The one who is right on the spot? This game is boring, unimaginative, zoned and bad designed. Where a pirate game claims from freedom (the call of the seas), this game is nothing more than a boring closed box of boring missions. A few people is having a blast with the PvP? The game is PvPers only? Good!! But those people should try chess, its much more intelligent and strategic...

A MMO (note the first M, for massive) is much more than this instanced piece of ... Well.. Pirates of Boring Sea is the right name for it.

Yawn... Rinse and Repeat Poster, same repetetive post, different time and different day...

I look forward to your same reply in another message, just worded differently I suppose. Then again, with the release around the corner, I am going to miss your constructive posts and critism about this game, since you wont be participating in Pirates ofthe Boring Sea...

We got why smitty didnt like it. Whats your reason Domenicus?? Let me guess, its got to be the avatar combat sucks? Hmmm.. Its a niche game, so it sucks.. Better yet, the game doesnt have too much immersion? How about this one, there is no swimming and fishing allowed? Wait, heres one.. I am looking for a WoW replacement and this isnt remotely close to a WoW game... Okay finally, I just dont get it and anybody that plays this is just a tard.. (This has got to be the real reason).

Have fun in your next mmo Domenicus and I wish you the best of luck and the community you will belong too.

My reason is simple. I got VERY disappointed with this game. It had EVERYTHING to be great... The very theme inspires freedom.. And the MMO market claims for something new yet good!!! And then, instead a good, free world to sail, good things to do, a sandbox game, we have...this... No, I dont like WoW, in fact for the same reason I dont like WoW I dont like this game. Its not a sandbox, it puts the intelligence of the player at the bottom. This game was the one which I most antecipated as a hope to beat the imbecility of the MMO market (lead by WoW).

I played EvE, I played SWG, thats my kind of game. PoBS is just idiotic...

Ok so you picked this. You have a blog or something that I can check when a good game being released so, uh, hmm, refering to this:

" The one who is right on the spot? This game is boring, unimaginative, zoned and bad designed. Whereas you answer a question to whom to listen to, when it comes to playing/trying the game, regarding if it good or not. I mean it would be simplier reading your blog then play a game because good forbid I like it where as you don't. 'Cause one would be pretty stupid if enjoying this game, as a poster telling it is not good being "spot on". Oh! Talking about personal opinions, well say that then. I just thougth you knew what others would like.

So naturally someone saying that it is not fun, good, whatever. Is on the spot for you as you don't like the game.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

    Finally something we agree upon...

Anyways, good luck Domenicus on your next game and I really mean that. PotBS is still very new to open market, for all we know, this game might turn into a pile of dung a year from now and I may be eating alot of my words and super fanboy antics comments (but at this point, there is no way in hell I can say this game sucks like the rest of you disgruntle X-PotBS players)..

But for now, I am going to enjoy the game and take it one day at a time. I will believe in the game as long as I (personally) enjoy it. I played Beta for awhile (loved it still) and still loving the game to this point (Pre-Launch). I got a fantastic guild and looks like I am on a excellent server as well. I got 3 characters on the same server 20 Privateer - 15 Naval and 12 Trader and having a blast with all 3.

    to wrap my reply up...

Yeah, my future endeavours include AoC and Warhammer Online as well as anybodys elses. Will these games bomb? At this point, we all don't know. But at this point in time, PotBS is my main game the rest like Eve, Call of Duty 4 and SWG (just dabbling in and out).

But maybe one day, we will like a new mmo that is released.. And we can be on the same side of the fence instead on opposite sides of our opinions.

This game will launch with less than 100k, and without HUGE pushes in the update department will never see 6 figures.

On that note, I hope this game doesn't reach a million subs.

I'll bury this comment deep in an already old thread, but I'm finally going to say it. Anybody who has been reading this board of late should have noticed a suddenly concerted effort by people with very few posts pushing the game. And a lot of these accounts were created a long time ago in '04/'05. Right about the time development started on PotBS.

I'll grant the right of developers to try and counter malicious and possibly professional anti-marketing. But please FLS, you're going overboard with the spam. It's becoming too obvious. However good luck with your new game, and thanks for trying something a little different.

Shrug I wouldn't be surprised at all.

People are always between 30-40. Never kids. All live in same place. They only post in the PoTBS section etc..

It's why I dun listen to those posts anymore. I hate viral marketing, it's useless anyway, just sad lol.

<---------- I post positively about PoTBS, I am not in the 30-40 age range, and I created my account roughly a month ago. The picture was just me being sarcastic with photoshop and some pictures.

Dont suppose you played DAoC back when it was in beta? No frontiers, No RvR, No dungeons, Zones without any mobs, etc. None of that made it in till 30 days before the game launched. And yet the game did quite fine. Imagine that.

EVERYTHING in here is an opinion, if you havent noticed... Including yours... There is no Holy Grail of games or ANYTHING, just opinions. However, there is a few common grounds... Its like reality, we dont know if, in fact, we do existe, however there is a few points which let us suppose that there is a  good chance that we, in fact, exist (read Kant). The same applies to MMOs.

