Why did you put Tiggs in there? She hated the NGE and she left shortly before it went live. You also forgot Blixtev.
I was screwed over by the NGE, for sure and so were my mates, Force sensitives and what not. And i have moved onto greener pastures - SWG in its current state. Thats right, SWG is different now and so are those who are developing it. So perhaps you could take a little time to find out what its like, and if you cant be bothered to spend the money or time, what right do you have to continue to flame it at every chance, potentially drivng away new players.

SOE has tossed so many veteran trials in our way, that we could have played the game for months....

It's not like any of those are in SWG as it is..
Yes, people have used the trials, hence the many vets ive seen return to the game, stay, some join my guild.
I suspect many of those who have tried these trials have had the "rose-tinted glasses" syndrome, but even if not, i'd be interested to see whether these people have given it due time, when they did this and whether they joined guilds etc.
And to the reply above this, IT IS NOT your right to drive away players based on your "i want a rollback, i lost so much" opinion. Funnily enough, this wont matter to new people wanting to try it, the game as it is will matter, and thats ALOT different.

Some of us never got that far. I left at the CU and then came back because it was still somewhat enjoyable. I was a customer when the NGE hit, and it was utterly unplayable on my machine. The code is so messy from all of the revisions that it requires far more system resources than it should/used to. I can run COx, WoW, LotRO, EVE, EQ2, and other graphically-intensive and processor-heavy games, but I can't play the NGE. I know I'm not the only one who faced this problem.
One of the things that amazed me about SWG is how much sheer incompetence and bungling that could be seen by the public was tolerated by management.
Heck I remember one time where SWG basically said, "we're too far behind on answering customer service requets, so we're nuking all the existing CSR tickets in the queue, resolved or not, and starting from scratch."
If I SUGGESTED this at my place of employment, I'd be on the street in seconds.
Yet this was POLICY at SWG.
It's insane, but SOE saw no problem with doing this at all.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I think the "right" is rather constitutional. Something to do with free speech. It's a beautiful principle and is an important institution that prevents the public from being manipulated by things like propaganda, be it corporate or political.
Also, tbh many people posting have done recent trials. I went back after finding an unused game card under my desk in my office at home lol. Others keep in touch with friends who keep them (us) up to speed on the game periodically. So the information is often, though I acknowledge not always, current. Take my post on long-standing serious bugs STILL in the game for example. That information is current.
One thing I like about this site is that people get a chance to comment and review from various perspectives. We're allowed to openly disagree, provided we do it respectfully, and I think that's very cool. Sometimes I get frustrated with things, but I try (likely sometimes fall short being human and what not) to be respectful.
Also, for every poster like me, there's an Obraik or a Reklaw providing positive information, most often in a respectful and well informed manner. People can read reviews from all different perspectives if they want, do a free trial, and form their own opinion.
If the game is in good shape, it should stand on it's own. If SOE is really dealing with people honestly, they should be earning back some trust over time. If people don't approach the game, or stay with it, I wouldn't "shoot the messanger" so to speak (i.e. try to silence people that highlight real problems); instead, I'd try to get the real problems fixed.

It's really incredible how you found amusing names that actually fit their infamous behaviour. My favs are John "honest" Smed, Chris "I had a" Cao, and Julio "Tora Tora" Torres. I see how they fit their role in the history of SWG. One thing I don't get is the toilet reference? What's that about?
The "Toilet Boy" earned his nickname just before the NGE when he remarked on the forums that if his bosses told him to design a toilet in the middle of the living room he'd do it.
Blixtev Blair is basically a no talent yes man who is the current SOE lead dev for SWG, completely by default, as he was The Dork Lord's replacement. To get the job he basically had to completely lack enough talent for SOE to shove him off to the "Russian Front" (known as the DCMMO) which goes through Devs like a revolving door due to excess micromanagement by Smed, Cao, etc.
He was most known for being the Jedi nerfer from hell, every single CU era publish had a drastic Jedi skill nerf authored by him.
Blixtev is the epitome of the perfect SOE employee. Sociopathic, loyal, hates the customers, will do anything he's told without question. The offices in San Diego and Austin are likely filled with clones of Blixtev. Which explains rather adequately how things like the CU and NGE happen around there.
Lol I remember that post from him now that you mention it. Thanks for the reminder. If I remember right that whole conversation was in sort of a "yeah we're wrecking the game, but we have to do it to keep our jobs" context. I thought that was a sad state of affairs.
I do try to have the same "effect", as it were, of people like Obraik, infact hes a friend of mine, plays on the same server, but i do find it unnecessary when someone makes a post proclaiming that SWG isnt worth the money. The reason i do reply to such posts are because they do hold a lot of sway, especially those among the MMORPG community who are experience in MMOs but new to SWG and so look here. I just want to make sure people get another side of it, especially since im a regular player.
Those who criticise SWG intelligently usually have many valid points and i've no problem with that as i would hope i would have points to match those; which is good. And im active in trying to fix the game as it is, thats why i'd like people to know there isnt just a bunch of empty servers when you log onto SWG.

Gross mismanagement is an understatement to describe SWG management past and present.
The game has always been run by fools who consistently figure out the WORST possible move every single time.

