Actually of all games released recently, this I have had the most fun in. A bit worried about the end game. But hey why rain on the parade.

I stand by what I said here:

Then again, I am one of those wierd players who actually reads the text and enjoys a good plot.

Whomever wrote some of the dialog clearly had a sense of humor.  That I liked.  Too bad too many players will either skip it or wont get it.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

I'm really looking forward to the map being filled with red circles.  It adds such a unique aspect to the game.  A little bit of excitement...a little bit of stress .....add some fear of losing that brand new ship you just got.   Yep, can't wait.

They'd be even better if the mission areas actually matched them instead of being one of 12 canned areas that is always the same.

It's got... potential... but I don't pay for potential. I stand by what I said in my review... here

Anyone do the "Sea Dog Killer" line of missions? That one had me laughing. Several other story lines stand out in my mind... just can't think of the names.

As for the canned enviroments, well, how do you explain the wonderful mission/agent system in EVE?

Mind you, I pay for two accounts in EVE, so don't think I'm doing the popular thing and bashing EVE for the hell of it.

People not wanting to pay for potential is why canned tried-and-true formulas ala EQ, UO, and WoW pop up in 80% of the games made today.

yes i remember the sea dog from open beta..."escuse me could you go board that ship ot there and kill my wifes poodle...that dog makes me crazy"...it was very entertaining.

Sea Dog was great for the first couple parts, then was a grind when it became "sail around to 3 different ports and talk to 3 different bar tenders"

    :)
Easy: EVE doesn't pretend to be a PVE game, at all. In fact even during the tutorial they come right out and tell you you better be prepared to be shot at.

PVE in EVE is there for one reason: To make isk. EVE doesn't even try to pretend to take you through a storyline. Thus you can't really fault the mission system. What it's for is making isk and gaining/losing faction. It has nothing to do with 'storyline' 'plots' or what have you.

That said... the missions don't have artificial invisible walls, they have unique environments for those missions (each mission has it's own, no two are identical unless you are running the same mission again (yes I know, you wind up having to, but that's not the point since whenever they add new missions they create a new deadspace for it as well) and they have every bit as much an interesting 'text' to them as the PotBS ones if you bother reading them.

If PotBS had HALF the robust strengths in other areas that EVE does I wouldn't complain one bit. (See my notes about the lack of support for societies or individual trade methods in my review, and my comments about crafting as well).

I have been enjoying the game. I have only made one character, a Brit Privateer, but as I was playing a bunch "man, I wish" type of things popped into my head.

I did not realize the death penalty was to lose your ship though I should have. got distracted by my kids and by the time I got back to it I could not get away. Lost a new ship I just bought. No biggie...in fact I like the fact I know have to work to get another new ship! Makes it feel more challenging.

So what was on the "I wish" List?

Player housing: This would have been so easy. We are all ship captains so the "Captains Quarters" would have been sweet.

Sword play/ Avatar combat: I see potential but it need work. I wish the flashy moved combined together more smoothly so it actually looks like you are batting your enemies weapon away and the slashing through the opening. This could be exciting and should be, after all, it is swashbuckling and clearly part of the life of a Pirate.

Open seas: maybe it is me but I am having a hard time determining the strength of enemy craft before enganging. Is there a way to do this? Also, the open seas sailing looks like an old arcade game with a touch of Sid Meyers Pirates. I don't mind the speed as it would be boring to slowly sail from X to X but it could "look" better. Just my opinion.

Voodoo: One thing I thought was cool in POTC was the voodoo aspect. Now, I would not want the game to turn into a supernatural frightfest but I have seen no elements of this in the game so far. It would be cool to be able to perform some voodoo esq stuff.

Treasure Maps: I saw this was "in the works" so that was VERY cool. How can you have pirates without treasure maps and buried treasure.

Overall, a decent start to a potentially great game.
