I just finished reading this article that talks about how social norms are basically thrown out the window when it comes to people of the opposite sex interacting in MMO's. Of course social norms are not going to be the same since interaction is over the computer, but why do you guys think that it has gone to such an extreme that a lot of interaction is flat out disrespectful. The article talks about World of Warcraft specifically, but could also be applied to any other MMO or even online game for that matter. Here is the source:

Nothing new, i just say one word: Internet.
I think in most cases it's just a matter of immaturity. I would say that a very small amount of the players treat women with such disregard. I have been the victim of such behavior while playing females characters before but it's not like everyone i run into treats me like that

It's a dumb article, at least I cannot take it seriously. It doesn't seem like an awful situation.
For the record - I don't have the proper parts to have babies.

Maybe they should look into games with more mature playerbases?
I think everyone will agree that certain games attract cetain players more than others. Guildwars has a high population of very young players, WoW is in the middle, and games like UO and Eve are the games with the highest average age.
So one would suspect the non-existand community of gw being the one that has the most immature playerbase. Reality seems to prove that. (yes, i played it)
WoW is in the middle. I met mature players there, but not too many.
Eve and UO..immature players are/were a rare occasion.
Interestingly, you get quite some girls in Gw, a bit less of them in Wow, and very few in Eve or UO, where they are generally treated with respect..

WE all game male or female we all do it for different reasons but the bottom line is fun can we put this crappy topic to rest stop the crusade to find out why women enjoy gaming and just all be gamers regardless of sex??

I was imitating a stereotypical product of WoW. I myself do not play the game, I do however know people that live by it. By this I mean refer to it for jokes, human guidelines, and table conversation. I am not over exaggerating in the slightest, people are completely engulfed by this game that it tracks back to what's left of their personal life. It's only human nature to get a relief out of being able to look at your girlfriend and say "fortunately we're not like that". Much like the way you would stare at a junkie trying to get warm by covering himself with newspaper.. getting ready to battle another chili night.
If you describe this entry as "informative", you obviously don't play populated MMORPG's.. in which case, I don't see your logic reading such articles and browsing forums dedicated to them?

It never fails to amaze me how many of these articles like this one there are. While it is respectful to a sense the author acts as if its some new phenomon that girls play games, especially MMOs. Most of the people I played Everquest 1 with back in its heydays were all real females just like me. Its nothing new...its time for the press to stop wasting their time on this particular social issue and look at some of the real issues.
This article is nothing new and ... it just gets tiring. Girls game...we don't always tell guys we're girls because its no one's business but our own. Some of us even get tired of the immature assumption of some younger and older players alike that are OMG a girl and proceed to act like jackasses so we play male toons and never use teamspeak unless its with trusted friends.
Another dead horse thread on OMG there are Females in MMO's post. We've been here since the start with muds people honestly. If it really is new information to you then ... dude what rock have you been living under?!
Can we lock this thread before it goes any further?

I realize that women that game tend to be on the crappy end of the stick when it comes to to people with your level maturity but not everyone treats women this way in fact it is quite the opposite but yet again another post comes up shining light on the fact that women game and i will repeat this again for your evident lack of reading comprehension skills . We all game regardless of sex stop trying to make women that game more than they are...they are gamers just like the rest of us considering them anything else is ignorant.
I refuse to read articles like this bullshit because that's all they, loads of f-ing bullshit. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you ask me, females should have gotten into gaming years ago. It would've made their gaming experience so much damn easier and painless for some. I couldn't give a shit if I login one day and find a million females playing. So bloody what? I couldn't give a crap if I play an FPS and get owned by a bloody female. So freaking what?
At least they're standing up for something that's been classed as a "male-only" activity for years. And I say good on them. I'm also getting sick of articles like these because it's OLD.
Search Ctrl+Alt+Del on Google. If you don't already know about it, maybe you'll bloody learn something or two about the female gamer. Or better yet, search Draw. Write. Play. on Google. That's a bloody webcomic focused on female gamers.
So suck on that anyone who thinks females can't play video games. This shit's old, piss off and let it go already.
