AoC is 90 bucks!!!! wow... those ingame items better rule

So I just saw the pricetag on this game, and WOW, this is very pricy indeed.

Just a question for people who may have read more interviews than I have, are the in-game items useful or are they the average garbage items that are replaced by level 8?

The collectors edition is pretty darn costly for a game with a NDA still going for beta.

I personally don't think there should be a pre-order until the people who have tried the game can legally speak about it!!!

You make it sound like someone is twisting your arm to buy the CE version. If you buy it clearly the price is right. If you don't it might not.

  • safwdsafwd Member Posts: 879

CEs are for the people who want the collector stuff that comes in the box.

In game items are usually pretty weak and you will only use them for a few levels.

  • ZodanZodan Member Posts: 564

I just want the collector's edition because I have been waiting for this game since it's announcement with high hopes and thus the content in the CE is secondary for me.

And so it shall be written! I'm as much a fanboi as the next guy, but I'm not so sure I would buy the CE-version either. It's good an all to support a company that makes a kickbutt game, but I don't believe in subsidicing on a principle level.

The Collector's Edition is not about ingame items...it's about the extra swag.  And yes, the extra stuff is worth the higher price tag if you are a fan of Conan Lore.

The ingame items they are ok...nothing special though, and that does not bother me at all.

People, like myself, who purchase CE's are fans of the universe. Anyone who purchases a CE for the in-game items will always be sorely disappointed. Its the extra items you get such as dvds, cds, books and such.
For example, I have both the WOW and BC CE's. What did they come with in-game? A non-comabt pet. Thats it. What I liked were the making of dvds and the books about the game and other items like the cd and mosue pad.
The same with AOC. I have already preordered the CE because I am a fan of the Conan universe and Robert E. Howard's works. CE's are made for true fans and fans who love the universe in which the game is set. I would highly advise that you do not purchase the CE simply for the in-game items because CE's are simply just so much more.

    Amen and well said.

I preordered (the standard version) for $35 which seems pretty cheap to me.

    faux=not real

Ya, I'm a standard edition guy, but if it is only a 10 dollar swing, I will up to the CE.  this is more of a $40 swing, so I think I'm going to let the ring and cape go to the wayside.

even though i admit that the drinking coat sounds funny and all that jazz, im not really looking for the in-game items THAT badly. i like the idea of having the ost cd, art book, few bonuses and yea, that leather map sounds nice too... about the in-game items such as the ring.. "only... it doesnt make a bit of difference, guys; the balls are inert"

Seeing your profile I assume that is in Euros?  If not, where did you find that price?

i pre-ordered the game in my local EB games/gamestop-store here in Finland, they said that you can pre-order pretty much anything from them and age of conan - collectors edition was no different. guy in the store even looked up that info from the their computer and said that yes, they will get those too... or atleast thats what he said

Actually here in Norway,$90 is the normal prize for a new computer game ... So if you see it from their angle, its pretty cheap

If I purchase I'll get the standard version and save my $.  But I'm a little hesitant to purchase on the release date as of now so I'm going to wait a few weeks and see if it's worth my money, if not then I guess I'll have to wait for WAR.

Wait about 3-4 months after ship and the CE will be between $29.99 and $49.99. If AoC is a moderate flop (which I doubt), then it'll probably be in the bargain bin for $19.99.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

www.game.co.uk has it for £17.99, and I translated into dollars (roughly - at today's echange rate, that would be $35.18).

..."a faux leather map of Hyboria"...  "faux" means "fake"

The collectors edition is for $89.99 in north america.

In all honesty, the art book alone could be worth 89.99 if it is big enough and thick enough and bound properly.  This collectors edition really is a collectors edition, only a certain number are gonna be made and they will be numbered.

    My prediction of the future:

The map will become outdated as the game goes on as new content is added which wont be on it.  The ring will be worthless as the game ages you will need to choose between the XP bonus or a ring with better stats.  Are the drinks really worth that much in this game?  I hope not since they have that bar brawl mini game (if it is still in the game).
