I wouldn't play if it looks like crap. For me both are very important.
The graphiics are simply put stunning, and all the people that think that the skin is shiny or dollish type, that game isnt even out yet, its in development still, and you can also change the way they look in character creation, so as far as i am concerned, the graphics are pretty much aced out, i havent saw a game that has better graphics than EQ2, and im sure the gameplay will be phenomenal also.
Playing - CoH and EQ Waiting On - EQ2, WoW, and GW
Currently my main problems with EQ 2 are the character textures (Except the Iksar, their natural lack of hair is why...). The hair is god awful, looks like they just meshed random pollies on their head until it kind of looked like a hair style. The other problem I have, from watching the videos, is the bones system, or the way the characters are animated if you will. It's just awful. The characters don't move well, the way the weapons swing, and the way the monk moves in the videos, not to mention character walking/running, don't look that good yet. The background environments look very nice. To date it have only seen one thing that looks nice and makes me want to try the game. I felt that they should have spent the time and money that the put forth in the nice cg movie toward the game (Maybe fixed the hair and textures, the artists from the movie obviously have the ability, the only problem is making it low poly enough to play on PC's) The problem with trying to be super realistic is that it is easier to be more critical about the game.
As many people have said, content is very important. If not more important then graphics.
I played the original EQ for quite awhile, so EQ 2 had alot to live up to, especially because the original hit burn out point with me.
Just my opinion, I am giving the other side of the argument on how people could say that the toons in EQ2 could look like clay dolls, I have personally said that many many times when people ask me about it at work. But everyone can make up their own mind, and it can all be fixed very easily, just changing some textures and some values would do wonders for the look and feel of the game. The animation would take a little longer, but can be fixed too. And for crying out loud MAKE MORE weapon animations, the thing that killed me about the orriginal was everything that was xx weapon type moved the same way, it got so boring.

You can actually see the middle guy's veins in his hands and on his neck. The 2 other people are wearing armour that would actually be from the middevil era. They don't have some armour that is fancy and looks like it would be made 500 years after the time the game is set in. It gives the game more realism. The person on the left is using shoes that you would normally see in a armour set. (pointed toes) Both the armour wearing people have curved gloves, which is again very acurate. The shape of the 2 breast plates are very acurate to what they would be in real life. Although you would never see a suit of armour for a female, because females didn't fight at all. Regardless, they have done a very good job with the armour accuracy. SOE gets an A+++++++ for doing their homework.

inaccurate, while in most cases females did not fight there were exeptions, joan of arc being the european example as well in the orient female samurai.
caught me there, what i meant to say was that Females didn't fight much. It was rather rare to find a suit of armour set for a female, while it was simple to find one for a male. Both still look exactly like they should have.

A game has to have gameplay or it becomes like a linear slideshow, if you want that you may as well rotate around the screenshots on the game or watch a movie.
I agree both are important, however gameplay is far more important than graphics, if the gameplay is in the game you can play it for a long time.
EQ Classic was a good game, but after SoL Expansion the game became boring and I only lasted until we broke PoP because of the community.
How many people used full on SoL graphics in classic EQ? Was there any point? You got essentially everything you need (gameplay) from the original game.
There are four things that need to be right within a MMoG to make it good or worthwhile playing.
1. A feeling of being that character 2. User Interface 3. Community 4. A balance of fighting, tradeskills and skilling up
If you do not connect with the character the game can become very dull very quickly, the user interface needs to be good else you get frustrated because of all the clicking you need to do. Community, if you are a loner then that is your choice, but a lot of people need to have people along for the ride, shared experience. Finally a balance, a game that is all fight or a game that is all skill gets tiresome.
EQ only failed on the 4th point in my opinion, 'the grind(tm)' was the worst thing ever, for those that made it into a raiding guild will understand why a good community works.
Just to say to all you who think that graphics aren't important. Gameplay is more important, and i agree with that, but graphics are also very important. This is the 21st centuary, technology has gone to amazing lengths in the gaming industry. Back in the 1990's graphics weren't very important and gameplay decided if people would play it or not. Alot has changed. WoW is using crappy old graphics developed 5 years ago, unlike everquest 2. Graphics are very very important. You can't have an imersive feel to a game with graphics like WoW. When you get graphics like Eq2 you really get into imersion. Imersion is very important and it keeps a player playing more. Welcome to the 21st centuary, graphics are important, relize it.

It seems that many people have issues with eq2s graphics, the argument of gameplay's importance over graphics comes up alot, which is really not the object of the discussion. Point being, that eq2s graphics are amazing, regardless of the gameplay. I honestly think that some people who know they will not be able to run the game on high settings have a bit of a grudge against having such a graphically advanced game. Everyone knows that their pc will run wow, making it alot less intimidating. In many cases, the graphical preference comes down to what your pc can handle. When your pc can run eq2 on high settings, is there any reason you would want to have a lower poly count? I have experienced both sides of this, as i was eagerly awaiting wow much more than eq2, until i recently ordered my geforce 6800 gt. Yes, wow has more style, but for me, eq2 just got a whole lot sexier.
I agree that EQ2's graphics are amazing. I especially love the insane attention to detail (like veins and wrinkles in the face or cracks of leather in the armor). I just don't like the style of the avatars. Theres no.....ugh no word for it. The avatars have no.....loveability. It seems soulless. Graphics are nice and all (and they are) but graphics are nothing if you can't feel ur character. Idunno maybe it's just me.

Don't forget the Scottish let females fight too. And even if there was armor made for females in history. I don't think it would be that battle effective to leave gaps in the chestplate for cleavage...*thinks back to Onimusha*

But i say this, He's right! most of those eq2 characters dont have that special loveability, ehhh especially those blue things that are not evil at all! Jersey Christmas they are blue! But dont you worry axel my fat little halfling shadowknight with his big axe and a half will be loveable for sure!
I guess loveability was a bad word to use to describe it. I just meant that although I'll agree the graphics are amazing, it has no style. This game has nothing I haven't seen before, although it is alot shinier now.

You just made no sense. He says both are very important so if either gameplay or graphics are crap he won't play the game. That means if it has good gameplay but crap graphics or the other way around he won't play it.
