I think the reason why most people say these things is just because 95% of the players must pay to play. If you are wasteful or un-economic with your cash it won't go far. Those maybe 5% of the rest of us are able to play the game for free because they are careful how the spend their cash. The game is really good IMO, but without depositing hundreds of dollars a year, or for some people a month, you won't be able to experience all the game has to offer. You will be stuck hunting economically with the starter gun, hunting starter mobs forever.
I think if this same game were to be re-released as a pay to play game, it would do really well. Real cash economies scare alot of people away.
I will be playing again once I catch up in real life on bills and whatnot.
Believe what you want when it comes to all the people saying nobody makes money off this game. I have spent a total of $38 since I started playing way back near release. I have recently withdrew $240 and have skills that can be chipped out and sold for even more if I ever decide to quit playing altogether.
Playing - Minecraft, 7 Days To Die, Darkfall:ROA, Path of Exile

Comparing to WoW, which is the other mmorpg I play, progress in Entropia is also unbelievably slow. In WoW I needed 4 months to get to lvl 70, and now after 1 year my main character has all epics gear, been in most of the instances, even heroics and Karazhan are now more like routinely trips. Not to mention I have 4 other characters, lvl 70, 66, 58, 45.
Not so in Entropia. After 3 years of rather active playing I still belong to the vast lower-middle geared player group with main skills only half-way to the effective maximum (not that there is maximum even, but after 10k aiming etc. skills your hit ability wont get any better).
I'm sure realizing this is a BIG problem for many players used to 'level up' much much faster in other games.
Sme starter equipment for new players/characters would be a step in the right direction, a game that claims to be free to play and then forcing you to have to buy entropia curency as soon as you log in does not make me all warm and fuzzy inside.
They can't tell you it's a capitalistic system before you enter.. if they would you would never enter.
Wait.. same goes with real life o.O ..only you are forced to enter.
