Some type of blocking from either the npcs or the players, I dont care if its twitch based or not but they need blocking.
Everytime I watch a video for the game the combat looks so fluid with the strikes and the movement but it falls on deaf ears because the enemy nor the player blocks any of the incoming attacks, they just take it.
I think if they are going for not just a realistic game but also even a fun game then need some sort of blocking to make the combat look more fluid.

O and just incase this offends anyone, Im still getting the game, it doesnt look like a "Game breaking" element or anything i think its just something that would be the icing on the cake, and make the combat complete.

I agree.
Combat animations look excellent. BUT on other hand people just stand and receive damage.
Looks very bad.
Another thing is that damage happens even if you are not really facing the opponent , and FATALITY moves that need determined distance and facing are often executed from further away. This makes player model animation teleport player to right position in order to do FATALITY animation. Or the animation does not connect at all. Looks both great and horrible ...
I think it could be fixed by /stuck facing in combat ...
But we debated that allready and most people do not agree...
What you guys are requesting is coming in the next-gen MMO's.
Well, maybe some of the stuff Lobo's talking about is next gen, but DAOC has both Block and Parry moves, with separate animations for both. In fact, tanks can block attacks against squishy casters by putting protect on them.

i don't think AoC is actually done yet. u know, like, completed? like if your highschool teacher started marking the final exam your writing like 20 minutes b4 the allowed time is up and, like, then started running around yelling at every1 that you, like, failed and that your gonna be a waste of skin for the, like, rest of your life. that would suck i think.
yeah wtf...
a lot of games have animations for say Dodge, Parry, Missed, Block, etc
Havent yall seen the leaps that you can do? you use those to evade attacks, and im almost certain i saw some blocking in a vid.
Dont worry its all realtime its just the guys playing that suck.
Like WTF?
We well have to wait and see in game for ourselves, the only problem i have with the whole leaping deal, is it just doesnt give you a feeling of tenseion that a block or a parry does. It looks cool dont get me wrong and im sure it will be great at first but the real tension in battle comes from parries or blocks.
Look at any great fantasy movie for example, since its the most popular let say lord of the rings. In the final fight with mordor aragon is seen mainy times clashing swords and have to shove the enemy off just to get his barrings. This is exciting, it shows more of a conflict within a conflict of a story, I think the same thing should be done with MMO's.
When I played SWG alot of the reson i didnt like it was the fact that there was no parry animation for sword weildiers. Which I later found out was a bug that made its way from Beta through launch and still exsists today im sure (Dont know wouldnt go back haha) . Point is i used a pistol and it was a sci-fi mmo so i let it slide.
So heres to hoping they put it in, if not im sure ill still play the games for a many many months, but i feel this is just one of those things a fantasy MMO shouldnt be without.

Jive? Dentarg?
I seen a video where a player is getting attacked from behind and he ducks. So they have 'ducking' animations, seems like it wouldnt be too difficult to add blocking animations at some point. But then again, if your attacked at your right side, and then the shield gets raised to the left......could get hairy.
I think if they could get down a blocking system at any point it would boost this game up ten fold in the combat department.
I just saw a recent leaked beta vid where it was o so apparent that a blocking animation or even ability would have made everything look alot more in depth and outa sight.

Devs stated over the weekend event that shield blocking and movement already is ingame.

Cool. That just boosted the game tenfold
I thought AoC was supposed to be a next generation MMO.
i'm not 100% positive but i seem to remember reading many interviews and info involving blocking animations not included however the directing one faces corrilates to how much damage you recieve. Turn to sheild side and recieve less damage. Seems like that is a half-way solution. If i am right on this and this little ajustment improves framerate i would eaily except it. (movement away from an opponents cone of attack has always been implemented in the game, a manual parry)
