I have been reading the posts about Guild Wars and about RP and I wanted to give my 2 cents. First off I love RP but I also really love MMOs. I know (And I am sure you do too) that there are guilds that RP in Guild Wars, but I have to agree Rp is not done by many players. HOWEVER I think this can be a great game for poeple who like RPGs. I loved Baldur's Gate, making a character and playing them out in the world, I was an addict of Neverwinter Nights and especially playing online on a hardcore RP server, there is where i fell in live with RP.
The reason I am saying this and posting even is I don't want Rpers or fans of RPG to turn away from this game because RP isn't the focus. The whole world is instanced so you can play it alone, or with friends or any combination. The stories are fun and it isn't repeat it's self like WoW does. I would say if you like RPGs and want to play a multiplayer RPG check it out.
Though I will say I miss RP I do always have fun playing Guild Wars.

Hey, the idea of even thinking of some real guy who thinks he's an elf creeps me out. I mean...I've played table top RPG, but even so people still trying to be "human".
RPing is only cool if you're this guy...
I must say, I've never really gotten RPing anyway. It's a bit too much for me to delve into...
I am a big fan of the RP myself. GW never really stroke me as a game where people would spend more time RPing than actually PvPing. In my opinion, GW is more for the epic battles in the arena type of people. PvP is the biggest aspect.
Instanced world is a good implementation is plausoble but it has many of its own downfalls. Just like in any RPG, one must seek like minded people and have a great time. Therefore, that is my advice to all who wish to RP.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue."
The posts like a few in this thread are likely the reason most people don't openly RP even if they'd like to. Personally, RPers are such a minority of gamers that any game that goes big is likely to stifle them. Whilst I love RP, I likely wouldn't do so in games like GW just because I'm not one that's really well inclined to deal with people trying to spoil the fun with either open derogatory comments simply because it's not their cup of tea or even subtle disapproval. For those that couldn't care less on the jerks, I salute you and also support the idea of just finding a like minded group. For those that just don't wanna deal with it, I recommend just finding games that are solely RP driven. I got so exasperated I just started enjoying GW for GW and RP table top with friends or in the many text based MMOs that still float around.
BTW, there's a difference between thinking you ARE an elf and just playing a part. Gaming is the closest some guys are gonna get to being Orlando Bloom.
