Fellow CoAers
I’d like to propose some new conspiracy theories so that all the nay-sayers can continue to contribute to the forum:
- Men can’t wear bikini bottoms (chain mail, +2 to support). This means all the chars will look exactly the same, Funcom has zero imagination.
- On the way to Funcon, AmazingAvery gets overwhelmed by large, blond Norwegian women and never makes it. This leads to never getting our questions answered, leading the entire AoC community into a downward spiral that leaves them only able to play Pong.
- Mounts will be removed from battle situations because it’s only a matter of time until PETA files a complaint. We’ll be forced to bring in a “Mammoth Whisperer” (at 1 gold per hour) to help your mount overcome it’s anxiety due to stepping on an Aquilonian.
- The only music allowed in AoC is Norwegian Wood. “I once had a Cimmerian, or should I say he once had me…”
- Thing are going too smoothly! It can only mean CoA’s eminent demise.
Everyone smile, it’s a game.

...? Wtf?
You probably don't remember, but things were going 'smoothly' for Anarchy Online as well.
Until it launched.
Then, things did not go quite so smoothly as Funcom and Fans were claiming.
So you may want to hold onto your cash until you get some reports of how the AoC behaves under real-world load of players over real net connections.
Not the phony CES setups where it has been demonstrated so far (with less than stellar performance, I might add).
I also fail to see what "less than stellar performance" video that you can justify your claim of doom and gloom in regards to system performance.

I was around at AO launch, it wasn't pretty but it was the launch. Few weeks later the game was starting to run better etc. That being said, it was a good game just didn't run stable at first. I'm sure it'll be better then AO at first but I'm going think it's not going to be prefect too.
The launch of AO is the guarantor for a painless AoC release. They've learned their lesson. Using AO's failed launch as argument that AoC will fail - and redo the same mistakes again - is just ignorant. Anyone claiming that I will seriously question their ability for intelligent and rational thought.
Funcom has released two expansion packs for AO, of both who were released without a single incident. They've released several other games which weren't buggy. There's just no empirical evidence that AoC will have a failed launch, sorry. Will it have a few bugs? Yeah I'm sure it will. Will that constitute a failed launch? Only if you hate AoC, Funcom and really want it to fail. Luckily it's the consumers that defines it's success and I'm not talking about the consumers of it's "competitor" - you know what I mean.
You guys are starting to sound pathetic. You want AoC to fail so bad, but you're slowly running out of arguments. It's just sad. You really should start concentrating on your own game. AoC isn't for you simple as that.
Yup
The whole point of my rather lame sense of humor was to highlight the unfounded issues that CoA seems to have or will have upon release.
I for one am willing to see what new stuff Funcom is going to share, what answers Avery brings back and what Open Beta offers. Till then i'll keep my concerns and hopes to myself and just enjoy the ride.
Their isnt going to be an open beta...... and its AoC btw, not CoA

Ok, "semi-open" beta. You still have to sign up.

Oh no, AO was an amazing game. Far ahead of it's time it introduced things that are all but expected in an MMOG today. Was leaps and bounds ahead of any competition at it's time. But the launch was botched horribly. I was in the beta for AO and joined the day it launched. Yea it was bad, really, really bad. But Funcom cleaned the game up in a few months and it went on to just improve over the years.
A testiment to the games genius, it's perhaps the most played of any of the 'classic' MMOGs today. Sure it's free to play parts of the game, but a remarkable number of old vets from the early days still play. You can find the cities still bustling with activity, something you can barely claim with any of it's competition.
There were several problems at release; the game was incredibly unstable, lag so horrible that it was like watching a slide slow of your relatives that just got back from vacation, and numerous bugs or issues that after two months I had to cancel my account because of frustration and unhappiness. While today there are still a few bugs in Anarchy Online, most issues have been dealt with via patches. What's left is the game that was initially envisioned, made better by some newly created features resulting from player feedback. The major problem with the game is nothing new to fans of MMORPGs -- once you tire of either killing monsters, making items, or engaging in lengthy debates about corporate downsizing while staring at a pixellated sky, there's not much left to do.

You seem too sure on an affirmation that is wrong
Oh dear god the launch was horrible. The fact that it got better, was and and still is a damn good game these days is beside the point. Its too late, the innovative features and stellar graphics are now standard and/or outdated in MMOs. Because of that launch, AO is a niche game that barely topped 100k subs and went down since, if they had launched largely as the game is now, it would likely be a rival for the big names out there in terms of population (not including WoW).

Regardless of whatever idiotic conspiracy theories are floating around... I may get the $90 Collector's Edition. My worry is that I'll spend that much on it, and the game will be just another huge letdown, like so many other MMOs lately.
I have yet to find an MMO that stands up to my first experience (UO). Early SWG and Planetside were good, but most of the other MMOs were just.. bleh! I'm afraid that I'm going to follow AoC up until launch, dish out $90 on the CE, and then be disappointed again.
Playing: BF2142
Waiting For: Jumpgate: Evolution
Played: UO, DAoC, MCO, EQ, AO, TSO, Shadowbane, Planetside, SWG, FFXI, CoH, L2, EQ2, WoW, MxO, EVE, AoC
Played 6mo+: UO, EVE
Errrhh?????
Then don't !!
Jeez....you already suspect it will fail so why spend 90 bucks on a drinking cape when you can probably get the full game for 20 bucks a month after release????