For example, the first ´M´ of a MMO stands for massive. sorry, but the facts shows that instanced is not the same as massive. Other thing, even the die hard fanboy tells that the Avatar fight sucks. And avatar fights, being extremelly generous, is responsible for at least 35% of the game. Therefore, the game can be, at maximun from a grade of 0-10, a grade 6.5. IF its perfect in all others aspects. Which is far from that.

Repetitive quests are also, commonly considered a bad thing. And, yes, the game has repetitive quests.

Which let the fanboys with 2 arguments only:

    1) The game will be improved, it sucks now, but it will be good tomorrow.

    2) The game is based on PvP, and economics. All the rest are secondary, not important (as if the PvP was good in this game, but wharever...)

The problem with argument 1 is that consider all consumers idiots. Because they pay for something bad now, to have a bad experience, so in the future it *MAY* be good. The logic says to not spend anything now and wait it became good.

The argument number 2 says that the game sucks in everything but PvP and economics. So its not a real MMO, its just a fun game for some of you, with everything really bad, but with tiny good aspects. Well, therefore, the game is bad...

See? Thats not because YOU liked that makes this thing good. When I say ´its bad´ its because the ´common sense´ (As far as I know the common sense on MMO, and believe me, I have been around a long time) says that the game is bad. As it was told above, even the die hard fans tell this, that the game is bad.

    Starting today (official launch)...

    Comprehensive Port Battle Guide

PotBS is classified as an RvR MMORPG. In order to “win the map” members of a nation work together to achieve victory points. Points are acquired by controlling ports and by capturing ports.

    Capturing a Port

When an NPC or player is defeated within a certain radius (believed to be 40-50 miles, maximum) of its closest affiliated port a number of points is added to the contention point total. This number can be viewed by opening your mini map and changing the tab to show PvP areas. The number of points can vary depending on a) the number of players in the group and b) the level of the NPC(s) or Player(s). Players who take part in building contention points against a port gain personal contention points.

    Pirate PvP

A red circle appears on the map, with the contested port in the center, once the contention points reach 6,000. Pirate PvP signifies an area wherein Pirates and Privateers with the skill “Sanctioned Piracy” my initiate combat against other players.

    Full PvP

Once the number of contention points reaches 8,000 points the Pirate PvP area is given a wider radius and what was the Pirate PvP area becomes a Full PvP zone. The Pirate PvP area is the same as described above, but inside of the Full PvP zone any player of any nation can attack any player of another nation.

    Flipping a Port

Now that the contention point total has reached 10,000 points, a port battle is scheduled for 24 hours later at the contested port and the port’s contention points are reduced to 0. The PvP zones will remain until the port battle has been resolved. Players who have personal contention points are entered into a lottery for invites to participate. The higher the number of personal contention points you have, the greater your chances to participate are. Players may still gain contention points once a port has flipped. Regular contention points gained after the port has been flipped can allow for strategic advantages for the port battle such as modified wind directions and alternate starting spawn points.

    Quote:

You'll be able to see what bonuses you've earned through NPCs in the ready room sometime before R1.

Leading Up to the Port Battle

32 minutes before a scheduled port battle a warning is broadcast to all players stating that invites will be sent out in 17 minutes. Players should have their port battle ship selected, outfitted, and armed at this point. It does not matter where you are in order to take your invite (in a different port, on the open sea, etc), just as long as you have the right ship you should be good to go. Once the 2 minute window of opportunity has passed, players who took their invites will find themselves in a ready room to discuss strategy and form groups. The timer will go down and players will be asked to zone into the map, or be kicked from the ready room.

    Resolving the Port Battle

The attacker wins by defeating all defenders. The defender has the same victory condition. If the attacker is unable to locate / defeat all of the defenders, the attacker may instead destroy both gun emplacements on the map which starts a 30 minute timer. When the timer reaches 0, the attacker and defender may leave their ships to enter the Town. The attacker is also granted an alternate victory condition to defeat the 4 Lieutenants and then the Garrison Commander inside.

As the attacker, destroying one of the gun emplacements enables them to land within the Fort (please note this is NOT the same as the Town). The fort has no bearing whatsoever on the victory conditions for either side, but it will shoot the attacker as long as the Lieutenant inside is alive. The defender may enter the Fort from a side entrance at any time.

When a player is sunk in their ship, they lose 1 point of durability on it. If a player is defeated in avatar combat within the Fort or Town, no durability is lost.

At the end of it all someone will win and the port will no longer be the center of a PvP zone. If the attacker wins, then they gain control of the port and the defender must pay extra taxes when producing goods. Should the defender win, the port will remain in their control so taxes will remain low. If the port was originally controlled by Pirates OR if Pirates are the ones who win the port, the port will revert back to its original control after 36 hours.

In this game you WILL get killed and you WILL lose something worth a shit (unlike WoW - what a carebear game..).

This game will be hardcore. Territory controlled realm based PvP mmorps always are...killed or be killed..hehe

Anyway again check this game out if your looking for something very challenging, with great PvP, and a superb economy engine/system (perhaps one of the best I have seen since UO).

    :D
