When you put a point in a skill you generally get a piece of crap which you have to add points to passive skills just to make it worth using.  This means there isnt 30 skills per class, theres like 8 or 9.  And for a long time your usually stuck with 1 active skill which sucks up all your mana.

well theres actually 18-20 active skills per class, but we'll go with 8 or 9. Passives have secondary effects, such as pyromancers igniting and having increased fire and spell damage to continue burning their foes fter spell use and bloodletters achieving bleed states, which they need for using many of their skills such as blood might and blood hunger. And you wouldnt actually need 18-20 skills either, youd pick a handful that worked together.    Youd want to use fanning the flames for a whisp colossus summoning build, for example,as much as one thats based around flaming dart and ignite, and you wouldnt choose a bloodling and blood imp summoner spec along with corpse explosions.

plus if you did choose every skill, youd miss out on passive bonus effects, and of course you wouldnt have room on the bar.

You can choose whatever weapon and armor type you like by increasing your stats; wisdom =wands, magic staves, cloth armor ,dex=,guns, leather armor, spears, strength= shields, axes, maces, swords etc, hybrid str/dex = polearms. So you dont have to stick with a certain armor and weapon type if you choose not to,a high wisdom 'mage' flamecaster could also spec into dex and have high defense and a gun if they wanted to. another pyromancer may spec into a heavy tank fiery weapon and burning focus build and use whisps to do the damage.

I personally think its refreshing to find a game where you have choice on your character rather than having pure class roles, certainly makes a change.

oh, and grats on using the good old phrase 'dumbed down' . the irony of your usage is pretty astounding.
