I want to give Fury another chance... but it won't let me

I bought Fury, retail, for $40 US.  I don't spend money on games very often, I bought Fury because it seemed, well, perfect for me... I play MMORPGs, but always end up hating the grind, hating the PvE, and wishing I could just PvP all day without interuption (not literally, I do have a job you know :P).

I got the game home, installed, and my first disappointment was... the longest... install... ever.  Next, the update... or should I say, non-update.  It refused to download the patch, I finally got help with it, then it refused to install the patch.  When I finally got it working weeks later, I logged in... only to be disappointed by the graphics and combat, the load times, the endless gameplay bugs, the server downtime, and the utter lack of direction (it seemed like there was tons of room for improvement for my character, which was at the same time disappointing because grind was the last thing I wanted to engage in, but also... disapointing, as there was, that I saw, no mention of how to go about it in the Fury manual, and certainly not in game).  I played about twice, then said "fuck it", { Mod Edit }, CSS, and occasionally replaying HL2.

 

Recently, I got the itch to give it another try.  It's easier said then done.  As before, I'm having no luck downloading the patch I need to play, but unlike before, no matter where I look, I can't find the information I need to work around it and get it going.

 

My error:

Unable to download patch file: ftp://74.205.94.123/FuryPatch30323_to_32878.zip

Patch download failed.

All the time, every time.  The customer support pages, one no longer exsists, the other no longer works.

 

Even when I try to give it a second chance, all I get is disappointment... but I still want to do it, God only knows why.

    I'd have to suggest  uninstalling whatever parts of the game you have, then downloading the patch from somewhere like File Planet. That's how I got it... download took awhile, but the patch loaded by itself when I tried to run the game for the first time. It's free to download, so you should be good to go. When it finally does ask you for an authentication key, use yours from the retail version.

    Hope it works. The game is much better, apparently, than it was when you last played.

    I ended up just reinstalling from my disk, and after that the full patch cooperated and downloaded.  Working or not, totally unacceptable, I think a big part of Fury's failure was the inability for so many people just to get the game running in the first place.

     

    Anyway, got in game, tried it again... combat... meh, ok, not nearly as fun as WoW but probably more balanced... graphics as disappointing as I remember, on a system way above the minimum requirements I can easily bog myself down to well under 1 FPS by turning up all the settings, and even then it doesn't come close to looking as good as WoW (which runs at 20 FPS still with settings on full).  Still buggy, still very little information on how to progress (and to be perfectly honest, making lack of grind a key advertised feature, then seeing people with twice as much health as myself and weapons nearly twice as good, while earning money and items at a snail's crawl,  is pretty depressing), really feels like a private server, but without the classic private server lack-of-grind.

     

    I'll keep playing, keep pushing, maybie I just needto get onto the system in place, and get over the system advertised that I was looking forward to and doesn't exsist.

     

    Still... I miss that game advertised on the Fury box, wish it was real.

    If you tried a game for awhile and you didnt like it at all.. Most likely you wont like it any more if you play longer.

    Thats just my observation though.

    I work hard for my money, and dammit, this is a PvP game and I'm a PvPer... I'll FIND a way to enjoy it, even if it kills me... and it probably will, from the looks of it.

    Hmm... I usually tell people to just go to this site;

    It has the latest client and fluently downloads the patches with no problem. I've no issues with it after reinstalling in 2 different machines. Some people have had trouble with making an ID/password, but could be cause the server is busy so just keep trying if it happens.
