Well some games today have a certain upgrade where you can play on 56k with alot of people and there would be no lag. They say it plays "as smooth as silk". But any way cmon its 21st century you should be playing on dsl get the 56k out of here. Games should not be play on 56k.

it is completly ok to play a game on a 56k modem, there is absolutly notheing wrong with it.  you have to keep in mind that not everyone is as fortunate as other people to live in a place where broadband is offered to them.

for the past 4 years i staffed up at a boyscout camp where there was almost nothing in the way of technology.  a few of us always brought our computers and everything up with this, but there was no broadband up there.  they did have 2 phone lines that were really in need of some maintainence.  scratchy and fusy all over the place.  me and my friend successfuly played and had 2 sessions of eq going on one of the phone lines.  and much to our suprise, it worked fairly well.

after a few years of that, we finally got a satelite dish put in to serv us better internet than the phone line.  it was good, but notheing compaired to cable or dsl.

so yeah, this new game should be playable with no problem of just a regular modem.  if your out where you cant get cable or dsl, try what we did and get a satelite put in, the company is called starband.

You're from NY they should have broadband where you live, get it if you can. You don't have to worry about getting disconnected (if you have a good broadband ISP) If you have DSL you can use the phone and be online at the same time, but I think cable is faster. I used to have DSL and downloaded demo's and stuff at 150kbps but I switched to cable and now get 450 KBPS.

    Spider sense... tingling.

Many games do support 56k, but the problem starts to kick in when graphics are too high, or when you run into a group of people, who have different gear on or are different races.. This causes you to dl a lot more information, which lags you. You can certainly play with a 56k connection, but you will be missing out on the world's design, and most centertainly cause you less frustration during combat.

If you can get a broadband connection, by all means do, it'll make a world of difference.

BTW, I had a buddy playing AC2 on 56k, and he had no problems, although he really didn't get involved in big player events or hang around areas that were known to be heavily populated.
