Any Sci-Fi games out there like Neuromancer?

So I just started reading Neuromancer for my Sci-Fi course in University, and it got me in the mood for some edgy Sci-fi gameness. If you haven't read Neuromancer think Bladerunner-ish/Matrix-ish.

 

So are there any games out there that have that kind of dark dreary world where people are popping speed, hacking into corporate buildings, crazy samurai chicks, stealing from 'the man' or whatever else you may attach to that sort of style?

 

I know that Matrix Online is out there, but I heard it was horrible, so I don't know if I really want to give it a try.

 

The best example I can think of for the type of MMO I want to play is Shadowrunner from Sega Genesis (back in the day); could hack computers to get into buildings or disable security, shoot stuff up,  missions for underground resistances and making some hard cash etc. etc.

 

Any suggestions or games I should be looking out for?

    Keep an eye on "The Agency", it seems to be the closest thing to what you've just described.

    You may want to check out Neocron 2.  While it is set post-apocalyptic it incorprates a feel that you are going for.  All players are members or corperations that compete with apposing corperations and it also has a "NET" built into the game where hackers can attempt to raise defence for other players or steal blueprints from opposing corperations.

    The other game you may want to check out is Anarchy Online.  Don't know as much about this game.

    There is my 2 cents.  Good luck in finding your game.

    The only game I can think of that might fit that bill is Neocron 2. From what I have read on their site, I have not tried it yet myself, it is a lot like Shadowrun or if you remember the old PNP game Cyberpunk. Then there is Shadowrun that is kind of FPS from Microsoft that came out too, but it is not really an MMORPG. Hope those two suggestions help.

    Thanks guys! I'll check out both Neocron 2 and AO (again). I played AO in it's beta, but it never hooked me. I'll give it another shot.

     

    As for The Agency, it looked WAY too much like CoX for me; a game which I never enjoyed. Plus it definitely does not have a dark look to it.

    It sounds a LOT like Neocron 2 thats a Cyberpunk type game with hacking swords guns tight rubber clothing etc.

    Neocron has its own hacking world and you need to use the Hacking skill and special equipment when you zone into it.

    But the hacking world is kinda monotone really.  But it is novel.

    Do you have Half life 2 by any chance? Even though its not a mmo , you should check out "Dystopia".

    Its a total conversion mod set in a cyberpunk setting with deckers vs corprate merc's , it's not just deathmatch though ... theres class customization , cyber space to hack into and of course flags to be captured.
