Eve is not something you can pick up and play and expect to be a god at. It takes time. And in that time the fun factor develops and the complexity increases.
In other words, it takes a year of subscribing before it becomes interesting to truly dedicated people.  If you want fun out of the box...  Well.. Umm...

Click and wait combat has been obsolete for a while now.  Jumpgate Evolutionis aiming for the flight sim vibe, we will see if it is any good.

here again is the difference between new school MMO'rs and old school MMO'rs. Newschool wants super uber best of the best in a month straight out of the box, its all about the instant gratification.

Old school gamers, on the other hand, know that the harder you work for something the sweeter it is when the job is done, not only that but they tend to understand that its not the destination thats important in an MMO, its the journey there.

Perhaps hard work, commitment, and dedication to an MMO like EVE isnt for you, its not for everyone, but at least lets not act like because you arent pleased, its not a quality product.

That was very well said. Many current games are geared to casual players and that's fine. WoW is proof the masses like this fare which some of us most certainly do not. To compare a game like this with its richness and depth, to a Carebears in Disneyland experience like WoW is like comparing apples and oranges. WoW and games of its kind are nice for busy adults, very young children, those with short attention spans or limited playtimes or both and all manner of casual gamers in between. They do not satisfy anyone looking for something more than MMO-lite. There is no basis for comparison beyond the most basic things they have in common: they are both computer games and they both are multiplayer and they both charge a monthly fee to play. The similarities pretty much end right there.

This is why, faults and all you still see people clinging to old worlds like Britannia, Norrath and Dereth because for all thier faults these games at least offered some real depth, challenge, social interdependence and as such a hell of a lot of fun. Yes, they are old. Yes, you can find lots of faults with each one of them. Yes, I need to include Dark Age of Camelot in this short list. I should probably include Anarchy Online here as well.

Eve is probably the only current success that could be counted in the same league as the greats mentioned above. I hope Tabula Rasa can grow up to become something of this caliber but that remains to be seen.

While I am on a roll here, I give NCsoft credit for giving us comic book heroes and bad guys in a MMO-lite that is very well done and fun to play without requiring large time commitments. Personally, I think those games get casual right far moreso than WoW ever will since it's a dumbed down EQ with time-sinks galore for a casual game, etc. Blizzard are no fools though. If they distilled WoW down to its purest essence players would have won and been done before the 30 free days ended in Azeroth. As it is, that is possible easily for the hardcore right now, expansion and all. 10 days played to "win"?

It's funny how the largest Massively Multiplayer game under the sun is so solo oriented isn't it?

Whatever floats yer boat I guess.

    He who hesitates is lost.

Yeah EVE is more of a virtual world than most MMOs.  If you're fixated on the point and click combat, then I don't know what to tell you.  EVE's combat is centered around PvP, and that is definitely not click orbit, click your weapons and see what happens (because if you do that, you're gonna die, hehe).  But the PvP combat is only one part of EVE.  It's just as much a political simulator and an economic simulator, all based on what you want to do, what you can get away with, and so forth, in the virtual world.  It's an incredibly well done game, despite its obvious limitations.

Yup when i played all i ended up doing was logging on to train skills and not actually playing the game so i thought to myself "why am i paying for a skill trainer?" lol but it's all my 2 mates do that play too and they just pay ISK for a subscription so doesn't bother them too much i guess.
I put hard work, dedication, and whatnot into my job and my family, not video games. When I pay for a video game, I expect it to be fun, not a chore.
Dont take it the wrong way friend, but as i see it now after your thread about "dedicated pve server" got flamed you seem to be on a crusade to troll this section of forums. Get over it and move on.
I am entertained by people playing a video game and feeling "elite" about it, or thinking that "achieving" something in a video game is anything to brag about. This board has such a strange slice of delusion, it is interesting to see in action. It sort of reminds me of a buch of people playing "EXTREME" rock paper scissors. "The first rule of extreme rock-paper-scissors is that we don't talk about extreme rock-paper-scissors.!" Video games are cheap entertainment, on par with TV. Don't lose sight of that fact. If you are going to put long term dedication into something, put it into something real.
That speaks to any diversion, any MMO. We're very fond of this game and a great many of us found your suggestions unacceptable. However it was a most interesting debate. But as far as any diversion, yes, it must be done in moderation (something I lack at times )

No offense mate, but as person who plays both, I have to say WoW has vastly more depth to it that Eve ever will.

Don't kid yourself. Eve is an old game, and it's a comparatively small one.

Such a great argument! Backed up by all sorts of facts and stuff.

At this point you're just trolling. *blocked*

Sounds like you were expecting it to be a flight sim, well it's not, not even close.

Check out Jumpgate Evolution, its slated to be released Q4 of this year, and is probably more what you are looking for.
