Pretty good read, I learned a lot, thanks for posting it. (I loath watching podcasts, which seems to be Mythics major communication medium these days)
But I was already sold, just waiting for the game to come out so I can play it. While I would love to see a March release as the article mentioned, I'm just not seeing that happen. If it arrives before June I'd be thrilled.

You have to note that previews are made to point out the good and not the bad, so while it shows everything as all roses, they can't talk about the bad points so much yet because the game isn't released.
" Since the beta, a rewrite of the career and skill system has taken place, as well as the addition of capturable keeps and siege towers, adding a certain amount of persistence to the realm vs realm endgame. The earliest the game could be released is probably summer, but autumn seems more likely. "
GG. =(. I really don't feel like waiting till autumn.

So much for the game being built up from the ground from the start again, It's really beginning to sound like a lot of the stuff we're getting is thrown together in the last 6 or so months. That's not very hopefful imo :S

Yes lets ignore response from testers and keep the game the way it is and not try to make the game better because it might scare off people. When they start taking things away from the game then i'll start getting pessimistic.

In beta tests you can't listen to the forums and all the people playing the game other than bug fixing and performance improving. It's all the people who got into beta and not playing it that you want to hear from about why they arn't playing the game anymore and what they didn't like about the game. The beta testers left playing are fans who love the game how it is and wont give you the proper feedback needed to improve the game and attract the masses. This is why in alot of mmorpg beta tests you geta ll the fanbois on the forums who flame the other testers for their critisims of the game....
More often than not the people who didn't like it are the mass audience and the people who are the fans on the forum are just the vocal minority.
That said once the game is launched for 2 years you have to listen to the fanbase or you'll **** them off and the players you're trying to attract wont come back after the revamp because they played the game at launch and hated it and don't give games another chance.

Maybe I'm just not understanding your logic...are you saying they shouldn't take into considerations testers and people who have interest in the game during TESTing and instead listen to people who have no interest at all and have never played it? Sounds like you support perhaps what they did to SWG then? you know thats part of why they decided to NGE the game.
You have to take into accoutn feedback from all sides not just testers but its obvious so far they must have a good set of testers and be getting alot of constructive responses. Unlike the flame / troll bait threads that people tend to post here.
Any company that listens to only fans and / or only people who don't play the game is bound to fail. They still have to make sure whtaever they DO do is within the focus of the game's parameters. If its not then .. game = fail. The changes they've made and things they've added actually were related to concerns that obviously like they said testers in the past and of course all of us in the past have discussed.
Considering they've not removed any of the things they've currently promised I can only take the changes they've made due to feedback as good ones. When they suddenly take out city seiges & make the game completely PvE *cough WoW* then I'll be completely concerned.
BTW Beta testing isn't just about bugs & performance. They pay people for more thorough reports on bugs. You're there to test how things work, whether it keeps you interested and if not why not? Why is such n such mission boring? How come you don't like the RvR or this mechanic or this zone. Thats the sort of feedback that they look for in beta testing. If something sucks & its completely boring they want to know.

People complain either way...
Either it is, "The developers do not listen!" or it is, "The developers are changing the game because they listened, so it must suck!"
If something in WAR is not working and could be improved, or something good can be added to make the game better, I support EA Mythic doing so, just like I would support any developer. It does not mean their game sucks, it just means it could be made better.
Clearly, the game was not up to their standards, so I do not really think it is fair to hold changing things against them. Many companies would just throw the game out their to make a quick buck, due to pressure from the publisher, but fortunately they are listening and tweaking as necessary. Taking beta entirely down and making large changes shows their commitment to the fans.
I mean, what do people think beta is intended for, anyway? Gauging player reactions and adjusting as necessary! Otherwise, there is really no point to testing the game outside the company and they could just release the game and pray we like it.
Besides, EA Mythic has not committed to any release date at all - Q2 2008 is an estimate and a goal, but nothing more. If they change a lot and thus need time to re-polish it, they will take that time. People keep saying it is six months from release, and it might be, but we do not know. Mark Jacobs has recently said the game will arrive precisely when it is ready, not early and not late, and that he is happy to, for the first time ever, be able to do that with a game.
Personally, I am thinking we will see it in Q3, precisely due to recent changes that will require additional time to polish and perfect. They have already pushed back their estimate twice (or maybe thrice, I forget), and I do not think they would hesitate to do so again.
