It has an addictive gameplay. Monsters keep dropping item, and they die easily, so you just hack through them, and keep doing it.

I have only played it for a while, and don't enjoy it anymore. But I have played it, and thought it was kinda fun for a while... Just like I thought active sports was fun.

It's actually a good starter MMO, for children. I don't think it's aimed at the hardcore gamer crowd, even though I could imagine there is a few no-lifers out there that play the game 24/7, just like in any other game.

    What Orca said.

It is fast paced, pointless fun.

I play from time to time, actually had my account since they launched it outside asia, yet only lvl 27.

It is with games like it is with books or movies or any form of entertainment, sometimes you want Weekend at Bernies, sometimes you want The Ninth Gate. ( If you have not seen that movie then do so ).

From what I heas MS is a huge financial success, was an article not long ago in a Swedish newspaper on how kids wasted fairly large sums of money on their avatars, new hairstyles, clothes or whatever in their item mall, just to be "cool".

The weird thing with MS's item mall is that it only sells "fluff", like said hairtsyles, no uber items, and yet the kids trip over themself to spend the cash.

Its not a bad game if you see it for what it is, a tool to kill an hour now and then without much effort.

I too, never understood the appeal. But I do understand that people like different things. As such, if they want to play Maplestory..more power to them

I can understand why people play MapleStory

I used to be addicted to the game because all my friends played it but when they quited I quited too.

It has a great community but the problem is that there are too many hackers in the really crowded places. And another con is that a good amount of quests are not suited for the lvl you can do them.

well this is my opinion of MapleStory

nexon fucked this game up, once it was about having fun with friends, plaing and lvling up, doing quests,

now its all about spending about 200$ each 3 month, to have a more "preety" jeanshirt, and what about the wedding stuff? ppl these days r so ugly till they cant find a wife in real life so they have to marry in a game?

    ITS STUPID!

  • phatpeteyphatpetey Member Posts: 323

Oke,but the game has raids. But still the raids suck and they are only available from lvl 20-50 orso. So the other 150 levels you just have to grind. The thing that makes this game so popular in my opinion are the characters that are really great. And the fact that everything can play this game. You don't have to have an adducation before you can play this game. So I hope you know realise why so many people play this game. Just because it's fun, "free" and if you play it with friends it can be fun aswell!

I'm a hardcore gamer and I enjoyed Maplestory. It's a great little game (until taken too seriously)

I don't suffer from insanity, I revel in every second of it.

I thought this game was fine until "Trade System" came. Seriously wth? Trading real money for items. I just had to quit.

I used to be addicted to this game. I don't know why, maybe because I was really bored at the time, or probably because I joined it when I was new to MMO's.

Now I only get on occasionally, when I truly have nothing better to do, or when my friend wants me to get on.

Good starter MMO, good for people who dont have killer PCs.  I was enjoying myself with this game, but then moved on.  ive expanded my horizons, if you will.  I tried AoC and am now playing EQ2.

Honestly I have played over 30 MMOs including all the current and past 8 year "TOPS".  Maplestory had me more addicted than any of them. Eveonline = Joke. Spending days trying to Mine or Pvp in 0.0 constantly watching ur back just to collect isk just to spend another full day getting all the parts and ship together. Then it getting blown up within 10 seconds of a fleet battle starting. I ask my self why would anyone play that? Apparently im not hard core enough.. Lol...  WoW = Cookie Cutter nuff said.  Everquest 2 = Felt to restricted and the fact I had to upgrade my armor set every 2 levels INLESS it was pristine.. Yeah that was another "lol'd" moment.  EQ1 = Second best MMO ive played even though that was back in the day and it was the only thing around. SWG ( 1 Year after release ) = Best MMO I have ever played.  I cannot express how much enjoyment I got out of that game. Maplestory = 3rd dont know why maybe because it wasn't a WoW copy.

i used to play this game 2....

it was pretty fun to start with (before 3rd job) after 3rd job there came 2 many hackers...

there was some PQ's (party quests) where u should do some cool and fun stuff... the only problem is that u could glitch many things(smugg passes , get multi exp reward and so on)

i played with a friend and we raced to be the highest lvl... i didnt have so much time as he had to play so i began use those ''glitches'' and it actually worked

i knew all the glitches in the pq's and when i was doing it with my friend he just thought like ''what the fuck are we doing?'' (the worst thing is that you could glitch in a pq against time with oter players which ruined the whle thing')

Maple story badly needs an upgrade, it was great when it first launched as a nice introductory MMO for starters and some fun but now the competition is heating up, not to mention that the graphics are dated.

