Honestly I think most of this boils down to poor community management. We'll know the content eventually so it's not a huge deal, if it turns out to be crap just take the game back, but I agree it could have been managed much better.
I know however that you're doing yourself a great disservice, because there isn't anything better on the market either now or in the foreseeable future - WAR included. Disclaimer: Yes that's a totally subjective observation and others might disagree and that's allowed.
Dude, that is just silly to say that. You haven't played, either, and if you have you just broke NDA. Not that I would believe you, mind you.
We can only wait and see. The only hype from this game seems to be boobs. Sorry, but I've never really had an interest in animated boobs. I hope its a good game, because this genre is seriously lacking.
If boobs is the only hype you've taken notice of then you're more interested in boobs then you like to think.
Funcom would be wise to note other games that have rushed their releases. Sure you can cut content and features if you’re getting close to the deadline, but it will do you no good to patch it in if your first impressions have cost you a player base. Take Vanguard for example. That may be an extreme example but an example nonetheless. It's really time for these game developers to take note and stop trying to pilfer off bullsh*t to us gamers. We're a little bit smarter than you think. On another note, we gamers shouldn't be so quick to give these guys our money. We're almost as bad as a cheap whore, tossing our money at every P.O.S MMO that comes along. We're helping to fueling developer’s decisions to release crap. We need to be a little more reserved with our money.
Not to mention Fury. A horrible first impression has Fury gasping for breath. Vanguard got spanked real bad but managed to limp away. Developers got to learn that people today want a game with minimal bugs.
If you promised something at launch then it better be in the game at launch. I guess Lotro set the new standard with their low bug launch, and I agree with Kemplar we have got to be careful with our money.
Although chances are that Aoc most likely won't have a bad launch anywhere near as bad as Fury and Vanguard did.
Good questions and like everybody else I want to know the answers. To answer your question about is the game worth the 90 dollars for the CE....I'd strongly encourage you to not buy the CE. There is too much in the air right now with AoC to invest that kind of cash. But, I'd definatly recommend getting the standard version and if the game goes to pot real quick then you're not out all that much money. I for one will be waiting a while after release on this one. Too many unanswered questions and lack of structure for me to buy into it right from the get go. The CE is typically for those over zealous fanbois that follow games, but if you have the money and think AoC is going to be the best MMO ever then by all means go for it, but I recommend on not doing so.

Actually, after discussing with a friend working in a gamestore, he said there's lots of folks preordering the CE even if they don't have a computer that can actually even run the game (or even a computer at all). They just do it cos they've been reading comics and books by Robert E. Howard and like to have the soundtrack, map and artbook etc.
If they game would actually be another VG, I don't think the CEs were a bad idea from FunCom anyway. Depending on the amount they release these into markets, there is a good chance the CEs aren't going to be collecting dust in stores for long.
And besides, it's around 68€. That doesn't sound so bad. You spend that same amount in one friday evening into booze or whatever.
This might come of as negative, but I dare any DEV, not moderator, but DEV to come on and engage in a healthy debate about the state of the game and PROOF ME WRONG. Give me the reasons I should preorder for 90 bucks for a collectors edition?
What is in the game? What is not? What is delayed? What is a maybe?
FC you promised us the world of hyboria - a brutal mmo? Is it still there?
Let us know !!!
Draccan
oh, com'on! Who are we to ask questions and doubt almighty devs? Sheep are supposed to blindly follow and buy and buy and buy.
This whole thread is ridicilous! Almost EVERY big title has pre-order, almost EVERY BIG title has a Collector's Edition.
What wild assumptions we have here about the state of the game! Seriously don't you have better things to do than to write this? For the love of God, just wait it out like the rest of us...
Just as OP I have (almost) the same feelings about the lack of recent information about AoC, and the fact that it was supposed to be out half a year ago does not exactly help. Since there is such a huge hype surrounding the game it is only natural that people are curious about it's state and progress.
Thank you Howardb for reposting that information, it made me feel a little better, however it will take more to cure my worries, and I do find it strange that Funcom does not provide regular official updates (as vague as those might be). Call me paranoid.
Especially now with the CE offers avalible some of us could use more details to help us decide if it is worth investing in.
seriously...do you think avery is going to say whats bad about the game. Not to be a jerk, but he seems like AoC's #1 fanbois....i honestly can't say i would judge his opinion. (no offence.. but fanbois are always willing to look past the bad parts of the game, no matter how big or how small...i know...i used to be a SWG fanbois :P )

NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs

Check out the new Age of Conan developer blog here on mmorpg.com and take some of those "it won't be released because I feel ..." questions there?
See you in Hyboria - soon!!
