried, never will ).

Like I said before in many other threads, the only game that stayed true to it's ideals is EvE Online. ( Only talking about games that added something more to the genre then just PvE raids and instances )

all the others screwed up their basics :

Ultima Online : Renaissance ( Trammel ) and Age of Shadows ( l33t items )

Dark Age of Camelot : Trials of Atlantis / New Frontiers / Clustering, removing realm pride / Classic Servers

    SWG : CU and NGE

Ryzom : Actually they stayed true to the game, but had bad advertisement and management, which led to bankrupcy 2 times. I hope someone picks it up and make it work.

I bet there are more examples of how to screw it up.

There are not much examples of how to do it right, I only know 1 and that is EVE-Online, however, this does not mean that EVE is perfect, it isn't. I find the combat slow and the PvE lacking, and I don't like the fact that I can't catch up to the vets.

However, they sticked to their vision of the game.

    Greetz.
