I can see some simalarities between these games, having played DAoC a bit back when it was new. I feel that it was a pretty good game overall, but there were some key design flaws.
As WAR nears release, I hear more and more of the dev's reaching back into their DAoC bag of tricks, and while having an open mind is good for good ideas, there are some things I do not wish to see sneaking into this game at release.
One bonus, is the keep system. I feel that if it were implemented correctly where keeps are fairly fluid without being "tag" then I think that could help stabalize the rvr as we know it.
Anyone have any systems they don't want to see?

I rather liked the keep system actually, especially on the Mordred server (FFA PVP).
But that said, I really don't want to see the "Buff Bot" situation arise, where people open 2nd, 3rd and 4th accounts simply to create characters who specialize in buffing.
I hope they go with the Classic Servers implementation of buffing which limited the range buffs could extend from the buffing character. I don't want to see a situation where the frontier keeps were surrounded by afk buffing characters that existed simply to give folks an edge.

I don't want to see ongoing balance issues with comparable classes for each faction. They need to have the balance right from the beginning, to avoid the class-changing "nerfs" and adjustments that plagued DAOC. This is obviously extremely difficult, given that there is both a PVE and PVP aspect to the game, but I can only hope the dev teamed leared a lot from DAOC and are better prepared in advance for WAR.
Good call. Buff bots were a terrible plague on the game. Shorter-term buffs that can be quickly re-applied within range is a better solution.
I agree, multi-maging was a problem with the buff-botting. I also hope that balance isn't a major issue in the early game (although I have my suspicions) due to both skill power and numerical advantage.
I also don't want to see a race get some manner of personal boon due to their class being in shorter supply OR their entire realm. Maybe something more world-based, but nothing character based, because while people may love the edge at first, that edge always seems to disappear when numbers take off. I really dislike the "flavor-of-the-month" builds based on the particular bonus in an update.

Stealth invisibility style.
It was a curse in DaoC. It made the rogue classes both hated, feared and weak at the same time, and it took away a lot of the fun for a lot of players.
I would like if there were some scouting ability in the game so you could have people out observing enemy armies and report back. It adds a lot of flavor to RvR battles. But stealth zergs are not a good idea.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
Totally agree.
The Keep system will give guilds something to own and protect.
It's a great idea especially since many posters have been asking, "Can guilds have their own towns?"
Well, not towns, but holding a fort or keep, especially if it has NPC vendors and crafting stations is pretty much a insta-mini-town -- and you'll have to defend it. I think it's a good idea.

Don't want to see:
~~ Buffbots -- I had a second account in DAoC just for a buffbot. I did not like the idea that to compete successfully I needed to group with this otherwise useless bot just for buffs (for the certainty of getting buffs). No buffbots. No long-range, group-only buffs which created the need for buffbots. Bad. Bad.
~~ Excessive Crown Control -- He who mezzes first wins. It's the opposite of combat; it stops combat. I hated it.
~~ No "easy" kills -- I always felt that characters in DAoC simply died too easily. A few good hits, or a couple crit hits and you were toast. WAR gameplay RvR videos show that characters will be much more resilient. You'll actually get to fight.
~~ No stealth/invisibility -- I'm not saying I did not have a Rogue and that it was not fun. But I will bite the bullet and happily welcome NO stealth in WAR for the good of the game. I'd at least like to see who is trying to kill me.
~~ Expansions that added to the PvE content -- The game's about RvR, and Mythic just expanded the PvE portions of DAoC hugely ... and eventually paid the price for that. When they finally got around to adding the New Frontiers, it was not well received. I hope they have learned their lesson.

Anything that makes you just stand there and wait your turn to be ganked, especially anything that affects the masses. I would prefer no mass spells.
I played DAoC Trial and stoped after 1 day becouse of camera lock thing.....any1 can confirm that WAR dont have camera lock thing?? but WoW / Vanguard system??

I would like to not see anything from DAoC in WAR. If you want to play DAoC it's still there to play. Why would you want to see it again in WAR? It should be nothing like DAoC.

BTW, just a memory from DAoC.
Running with a group of Hibs and suddenly we come upon Albs.
First thing that happens:
Bolt-range (longest range nuke) AoE mezz -- everybody freezes!
I put my pointer up on the mezz icon and look at the timer. Timer says, "1:14 secs."
I was like (not for the first nor last time) utterly stunned at the stupidity of allowing such a thing in RvR.
We weren't high enough Realm Rank to have gotten the skill that removed mezzes so we just stood there will drool dripping for our lips as the melee-tank-assist simply went from one person to another and smashed us down.
We had no defense.
May that kind of spit never happen again in RvR!

Ah, I think you mean Mouse Movement (turning) vs. Mouse Free-Look (or whatever the game happens to call it.
I believe these things are selectable from options -- usually.
Like, left mouse button for steering and right button for free-look -- or something like that. I would think these things would be selectable in mouse/keyboard options.
I have noted in the gameplay videos that some people use the straight "chase camera view" while others are swiveling their view around with "mouse-look."
For that reason I am sure it exists in the game -- but I have no specific details.

I didn't play DAoC much. I quit because leveling/PVE was not fun.
I tried it for the pvp but never got very far along. I got bored stiff way before then.
OP expansion classes.
Doesn't matter to me. I loved DAoC, so the more the better.
EDIT: Actually, no auto-face would be nice.
Balancing. Wish Mythic would make small adjustments every now and then if new skills are added, but NOT the madness that happened in DAoC when every month classes got huge nerfs. This will, on the long term, decide how succesfull WAR is.
Ya, I definately hate excessive AOE's and constant nerfs and rebalances.
It has been my experience that nerfs usually cause more nerfs until no one is happy. When I think back to COX at launch, ASIDE from bugs, the game was probably as balanced as it is now. Sure regen and perma-unstoppable was broken, but there are still broken skill sets even today.
I think DAoC was a solid game, but it had some pretty lousy quirks like buff-bots, and balance issues.

I just tried the 14-day trial for daoc, but stopped at day number 1. I used to play daoc, and considered it to be far superior to any other mmo.
The main reason I quit this time, was because of the ridicolously bad user interface and how the movement / mouse-look didnt work I guess I have gotten too comfortable playing other games.... the game that must not be mentioned....
In short. I really wouldnt want to see the daoc UI
The first expansion will have skaven so they will be OP!
Massive insta mezz that last for minutes. I never want to see this in ANY MMO EVER again!
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
Whilst it may not have been a big issue in DAoC, Crowd Control has killed Lord of the Rings monster play and WoW pvp. I hope WAR isn't full of stuns, slows and mezzes.
