you can only hold the carrot on the stick in front of the horse so long..

Unfounded release dates have been spouted off a few times now I think we are to use what smarts we have to see that the next release date is no different.
They clearly don't have a great knowledge in
1) What problems exist
and/or
2) What problems they want fixed before launch
and/or
3) How long it will take to fix 2)
I suppose they could be holding the carrot close enough to make us follow long enough (i.e. they realized the release date was more than a year away, but knew people wouldn't continue following unless they said "7 months more", "5 months more", "2 months more", ).. but id rather not consider that too seriously because as you all know you can only hold the carrot on the stick in front of the horse so long..

but on the plus side, this last delay inspired me to look for a different game and obsess over that while i wait (instead of just glooming or else inspiring the boards all the time - so be thankful)

Hmmm...9 out of 10 for an original Title for the thread.
Unfortunately, the contents are rather disappointing. Really, why do you start a new thread for this? There's about 6 or 7 threads out there with the same topic. *smirk*
As for the carrot....Myeelf, I am ignoring it and happily doing other things while I wait till launch. At which time I will play the game and have fun (or not, but I don't hope that, ne? ^^).

Life is a big carrot on the stick.
You want to get out of that pandora box? Just live each moment with what exist NOW, and stop waiting for a better future.
My life is so much better now that i'm not waiting for anything, games included.
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
I take a longer view of these games as I've aged. All that matters to me is that the game is FUN to play when I buy it. When it comes out doesn't matter to me.
Some people obsess over graphics and stuff like that. Not me. Make a good game in 4 color CGA mode and I'd play it. Heck, I love text based MUD's. I'm after the fun, not the "ooh ahh" factor of graphics (which wears off in about 5 minutes).
If the horse is so dumb that the only thing it's planning on eating is the carrot dangled in front of it's face it deserves to starve. Ignore the carrot and go feed yourself.
When it comes out, I'll play it. If it sucks, I'll stop. Simple as that.

Here's a classical whine-post I have problems with taking serious.
" They clearly don't have a great knowledge in

and/or
2) What problems they want fixed before launch
and/or
3) How long it will take to fix 2)"
This post could've been constructive if you told us why you thought this was the problem and how you think they should fix it. As it stands now it's just a lot bullshit brought here to put AoC down. Are you here to spread negativity perhaps?
Let me ask you 3 questions:
1) What problems - in your opinion - exists?
2) What problems do you think they should fix before launch?
3) How long do you think it'll take to fix?
If you can't answer those questions how can you say they don't know the answer to them? I think you're just here to troll, but of course feel free to prove me wrong.
1) They don't have an exhaustive understanding of what problems exist
2) They don't know what problems they want fixed before lanch
3) They don't know how long it will actually take to fix 2)
Those are the three possibilites for explaining why they continue to put new release dates out.
The only other possible explanation is they do know how long it would take, they're just intentionally misleading us by saying "5months" or "2months" when they know its much longer. But I don't really consider that, instead I think its a mixture of all three.
---
For your own reasons you want me to tell you what I think the problems actually are, but that wouldn't help explain the delays (since I don't have control over them).
If I did have control over the delays, then what I thought the problems actually were would matter because that would directly effect how long I thought it would take to fix said problems. But since I don't, you questions are moot.
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
You just wrote up a list of universal development problems for every game that has been made and will be made the next 50 years. It's like saying "the problem with water is that it's wet".
