The Collectors Edition items... I just dont get it..

While the ring will propably be replaced after the first few levels and that drinkin cap is only good for some roleplayers,

why doesnt funcom for example give collectors edition buyers a unique horse or something that considers every gamer, not only the rolelayers? how often would you use a drinkin cap with propably no combat stats and how often would you use a horse and how often will other players see that item in and out of combat ?

they could sell far more CE's with something like that instead of unuseful crap.

dont they have some clever marketing guy who told them that ? I just dont understand these gaming companies these days, they act so dump sometimes.

I believe it's a drinking CAPE that you put on your back, not a cap you wear on your head.  Also, there is drunken brawling as part of the game.  I would naturally think that having free booze for this would be a good thing.

If you feel like forking over gold pieces over and over just so that you can get to the right kind of buzz so that you can fist fight at your optimum level then you go for it.  Drunken brawling has no impact on the general population of AoC's world.  So no matter what you give people in this circumstance, in the end it's only a mini game for you to do while you take a break from the actual pvp that has a meaning.  Giving people Drinking Capes does not really affect others all that much.

There are plenty of other things in AoC that you can involve yourself with, a drinking cape should really be a non issue for you since you plan to partake in combat and slaying monsters.  I really don't see why you're getting all wound up about something that shouldn't impact you in any way whatsoever.  I think it comes down to you just wanting free stuff that is right for your kind of game play.  But if that was the case then the game balance would be somewhat skewed even if it's at the beginning because right of the bat there would be people who bought this stuff because they wanted to be ahead of the rest simply because they paid money.  This whole situation would then remind me of all the Asian grinders out there with item malls.  Why do anything when you can just use your real world money and just get all the best shit.  Kinda looses out on the whole point of having a game you play.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Pretty sure theres rhino or mammoth mounts you get if you pre order. Ask Avery he's usually a go to guy for it.

    Bollocks!

Mammoth mount from Gamestop, and Rhino mount from Best Buy.  I think you get those with regular edition pre-order as well...

Kinda annoying how us UK'ers dont get any of these special mounts for pre-ordering AFAIK.

My guess is that the collector's edition is aimed toward the fans of the Conan books/comics/movies, rather than the people who are simply fans of the game. Which sort of explains why it's more real item heavy as opposed to in-game stuff. A lot of stuff in here to add to their collections.

I have already pre-ordered the CE and to be honest, I do not care about the in-game items. I mean WOW only gave you a mini pet. LOTRO gave you a cape that you replace in the first 20 levels and an item thats like 1 minute long on an hour cool down (not sure on the stats there - been a long time since I played).
What I like about the AOC CE is the detail going into it. I love the Conan stories and lore and the devs have taken great care in this package. The 5 buddy passes for me was a huge thing to convince me as well. I have a lot of friends who want to try the game and I can let them do so.
According to Ten-ton Hammer, here are the details on the CE: http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/18219

    Metal Embossed Cover
Actual Poem Written by Robert E. Howard
    128-page Art Book
    The Conan Soundtrack
Professionally Crafted Leather Map of Hyboria
    Bonus DVD with Various Footage
    Five Buddy Keys
In-Game Item - "Ring of Asheron" - Gives 2% XP Modifier and 3% Stamina Regeneration
In-Game Item - "The Drinking Cape" - Free Drinks for Life

Being a fan of Conan, the book, poem and map are enough to convince me. However, add the DVD, the soundtrack and the buddy keys and it was a done deal.
Also, and I am speculating here, the ring is really nice, at least for a while. The % should scale with level (I assume) so that can equal out to a lot for exp and regen over time. So again it isn't the in-game items that convinced me, its the out of game items. CE's are designed for huge fans of the genres and thats who they appeal too. The CE's I have are from my favorite games and companies and I do not regret buying a single one of them.

I pre-ordered it too m8 :P The art book sold it solely for me as im a huge fan of most Game artwork :)

Why should you get something uber-special, or some item that is unbalanced, just for spending more money?  WoW gave a little pet for an ingame item...for SWG it was sunglasses...hardly useful.  People did not buy those CEs for the ingame items...people will not buy AoC CE for the ingame items.

What they are offering for the AoC CE is a great amount of items for fans of the Conan Saga...if you do not want to buy it then don't, no sense in bashing it.

Now, if the CE came with a lesson on how to use capitlization and proper grammar...well...you'd better be the first to buy one.

    Here's a situation:

You are not into the lore, You are not into having items then boost you in game, your interested in a collectors edition box set for the game - what would YOU put in it?

Point is because the game is based on Funcoms twist on Conan Lore, and several surveys later, people are playing for an interest in the game and also the lore. Which is why you see what you see in the collectors edition box.

No matter what you put in that box its not going to appeal to everyone, so they made it so it appeals to the most likely..
