I've leveled a fighter to 2 almost 3, and just started a Pally (that I customized myself). I'm having issues understanding how to build a character. I have 0 DnD backround aside from a little bit of Neverwinter Nights that I played 5 years ago so this is all Greek to me.
Any resources I can look through to understand better? I went to the main site and looked at builds, but they made no sense to me and involved items I don't have and tomes that I don't have.
Also, people keep saying that you can level to max without ever repeating a quest, but at 2 I am running out of places to go. I did all of the harbor stuff (save for waterworks because I tried it solo and that was a no go) and I just completed the ones at the little pub in the harbor. Where should I be questing?

Well first, there's 2 taverns in the harbor with quests...but don't try to solo everything. Waterworks is a must, it opens up the other 90% of Stormreach for you LOL!
That said, DDO wiki has become a pretty darn good reference for starting out

Three pubs total in the harbor. I would make my way to the leaky dingy (sp?) or the wayward lobster.
One quest I highly recommend and which you will probably have to do a lot of times is Durks Got A Secret. That quest has a chance for Muck to be up and that blob drops a muckbane. Save you a ton in having to repair and buy blunt items. That muckbane cuts through blobs like butter. Just sadly the muckbane is a rare drop but highly worth it for future quests. Pick up this quest at the Leaky Dingy, the floating pub above the water.
Once you get to level 3 you can probably group up and do waterworks in the harbor which will grant you access to the inner part of the city "without" having to pay the guard at the gate gold. Plus you get some REALLY nice items finishing waterworks. Just tell the group you're new so they won't rush it for you.
As for builds, I'm no good in that area as well.

I made a rogue just because haha. Loving it through the teeth. I got questions. Are rogues suppose to dual wield? Or are they better with weapon shield?
Are daggers good for rogues to fit the RP style or are they junk in DDO?
What about Dragonmarks? Any good for a rogue? What would would be good to give up to get one?

Lots of rogues do use dual wield, mine did and I loved it for the extra DPS, or even better dual wielding stat damaging weapons.
You'll see a LOT of rogues using rapiers because of the damage and crit numbers...particularly the holy grail wounding rapier of puncturing...nasty, nasty sword
Honestly, I'm pretty clueless on dragonmarks, haven't had one yet at all!
Don't know if its still a viable build, but i had an 8/2 Pally/sorc. Very fun build at the time, all around wand use. A couple of extra useful spells.
Also a good build i had was an 8/2 Rogue/Ranger. Had alot of fun with this one too.
Thanks Randd. I suck at all these rules and multiclass would be something I'd have no idea what to do with. I'll keep that in mind, appreciate the advice.
I forgot to ask when can rogues train dual wield?

Dont remember about pure rogues. Reason i did the 8/2 r and r was at 2nd level of ranger you got to dual without spending a feat.
Yep, you definitely have to "buy" it with pure rogue, not a class granted feat. The thing about shields to remember though, is they also cap your maximum dexterity bonus to armor class in most cases. So you gotta look for mithral.
Good info here, including equipment recommendations, etc.
I am not too familiar with dragonmarks either but I have heard that the halfling line of dragonmarks are particularly good. Halfings make outstanding rogues too.
You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.
On Dragonmarks I just got it to try them out. That whole multiple choice quiz you gotta take to get one stinks. I had the answers written down after I many many trial and errors. I can't find that sheet now with the answers to the questions!!!
I don't know what I would have to give up. On the paladin I think I gave up large shield, something like that. I asked several paladins which they said large shields feat were not all that great.
decisions decisions...

Pure rogues shouldn't use shields since they aren't proficient with them. If the rules are proper in the game, a rogue with a shield will have a minus to their ability to hit. Anyone who duel-wields must have the proper feats or you are gimping yourself. I wouldn't worry about Dragonmarks if you're new to the game. They generally aren't very min/max at all and tend to be more for style, such as most paladins I see being able to teleport, etc.
DnD character creation is about as complex as it gets. People think making fighters is easy, but it can actually be the hardest due to needing certain feats to take other feats, needing a stat of x to qualify for the feat, etc. Best thing to do is read some character builds on the DDO.com forums. At the worst, find an already-built character you like on there and follow that template.
Main advice is probably to avoid multiclassing unless you know what you're doing. A fighter/wizard/rogue/cleric may sound good, but in nearly all cases he'll actually suck bigtime. Never be afraid to stick with one class in D&D.
Actually want to comment on the shields part, so long as a shield has a 0 Armor Penalty check there is no minus to skills (and even then it is more physical skills such as jumping, swimming, being stealthy that take a penalty). Such shields are (I believe, at work now can't really check) Light shields, bucklers, hvy darkwood and hvy mithril shields. And honestly even on my Two Weapon Rogues (I have 5 of them I am a Rogue-aholic) I at least carry a shield because there are times I have needed it.
