I wouldn't buy the game either way due to mechanics that have nothing to do with SOE. I don't think this game will make very much money, aside from it's bargain bin cut. Some games (generally not the best) find room in that niche to somehow be successful, but most just get lost in the bin.
I think that if FLS really fixed some of the mechanics pre-launch, then had a good launch, and continued to make significant improvements on a set timeline, then this game would prove me wrong in my assesment of PotBS. However, this is not happening from what I have seen, then they had dealing with SOE, which I feel is a step back from what I smaller company needs to do to find success in this market.
SOE have been "aboard" (<- see what I did there ) for many, many months and as I understand it, or I could be wrong, I lost interest in the beta a while back. SOE are responsible for the logistics ONLY. The Devs will be the ones continually developing on the game. I understand it's cool to bash SOE in every thread nowadays though...
i'll read more in this thread after i post this... so i may find what i'm asking.
i remember the potbs dev that posts here being quite vehement in his "soe is only packaging/shipping our game, NOTHING else". VERY vehement.
what changed?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

SoE is handling billing too. Nothing else has changed. Some people are so enraged with hate for SoE that they will poison any small developer that finds SoE a desirable choice to handle the distribution and subscription system so they can focus on development. It's pretty disturbing to see that almost 3 years later, people are still filled with so much bitterness and hate. One guy spent his chistmas eve, not with his family of loved ones, but bashing SoE over a patch made to SWG back in 2005. That's disturbing on a whole new level. I won't buy PoTBS not because SoE is handling distribution and subscriptions, but because it's a dull game imo. If SoE had a fun, involving game that I wanted to play, I would subscribe without a second thought. They have nothing that appeals to me so I don't give them money.
BTW I don't see any mention of the stellar job that SoE did Friday night when the login servers crashed.
That's right Sony's servers pulled a typical EQ thing and died on Friday night preventing people from either logging in or moving between zones. It actually took Joe from FLS contacting SoE to get the servers back online.
To add fuel to the fire, it wasn't just the server for PotBS but for ALL of SOE's games and NO ONE AT SONY SEEMED TO NOTICE FOR OVER AN HOUR!!!
Good luck FLS with the infrastructure that Sony provides, you will need it.
This game is there only to be a Sony Station Pass, its like the candy you eat after dinner.. No more thant that. Thats why its bad and no one cares about it.
The problem is that this game, because of the hype caused by the theme and the promise of something different, is nothing like we all imagined. Its instanced, its boring and badly made...
