I was really excited about this game but as time has worn on my enthusiasm has waned greatly. I don't want to get my expectation up only to have them dashed. If they have a pre-order headstart I will likely be there and then determine if I want to stay. I'm not likely to try logging in the first day even with Mythic's past successes. The potential audience size for this game will simply make day 1 a hell no matter how well prepared EA is.
If you miss out on launch day, you miss out on the atmosphere, which is always fun. Sure, it may be buggy/laggy/crashy, but that is all part of the experience. I find it fun, to be honest. No, this is not me saying a crappy game is okay, and I hope the launch is problem-free, but I forgive early jitters and try to enjoy it. Plus, there is always that feeling of being there at the beginning, and there are usually some good stories that come out of it.
I definetly agree here..
So Day 1 it is, of either Pre-Launch (if they got one) or Regular Launch.
If I can't get into beta to test it. I will wait a couple of weeks before I decide to buy. I need to read reviews. But I may still get it on day one if the NDA is released early and the beta testers come forward and say it is a good game.
i was there day one on WoW though the server i picked was naff, so i went to one of the newer servers (zenedar EU) after about a week or 2 after release and it was like day one again was crazy for spawns and kill steals but was rather fun at that, new game with 0 politics and just running round bashing the hell out of mobs ... low level raids to enemy capitals ahh the fun we had, so for this game that i have been anticipating for so much longer then i did wow, i wouldnt miss day one / early access for anything,
Having lived through EQ2 from day 1 I will be waiting several months to see if the hype is worth it and that the significant bugs are fixed. Sure I'm not saying that WAR will re-write all their classes 6mths after release like EQ2 did but it is safe to say there will be issues...
Nothing takes the fun out of a game as beta testing it while you pay 20 dollars a month!
I share the same feeling as the majority of this thread (and lets dare to say the majority of WAR future players), I'll be there day one.
And my reason is that I actually was hoping to get my hands on WAR after being away for nearly a year working abroad with almost no way near a computer with an internet connection - so I missed out a lot of news, from the dev teams updates, podcasts, to the release date, beta sign up...
So imagine this: me all excited to see WAR released at my coming back and actually learn that it's gonna be out 2nd quarter of this year!
Well it's for a good purpose and cause but they better be ready at lauch day!
Some people, I'm not one of them, have this thing about names.
I don't know what the rules on choosing names will be in WAR, but whatever they are it's usually first come first serve.
So if you want to be George, not George1, or Jorge, or GeorgeQ, you get on day one.
It doesn't have to be "George", it could be Killmaster, or Napoleon Dynamite, Trixie, or whatever.
Then you jump from server to server, and make characters so you can get the names you want, before anyone else does. If they do allow a name like "Chocolate" and for some reason you want that as your name, then you have to be the first person to claim it.
For example, let's say they allow you to name your toon Chocolate, then you might go to each server and make a toon named Chocolate. Then, whichever server you decide to play on, you will have a character with your favorite name, before anyone else gets it.
Anyways that's what I've seen some people do on new servers. I usually just hit the random name maker till I get something that doesn't suck.
But, I'm gonna go day one. What the heck. If the server crashes, then it crashes.

For the next Mythic game?
Day one.
DAoC launch was very good.
So, they get the benefit of the doubt.
Other than E&B, I have no experience with EA as participent.
And while E&B, as a game, was not to my taste, did not have any trouble with the EA part of it.
So, will also give them the benefit of the doubt.

DAoC had a great launch and I was there Day One.
I give Mythic the benefit of the doubt and will be ready to play on Day One.

Day 1 of release. I hardly have time to play with work and my newborns so have to take as much as time I can get.

Guild Wars 2 is my religion

day 1 for sure. Eve has taught me to be patient with patches/launchers ect for sure
I'm hopeful that Mythic can repeat the DAOC launch - which was so incredibly smooth.
Even if they can't, I'll be there - saving my stable of names !
