Interesting...... Which game was this? So I make sure to stay out the of the pvp aspect of it :-D
I really like naming things, A make tons of characters and name them in case I might use them eventually, most I don't though, or not much anyway.
Common female character names I use are, Lavie, Syryn, and Adele. Not sure what style they are. The male equilavents that I use are, Armasted, Razael, and Steppenwolf.
Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit
I used so many names....including Delovely, Valouhet, Hayat and Ceresquaina I detest anything that has -chick, -woman or -girl in it
I stay away from "cutesy" names. Basically 'cuz it would drive me nuts to be refered to that over and over... but I'm not a girly girl.
Most of the time I use some spin off verison of my real name. Unless I make a guy character, that would just be odd.
Screaming Butterfly I think is my fav of all my Characters.
Amy_jo, your sentiments match mine exactly. I wouldn't be caught dead with a "cutsey" or "girly" name, but I'm quite the tomboy. I typically make up fantasy-based names, depending on the setting. I rarely use names that are comprised of two words. I do like playing male characters sometimes also, and the same rule applies to these characters--I just think up something unique.
Cypt was actually a name I used for my FOmar in PSO, but I got sick of people thinking it was "crypt" and ended up ditching the character. Some female names I've used are Shallania, Kaisha, Kinoa, and Kitra. I've been tempted to use a variant of "Lilith" also since I like that name for some odd reason. Yeah, with the exception of Lilith, most of the female names I like are phonetically similar in some way or another.

Yeah I proudly claim to be a tomboy lol. But As far as two word names, I don't really have a choice. Guildwars, is where Screaming is. WoW has most of my one work spin offs. Like Amiee. of than that I Have Domica (warlock) and I stick to spinoffs of Medea. CoH/CoV characters also stick with 2 or 3 words.
My EQ, FFXI, Vanguard, and others are all mostly RP focused around the Race, class, and background story I want to try to create. So sometimes I tend to put to much thought into them maybe...

I tend to put quite a bit of thought into my characters from an RP standpoint also, and I always write up some type of background story to accompany the character. I really like it when a game gives me an opportunity to create a last name, but at least WoW has a mod that changes that.
Even if the name I end up creating is just a variation of something else I like the sound of, as long as it's somewhat unique then I'm satisfied.

But on a serious note, i dont think there's anything charming about a nickname...especialy since the majority of the female character players are actualy male...that said i just cant find nicknames charming. Though lol i think ive seen a female char with the name IloveCox (he prob. didnt mean Perry Cox from Scrubs..)lol or something similar, i got a good chuckle outta it.

Silica = Silicone and Nikill = Nyquil? lol
Anyways, I really can't think of a charming female nick. I know a gamer who uses Elvy and Stelra in MMORPGs though. (If that helps)
Nikill = -N = ikill ..smart =p
One of the females in my guild uses the names Scrumptious Delight and Sweet Evil.

I use ancient female names for almost all my characters, even for a number of my male characters if they've been out of use for a while.
