Why do people do tells to random people for help?

RuthgarRuthgar Member Posts: 730

Are people lazy?

Example 1:

I'm in the Netherwing mines doing dailies and I get a tell : "u hlp w quest"

I kindly ask "Help with which quest?"

He replies with some random 5 person quest. I inform him that I am busy in the mines, and he responds

"lol it says sh moon for you lol"

Example 2:

Once again I'm doing a daily, this time in Blades's Edge.

"u help wit elite?"

I respond "What elite?"

He then tells me some random level 72 elite somewhere in Bladges Edge.

I tell him that I am a Holy Priest and that he should find a Paladin or Druid.

Example 3:

Someone tells me "r u healer?"

I say "I am a Holy Priest"

He says, "r u healer?"

I say  "Every Holy specced Priest I know heals"

He responds "o i thought some didnt" and then adds "do u want 2 come to SV?"

What is up with these people?

I don't really mind those sort of tells so much on the whole, it is the constant nagging for boosts when you ride through a low level area that annoys me.

There was one case the other day though that annoyed me. I was helping a lower level guild member in westfall complete a few quests and we were doing the 'Shadow Pendants' when a guy asked to join us. I told him we weren't hanging around and he asked again as he couldn't get any help. So i did a quick look up of his guild name and he had 49 guild mates online, more than half of them L70's. I pointed out to him that he had guild mates online and couldn't they help him, he came back with 'there weren't that many online and they were all below L30'!!!! I then revealed that i knew there were 49 online and more than half were L70, so he stropped then, saying "it's obvious you don't want to help me" and ran off!

I have no issues helping anyone when i have the time or if i am not already helping a guild mate, but it really annoys me when people are members of massive guilds and go begging to others for help, i thought that was the reason for being in a guild in the first place?

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

I understand what your saying OP, I found nags for help in WOW annoying at times.

But while I would never send a random tell for help, I frequently did help some folks just because I could.

I think it all goes back to my days in DAOC, when people would see you struggling and offer to assist you.  And asking folks to join their groups was the only way to really get things done.

I'm not quite sure where you draw the line on help requests, but I do sort of miss the days when people didn't seem to mind helping you once in a while.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

I don't mind requests for help, so long as I'm not busy, and the person asking is not retarded about it. I'll help if I'm just farming or something, but if I'm on my way to Kara, or Gruul, or ZA, or something like that and I get "hay, u want 2 do mech?', then I get pissy.

Just have a lil' patience with people, and most of those situations can be resolved peacefully.

What confuses me is the random begging for coin. You check the char and he's in a guild. A well known large guild. Isn't that what a guild is for? Grouping and helping and support? If your guild won't help you, then you need to look for a new one.

Why do poeple do tells to random people for help?

Because they can't figure out how to use LFG to do it?  Or even general?

Beats the heck out of me.  Those are the only two ways I ever use to look for someone to help me out if I can't find a guildie to do so...

At least in SWG you knew that because there was no used general chat channel, and that they had a search system for finding specific professions, you had some idea of how you were located when you got a random tell.  Anyone who dared to use the "Master Doctor" tag and was searchable would get requests for rezzes...

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