I went to the summits. I tried to engage them there and on the message boards. They wouldn't listen. All they gave anyone who begged them to do the right thing was grief and forum bans.
The NGE FRAMEWORK is the reason why the game sucks. This makes EVERYTHING they have done to "improve" the game content wise completely irrelevant.
Stories of MMO projects and dev houses closing up are going to be quite common in 2008. Freeman is no asset to any gaming company. I wish him well, as long as he pursues opportunities NOT in the gaming industry. He is one of the names on my blacklist, I won't patronize any game or company that employs him or any of the others responsible for the NGE. Somehow, I can't get the image out of my mind, of the whole sorry ass NGE bunch, Freeman, Torres, McDaniel, Heliass, Toilet Boy, Chris Cao, etc all working as salesmen at "Honest Smed's Used Cars".
Don't forget Nancy "Picture books are fun!" MacIntyre.

They wouldnt listen because its unconstructive, the new devs see reason, and see that the only logical thing to do is to improve, not to make a huge change again and upset everyone.

you have a blog about how you hate SOE? ok
Which is what will prevent any chance of success. They NEED a drastic change, and it's back to skills based, back to unlocked Jedi, back to sandbox. This "we won't make drastic changes because we've learned our lesson on that" is complete bullshit, it's the worst cop out ever, to use the disaster of the CUNGE as an excuse to NOT get rid of the NGE! And that whole argument is bogus anyway, they don't need to change the NGE servers, they can open classic pre NGE servers, making that argument moot. The only reason why they won't do classic is because they know the servers will empty and the classics will fill up.
At any rate, it's FAR FAR too late for SWG. It's entered 2008 with between 25-29K subs and assuming it survives 2008 will exit with far less than that even.

you have a blog about how you hate SOE? ok
Which is exactly what SOE and LucasArsts would like you to beleive.
However, that said. There were indeed a lot of unconstructive critisism, but there were also some very valid critisism against the NGE/CU which SOE and LucasArts plain ignored in a very arrogant way.
Remember SOE's response to all those players that voiced their concern about the CU & NGE back then? SOE basically said "like it or f%$#-off"! Would you like to keep on paying a company that treats it's customers like that?
The thing is that SOE isn't "top-dog" in the MMO industry any longer, but they don't seem to realise that. And that is also whyh they are heading for a "belly-up" if they don't change their ways. A completely new top management team is probably the only thing that will save SOE and their bad reputation.

I completely agree with this statement. I always found it very ironic that, at first, SOE deleted every single PRE-CU/NGE thread on their boards during the first few months of the NGE, and, after some time when they decided to soften up to attract the vets back they began to lock all PRE-CU threads claiming that "this topic has been covered numerous times to be considered current game play discussion..."
As if they ever allowed a discussion about it in the first place...
Remember SOE's response to all those players that voiced their concern about the CU & NGE back then? SOE basically said "like it or f%$#-off"! Would you like to keep on paying a company that treats it's customers like that?
I remember Garva's post which contained a very similar statement that was stickied in the Jedi forum (don't remember if there was a general one) that received about 90+ pages within a half hour. Talk about the biggest backfire SWG ever received, a couple days later an EQ2 dev came in and said that he was warned by SWG devs about the community, his thread also backfired.
SOE didn't and still doesn't know how to handle their customers.

Ok, makes sense to me . I like to hear about the game's state from people that are currently playing, those that don't like it, and those that do--like yourself. I just enjoy the exchange more I guess when people with different points of view don't try to silence others.
In fact, one of the most informative threads for me was the one that Jeff Freeman participated in a number of times. He tried hard not to break his NDA; I'm not sure how successful he was at that though, because he shared a lot of information that gave us some insight into the thinking at SOE around the NGE.
Also, if you or Obraik ever come online here and say, "the way point arrows are finally fixed," or "woohoo the collision detection works," I'll be happy for my pals that still play, and who have been putting up with that stuff for years now. They'll be happier also I'm sure, and that would be good, honest p.r. for the game.

Tbh I am glad that "now" they won't make a huge change to the game mechanics. I really don't want to see other people lose 2 years worth of progress. I didn't like it, and I don't wish it on anyone.
However, when the NGE first came out, and was unplayably broken, and destroyed player's characters and two years of progress, and ruined features in the new expansion, a rollback AT THAT POINT would have been the "right thing to do" in my mind. Now, it's far, far too late to be talking rollback.
The option that SOE still seems to pass over is the "classic server option." Other games have made this work, and everyone has used the classic coke analogy. Why they always dig their heals in over this, I'm not sure I'll ever really understand.
They said this isn't feasible because they got rid of the code. Frankly that's a hard statement to believe. No back ups for an MMO? They then said it isn't financially feasible to run two versions of the game. I bet they'd get volunteers to run a classic server, and some vets would play it "as is," bugs and all. For that matter I'm sure they could get some volunteers to debug it too.
Since they didn't rollback when it would have been extremely welcome and ethical to do so, and since they refuse to consider classic servers, that only leaves trying to make the NGE appealing to a large population. That's been a long hard road, and not the one I would have chosen.

Tiggs is NOT on that list. And Blixtev is there, Thomas "Toilet Boy Blixtev' Blair
Don't forget Nancy "Picture books are fun!" MacIntyre.
SWG? Pull the plug already!
I used to remember Nancy as Nancy "Nerf is Good" McIntyre.
Those idiots could rot in hell for all I care. Talentless bunch of pathetic meatbags.

you have a blog about how you hate SOE?

SOE didn't and still doesn't know how to handle their customers.
