Satellite Internet Playability?

KRILE0NKRILE0N Member UncommonPosts: 299

Please don't inform me of how crappy satellite internet or that I should change to something else. I know it's not great and I can't change due to where I live. I also don't need children telling me to move, because it's not a simple process and anyone that suggests such a thing just for internet then i'll clearly know your maturity and that you aren't a homeowner.. so please spare me the annoyances.

Now on to topic. Is anyone in beta or played beta using satellite internet.

I don't want details of the game nor do you have to state you are in beta.. I do not wish to void your agreement.

All I wish to know is if the game is playable on satellite.. as in as playable as WOW or EQ2.

I know the game is no longer real time combat from what i've heard. So I became interested in AoC again.

So can anyone please tell me how it is? Thank you.

It is real time combat but it's been stated that the game plays fine with up to a 500 ping. Hope that helps gl.

Satellite internet is crappy, and you should change to something else. I'm not a child, so I can tell you to move ;).

    Sorry, couldn't help myself.

    Anyways,

With the NDA up, no one is allowed to answer your question. And I doubt Funcom would have used it at any of the conventions either. Funcom has said they have worked to make their engine worth with 500ms pings using a hidden action queue system, so it might be ok.

Your best hope is to get into beta and find out for yourself. Good luck with that, we're all wanting in :).

Hmm satellite runs at 1 second delay. I average at 900ms to 1second or sometimes more.

Guess AoC is out of the question. Thanks.

Also if someone is playing on dial-up and works fine then it would for me as well.

    Anyway, thanks.

IMHO, I bet you could do the PvE parts just fine, but I suspect you'd either be at a huge disadvantage or huge advantage (probably the former) in PvP combat.

Yeah hellgate works perfectly for me. I get 800ms and I do fine in PVP and PVE.

So I hope AoC does well. I guess i'll wait and see what peoples responses is on release.

Thank you everyone for the help. If anyone has anymore to add please do.

    It's rather silly that I don't have dsl/cable available.

so sill that i'm 3 miles to far from cable and 5 miles to far from dsl. How aggivating is that.. VERY.. lol!

Hopefully i'll have it soon, but who knows.. for now i'm stuck with satellite saddly, but hey it's better then dial-up where i'd disconnected 100 times a day.
