DAoC, IMHO has a much better warfare system. It is much more complete and has a ton more features. The downside of this is DAoC (I did a resub last winter) was really hurting in the population dept. Moreso then L2 (Teon) Although you can do so much more in DAoC as far as war goes, it just doesn't have enough players to really support the scope of play except on the classic server. Even that pop isn't all that great compared to years ago. The downside of DAoC combat overall is that its very slow paced IMHO. Also, PvP is isolated in specific battle areas where in L2 its pretty much open PvP with some restrictions. See their site for details.
L2, well to get involved in the seige wars, like DAoC you are going to need to get to the upper levels. Unlike DAoC, it has a much, much more difficult grind. Odds are you will never make it to a siege because you will give up before then. The upside is the battles are massive. It takes well over a hundred players to take a castle. The downside is sieges are scheduled so no surprise attacks. The scope of the warfare is also much more limited then DAoC. Only dwarves can use siege engines and they are very expensive to use so unless a guild absolutely needs them, they will not use them. The upside is that castle control really gives a guild some great benefits like town taxation and access to some of the high end crafting materials and the guild gets to keep / use the castle until they lose it to an attacker but only the most powerful guilds generally have control of them. Since guilds are very limited in size in L2, good luck getting into one. If you are under level 70, forget it.
All in all, DAoC has the better system but not the population to really experience it like it was meant to any longer and L2 is extremely limited when compared but has the players and the benefits to make it worth it IF you can survive the grind. If you are even a little skeptical about playing L2, don't. It requires a serious commitment to succeed. If you are on the fence, you will not make it. DAoC is much more forgiving in that respect.
Hope that helps a bit. Again, thats all IMHO.
Totally agree. ALthough i loved Daoc sieges like the above poster said. Population is a problem.
L2 however has a similar problem GL getting to lvl 60+ in order to be a part of the sieges. i played for over 2 years and it wasn't till later in that play time that i was able to be a "IMPORTANT" part of the sieges. 65 bishop. Not even to mention GEAR to match my lvl (jeez money was tough pickens) Anyway i enjoyed both equally. DAOC had more options for gameplay but man was L2 cool as all get out.
Anyway waiting to see what War does.
Thanks...I apppreciate the help.
I did enjoy both systems and they are both very different. The biggest difference is that you could only siege in L2 every other weekend. DAoC you could almost do every night and all night. L2 siege only lasted a few hours. DAoC was nice in a different way because you got to do it more often.
L2 sieges around the time of C2-C5 when the player base was at its peak was a lot of fun tbh. You would of had thousands of players on the field. Siege weapons came in the in many different forms and very cool but you had to play a dwarf to make them. In the high time of L2 it could of been the best open world pvp I have ever got to play. Just the size of the battles made it feel like such an important/grand scale event.

Pvp excursions happen a lot now thanks to the fortress system that was added. The clan that I just joined recently pvps almost every night and it really gives a lot of incentive to grind out the levels.
If you can manage to sludge through the levels, L2 can still offer a great pvp experience.