My money is on Hello Kitty Online to do what Maplestory did, it seems to be just that higher level for the non MMO'ers....

  • DerekHarumiDerekHarumi Member UncommonPosts: 37

MapleStory's not really a great game to play. I mean, where's the point of the game? The quests have nothing in them, you just recieve items and experience points. I don't like the way Wizet sets up the game. Getting engaged and married in MapleStory is saying "I don't got a girlfriend/boyfriend or a wife/husband in real life, so I'll just do it online." The game itself is a waste of time. Playing a game with no point is like sitting in a chair with a blank computer screen.

I'd give MapleStory a 8/10, because they need to improve some things. They need to give the game a point, tell us why to play it, not just because its fun. The game is that bad, its just that it has no point to it, and its a waste of lifetime.

I play the game occasionally, It's fun if you don't take it seriously, although it lacks some aspects of mmorpgs. It's a good game for mmo beginners since the class system is very simple. It's probably aimed for young players, casual players and newcomers to the world of mmo.

  • SufferoSuffero Member Posts: 2

Heres the thing, I have played atleast 35% Of mmorpgs, My fav mmorpgs would have to be

    WoW, EQ 2 & City Of Heroes/Villains

Diablo 3 Im going to tottaly love.

But yeah, Im bored out of my mind, And I dont know what games to play.. Since my favs dont work anymore.. And i cant find another game like them.

Maplestory is just a real simple game.. talk with your friends, play games, then you can go hack n slash and do some quest to pwn loads of uhh Mushrooms? lol anyway

WHATS THE POINT OF ANY GAME? I know it dosent have any raiding or pvp.. but still if a game does whats the point Woohoo i killed you. im the best... yeah... whats the point...

What is it going to do for you in the long run... all games are pointless... and are just for fun to kill some monsters, level up. and pwn some stuff. or do dungeons.

But I do know what you mean by Maplestory dosent even have pvp so you cant even work to being the strongest player.

I Find it maybe kind of fun to just hang out with your friends then pwn some mobs... kind of like

www.gaiaonline.com but with fighting.. but  do hear gaia is coming out with a fighting system. About the cash shop. they need money... so.. thats why they put it there.. But I think they should've done like a membership...

for like  maybe extra xp drops and stuff.. instead of mostly just looks and gettin married. it just depends if the game suits your style. i'm kind of getting a bit addicted to it.. but thats cause i have nothing better to do.. and yeah..  i proably repeated the same thing about 2931293129 times in this post... but yeah XD

I could never get into this game either.. I always thought it was horrible. My friend's encouraged me to play it and told me it was really fun, but I wasn't addicted. I thought it was a waste of time. Not trying to troll, I just don't like this game at all.

I don't like this game. The grind is absurd, maybe the worst among all MMORPGs. Not to mention that there is no storyline and no real point in playing. It is just fun to jump around the old-style 2-d scrolling game for the first hour of gameplay, then it gets boring and repeatitive.

For those asking what is the point of playing, I tell you, the point is having fun. But this game isn't fun at all, it provides an illusion that it'll be fun when you reach a high level or get expensive equipments, that's the trick of grinding games. This gives motivation for players to move foward until they realize that it's pointless. Also, there is a "grinding-casino" style, in which you may get rich all of the sudden by killing some monster that drops a super-rare item with 0,000001% of chances. So players have a bunch of motivation to hack and slash monsters for months.

Some people simply play the game to explore and find out what the classes/skills are like, and get bored right away, which is really common to happen.

Nexon obviously wants to suck as much money as possible (and we can't blame them for it), thus they implemented cash items to improve your performance and leveling speed in the game, which is no problem at all, since even with those, it takes you years to reach the maximum level.

