Setting the camera

ElgarLElgarL Member UncommonPosts: 191

Is there any way to configure a decent chase camera? One so I'm not constantly adjusting it to see where I'm going?

I hate camera controls on the mouse unless I'm playing an FPS. But having to press the mouse button to adjust the camera is a royal pain. I want to set the camera position behind me and have it follow me, adjusting for the slope of the land.

Huh? You're having to what?  I think you just don't understand how to use the camera.

Press and hold down the right mouse button. That will turn the camera. If you press and hold the right and left mouse buttons, you can change your characters movement forward (your character will move forward and the camera will move with him). The camera is always behind you unless you've moved into a tight space or you tell it to be otherwise. The middle scroll mouse button will allow you to zoom in and out to any distance as you'd like by scrolling the wheel.

I know how the camera/mouse works. You don't seem to understand what I'm saying.

I'm fed up with having to press the left mouse button and adjust the camera up and down every single time the landscape changes it's incline. Climb up on an obstacle and you have to adjust to see up where you are going, Climb down and you have to adjust to look down. Hit the flats and you have to adjust yet again to see straight.

Running across undulating hills and you may as well keep the mouse key down as you will constantly be adjusting the camera.

In Asheron's Call the camera auto adjusted to the slope of the landscape. If you were running up a hill or down, it didn't matter. The camera adjusted to the slope of the land. The same in Irth Online and Guild Wars (I think).

You still had the ability to adjust the camera yourself but the mundane task of adjusting it for every single bump or hill was done automatically.

EverQuest1 had that camera option too I believe

EQ2 is mouse driven as far as I know --- F9 only toggles between 1st and 3rd person

That's a bummer then. Looks like I'll not be subbing at the end of the trial.

It's just way too annoying adjusting the camera every 3 seconds or so. Everything else seems fine, just the camera is too annoying.

Every 3 seconds or so? Since when? I wish all games had as great a camera as this one does. I'm not sure what your problem is.

If you're not subbing because of the camera, thats your problem. I rarely ever have my camera view movie unless I choose to so I'm not sure what the heck you're doing.

It doesn't do what you want.  The game is designed to be controled like an FPS.  WASD to move and right button mouselook.  If you are trying to run around using cursor keys you are just going to be frustrated and have to adjust the view constantly.   There are parts of the game I don't even think you can use cursor keys for like climbing cliffs etc.  You would probably fall to your death.

Ultimately you gotta use the games UI and if you can't adapt to it then you probably won't enjoy the game.

Normally you won't adjust the camera every 3 sec you adjust it constantly since you use mouselook constantly when you more.

i never have liked WASD movement

I use the Cursor keys for moving everywhere in EQ2

    including climbing walls

the EQ2 camera doesnt bother me at all and I like the camera

I like WASD movement. It's my prefered method of control. However, I really dislike using the mouse for UI AND for camera control.

If this were designed like a true FPS you'd not need right click for camera movement, and that would be fine. Any mouse movement would adjust the camera. Making it dual use is what's annoying.

    In my opinion.
