I havent played many mmos. The only one Ive ever played for longer than a year is FFXI. What I look for in an mmo is a game that requires you to go out and form parties and make friends. Solo content is cool too but I dont want a game where you can cap out soloing with some end game grouping. Does this game offer grouping? Can you solo the whole game?
Playing EQII until AoC come. lvl 15 and have only spoken to 1 other person ><.

Try Lord of the Rings Online
* Don't cheat (Buy Gold)
* Role Play on Landroval
* Actually do the Fellowship quests when you get them
* Pick a crafting profession that will get you in good armor and can make you $ on the AH
* Farm your own Mastercraft materials
* Take the time to read the Lore and follow the unfolding storylines.
* Play in Monster-Play too. You really cannot survive there as a Solo player.
* Find a good Roleplay Kinship and join up.
Sure, you can blast your way through to the level-cap solo. But you will have experienced almost nothing of what the game really has to offer.
Good Hunting
Hey MBG and welcome to the AoC forum
To answer your question (and i'm by no means the expert around here so you'll be hearing from people more knowlegable them me) it is a "Yes" to both your questions.
There is grouping and to see how to group, check out this site: http://aoc.wikia.com/wiki/User_Interface/LFG
As to Soloing (something i end up doing 75% of the time because i'm a causal player with limited time) i read that you can solo all the way to 80 But obviously it means you miss out on a significant amount of content such as dungeons, etc. This obviously will have implications on your gear. I frankly didn't care, i played solo when there were no groups around or joined if i was invited.
Hope that helps.
As to Shoal - you may want to check out this site since it's more relevant to your post: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/forum/531
And MBG, if your idea of a fun MMO is running pies from one side of the map to the other is your idea of a good time then i definately would check out LOTR.
thanks
Was just suggesting a game for play until AoC actually releases.
It did not seem that EQ2 was meeting the needs he expressed.
Sorry to not be clear on that point.
Honestly, noone can answer your question because noone has played the release build of the game. All I can offer you is that it has been said there alot of content for solo and teamplay.