And it's not surprising that so many people cheat in this game. Its security is very poorly designed, almost everything is client-sided, so a simple edit in one of your files and boom, you become invincible, with unlimited mana and anything you want. And of course people will abuse that, because no human being can tolerate such levels of grinding.

This game is no different from "Habbo Hotel" or any other online chatting game. It's simply a game in which you have to spend a bunch of money to look cool and hang out with your friends, and of course, laugh at those who are smart enough not to spend money on something like this.

And for a community game, it is going pretty bad, since I can tell that players are extremely immature, and the average age for them is somewhere around 12.

And after all, besides the 2d-scrolling design, this game brings nothing new to the MMORPG industry. It is just a copy of every single game, which I'm already sick of playing. Actually I would rather calling it a MMOG instead of a MMORPG, because of RPGs, they just inherited the most basic game mechanics.

If you're going to play this, play in a private server, at least people won't try to kill you mentally and suck all your money as often as in the official servers.

Orca actually, it was my starter mmo as a newbie! OK i need to get on topic. The point of MapleStory is a socializing theme. You chat with friends and have fun! Grinding isn't fun, we all know that. Friends are amazingly easy to make in khaini! Run Maple Radio while playing. I quit because i didn't enjoy it. My motto is don't play a game you don't like!

"i have a lvl 26 maplestory warrior lvl 9 asda story archer and a adventure quest mage lvl 15 and my xfire is my bro's"

  • AjFarAjFar Member Posts: 5

Haha!! I just learned something like 5 seconds ago. Most people who are in love with there game don't care what you people say, and you can't blame them. Sure I do care what you guys think personally. But in the end I love MapleStory because of what it's truly made for. Which is chatting and exploring together.

I'm almost positive all my friends will quit but I will endure because i just love playing and this game is right for me.

    Now my opinion on MapleStory...

To me MapleStory has very good security compared to other games. No! You can't edit and get w/e you want, that's a lie. You can't get infinite anything. It's probably happened before, but those mistakes are fixed and are further prevented in the future. It uses GameGuard, which is really a waste of space for the computer but it's really good for preventing hacks or anything that should be prevented.

My initiative to play an online game is not for the graphics. I have invested 25$ into my character to make him look cooler with a card i bought at Target. Now you don't have to do this, but MS is simple and wonderful. There is a hell of a lot of bad people and just as many good ones.

One thing I've noticed in LIFE that applies to so many things is... the more good things there are to something, the more bad things there will be, and people only notice the bad things for the majority and don't even realize it. When and if they realize it, there insight changes drastically. For online games usually the main stimulation that gives intiative to play is sight. Because other sense that are used but don't apply in a pleasurable or drastic way.

I don't play to Grind, altho i do and i love it.

I love to meet all the people, and watch the game grow. People come and leave, and grow apart, but to me it's not a task to get on everyday or a duty, but simply a way to have fun.

I've tried nearly every F2P game there is, and one FPS, and MS is the first game I have EVER spent my money on. Why did I do it?

Because even before I started playing, I decided to invest something in it. PEOPLE!!! A game feels a lot more important if you give something to it.

You do not have too, and you are free to have fun any way you please. I am disappointed at your opinions of the game, but regardless it still stands and flourishes to this day and many days to come.

The people who leave and better to forget, and every is made to embrace with an open mind and full heart!

I am involved in school sports.

    I have exceptionally good classes.

I've met my share of people.

But... If MS was commercialized in a different manner by someone you really admire you would play it too.

    Ever heard of the saying...

Life is 20% of what happens and 80% of how you handle it?

Emotions are a state of mind and that includes fun. Your reasons and reasoning guide you to picking a game you may enjoy...

And I have found my dream game, because it suits me. That's just who i am...

The biggest factor in determining ANYTHING TO ANYWHERE 4EVA is Circumstance. Just how you get into the game by pure chance. It is valuable and something that rather finds you.

LOL, I can't even begin to tell you the stories I have from MS. Many wonderful times and memories, and after the content patch Im going back to play.

    Bye.
