Pally, Fighter, or Barb

Which is the best tank? I have a level 2 Fighter that I like, but I don't know how to build him, and I didnt customize his stats.

I want to Reroll and possibly do a better build. Any suggestions?

LOL!  You're gonna get a TON of different answers on this TD.  For one, there's a large portion of the population that believes "AC means nothing"...I'm not one of them, btw.  Personally, my best performing character is a true DPS 14th level fighter ATM, with my 10 paladin/2 rogue/2 fighter a close second.

I'd read some of the builds on the main forum and see what strikes you, and really just try some out for yourself!

This is one of the hardest things for me in DDO is figuring out how to build your character. I am not at all familar with D&D ruleset, past or present. I do think my bard is done wrong. So I switched to a pally. I don't play much anymore due to college but still have active sub just hard to test builds when no time to play.

What are your thoughts on dragonmarks? I gave up a feat whatever it is called to train one.

As stated, there are many opinions.

A good tank will need AC and hitpoints.  Regardless of what's believed, AC *is* important.  Those who think AC is not important are the ones who force clerics into being nothing more then heal-bots.

Keep in mind that if you're going to tank you need to get and hold agro.  Intimidate is awesome as well with a high Damage Resistence.  There's nothing better then to use intimidation to grab all the mobs agro and watch them swing away without being able to land a hit on you.

Paladins have tremendous potential as a tank.  Keep in mind, if you're going for a high Intimidate and AC you're likely to have minimal damage potenial.  Even then, kill counts don't mean shit in DDO and it's all about the groups success rather then who killed what - bragging rights can be fun though.  ;)

DPS is just that, damage.  You can build a vareity of fotm's for DPS and not be limited to any specific class.  For the most part, the dps-fotm's are presented as best case scenarios.

At the end of the quest it boils down to playstyle and not character build when determining success.

Yep, Wonderfully (I almost said sadly) in DDO there is no "this is how you build a tank" answer.  There's probably 3 dozen ways you could build one, if not more.

Hell, one of the best characters I know is a battle bard, bard with some fighter levels tossed in.

I would say, as long as your character is viable and accomplishing the task, keep playing it and learning the system and then try something else later.

    Check the forums.

To be able to give a better opinion you would really need to define "Tank" better for me, do you mean it in the traditional "role" sense? (i.e. a High AC melee that holds aggro) Or in the DDO sense of just meaning any melee class?

In the traditional sense check the Paladin & Fighter forums, there is a good one Paladin forums (by Dworkin I think) that is I believe 7/7 Paladin/Fighter to take advantage of Aura enhancements and Fighters Armor mastery. Also check out Riot's IntimiTank Build and Borr0s Intimitank builds on the Fighter forums.

One piece of important information if going the IntimiTank route, these builds (as with all defencive builds) are very gear intensive if you plan on running Elite quests.

If you want to go DPS route it's pretty darned hard to mess up ye old standard Dwarf Barbarian. If you are not too used to playing melees stick with some of the simpler builds first. DPS builds are generally easier  to build and play than other melee builds, max str put a lot into con and learn how to not pull more aggro than you can handle.
