I fully understand them pushing back the release date but from what I can tell they are yet to fix sliding on the ground. I know this is recent because it is direct footage from their booth at CES and it appears that when you run up to attack someone you run up, swing your sword, then slide the whole way to the person you are attacking. I personally believe that is the biggest issue they are working on.

This is caused by the Client being unable to stay in-sync with the Server. Another symptom is 'Rubber-Banding' and 'Warping'.
It is what I feared would happen.
It is a sign that the systems are overstretched to manage and render the required information. I cannot imagine what it will be like under full server load if it is not dealt with.
AoC needs a set of fully open to the public Stress Test sessions.
i was just typing that /grumble.
Not really, why becuase if it is happening in-house and not under load, then stress testing will do nothing. Why becuase they already know that there will be sliding. It more likely part of the current code they don't know how to get rid of, or cannot because of time and the amount of work involved.

lol, do you really think that an animation bug is high on there list ?
Get real.
actually you'd be suprised how many people will not buy a game if it has sliding everytime you some to attack
Well they can give everyone Gloves and Bats with their new MLB game...
Is there skating in cheetah 2 and the latest build?
I havent seen much in the vid's, and it has not really been mentioned by the folks from CES or who went to Oslo this past week. Take that for what it is worth though, it may be less, not as noticeable, or completely gone.
I think we'll have a better idea when the next round of gameplay video's come out, hopefully we see some of those soon.
Nothing new here, it happend constantly in Anarchy Online Funcoms other MMORPG.
I knew stuff like this would carry over when the announced that they would be using a 'UPDATED' verson of the Anarchy Online gaming engine...Now to see if things like extreme lag when you have big PVP battles will be carrying over as well. To be honest I would be shocked if AOC's big PVP battles were not a Lagmare like it was in AO when I played.
Bottom line is that they should have licenced a outside gaming engine not that crap tastic inhouse one they 'UPGRADED'...

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
I agree, they need an open beta to stress test the game. But I think they are scared of what will happen if they do.
This game has large pvp as a central theme of the game. If such a core element fails do to technical limitations of the game engine, then we have a problem which most likely will be game breaking unfortunately.
A well performing game is not optional for success, it is absolutely necessary.
Why would the SERVER RENDER anything? Servers don't render... your PC Renders. Render is a graphics term.
Seeing as I've beta tested quite a few MMO's.. Typicaly, Server connectivity is the LAST thing corrected. Nothing new here. Sorry to break up this DOOM and GLOOM post.
Where theres an MMO theres a DOOM and GLOOM POST.

Pardon me, but I don't see where you managed to 'break up' anything. All you've done is get snotty because the OP didn't expressly state that rendering is a client-side operation. His original thesis still stands, rubber-banding and warping are caused by client and server being out of synch. Whether these are actually related to the problem with the animation timing is another matter.
Too bad graphical glitches are not the only problem the game has.
From a few beta testers I have spoken to it seems that the game has as many game breaking bugs as Vanguard did at release.
Hopefully they can fix most or all of them with the extra few months.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Care to explain what these "game-breaking" bugs consist of or should we just take your word for it?
You are correct. I may be one of them. Imagine big combat scenerios where the animation is on ice. No thank you. I really hope they fix this before release.
Well according to Avery - I think it was - the skating is gone in the latest build they tried on the Oslo-event. Check out his stage6 video where he was raiding a dungeon.
That is what I would do also. Also if someone wanted to know about that bug, someone may have asked Avery before he left, and could very well be answered in one of his future posts, which should be coming soon.

Maybe?
Gonna be fix.....?
Just curious....
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

My point still stands. Connectivity is a MINOR issue, thats left till after al Optomization is done. NORMALY anyway.
So the OP didn't have any clue as to what the servers actualy do. The OP thinks that minor connectivity problems are devastatingly problematic.
We're TALKING about a game thats NOT EVEN patched up to the current build. Your talking about a client that was put up 8 months ago; THATS 12 MONTHS befor it releases. Pardon me if I don't think Minor connectivity issues are serious. If that was even the worse problem after release I'd still be excited.
What they showed at CES is the same client we're seeing in Videos from 8 months ago. I'm sure they could waste of few days trying to update the client here and there, on a piece meal basis, but instead they're steadly working on the client. No they haven't put out dozens of new beta clients, but that doesn't mean they didnt fix bugs in their newest client which isn't released to beta yet.
Looks like they still have a lot of work and i dont see this game being released not even close to the estimated. Said that is the rule for MMOs, they are always wrong about timing. I know theres too many things to consider and its hard work but thats not an excuse.
If they weren't confident they could release in May, why not push it 3 months? or 4? Why only bump it 2 months? 2 Months is NOTHING in compairison to how often and far back MMO's get Pushed off the release dates estimates...

Read more carefuly. I did not say the SERVERS were rendering. Of course, it is the Clients that are doing the rendering. But if the load on the Client GPU and CPU is such that they must do to much work to keep up with slower than expected Client / Server communications, you get Lag, RB, Warp, and Slide.Make all the excuses you want, Fan-Boy, but AoC has been delayed, there is still no Open Beta, there is still no Stress Test. And that is NOT a good sign.

My guess is that would be bad coding rather than load with regards to client side effects. These things exist in ALL mmo's some games just hide it better. WoW for example is excellent at covering up poor sync, but run 2 games side by side and see just how effective it is at hiding it.

I do hope they fix the sliding problems as much as I would love the game I can't stand games with avatars sliding on rough terrain as if they're on sheets of ice.... aka like in LOTRO during beta.
