LotRO - Housing

One question, will you be able to decide where to build your house? Your own house that people can come and see...

Its rental system. There are houses build ready in instanced zones and you pick one and pay rent

There is an upkeep fee that is ongoing if you want to keep your house.  Exactly like the upkeep fee in EQ2, SWG, or any other MMO that has housing for that matter.

There are 4 instanced neighborhoods you can choose from for housing.  One in each racial area and style.  The neighborhoods are quite large and you see all the other houses in each neighborhood.  Each neighborhood has a fixed number of kinship houses, deluxe houses, and standard houses.  Each house has a yard, path, mailbox, etc.

Each neighborhood also has a public commons area that has things like crafting stations and large gathering places.  As each neighborhood is filled up a new neighborhood will spawn to allow for more houses to be purchased.

There is no free-form placement of houses as one would find in SWG, and frankly I'm glad.  I was at first skeptical concerning the neighborhood system of LOTRO, but I'm quite pleased with it now.  With this system you don't get the ugly urban sprawl and masses of abandon buildings that you find in SWG.
