Final fantasy XI worth goin back to?

Im thinking of tring it out again but was told the game was nearly deserted, any1 care to comment, I would like to try it out again for old times sake but if not many ppl play theres no point. If any1 that still plays have anything to say bout the population of the game and are the expansions any good?

    I just returned myself and I do think it's worth it. There's more then enough players on my server and even the low lvl areas are pretty packed. I took a break of a bit over two years myself and from what I can see the economy got a lot better and it actually is easier to find parties now.
