Dragonball the movie

So I was checking some stuff out on nbc's web site and I am going to watch an old episode of Buffy when I check on Spike, James Masters, filmography and I find a listing for Dragonball. It's listed as 2008, set to release in August, but check this blurb out:

James Wong adapts the rich mythos of the Dragonball series that grew from a manga into various popular animated series with this 20th Century Fox production starring Justin Chatwin. The plot revolves around Goku (Chatwin), Earth's greatest champion who must defend the planet against an invading race of alien warriors hell-bent on dominating the universe. Wong directs from his own script, with Kung Fu Hustle's Stephen Chow producing. Buffy the Vampire Slayer's James Marsters co-stars as the film's villain Piccolo, with Jamie Chung playing Goku's early love interest, Chi Chi and Emily Rossum portraying his later love, Bulma. Hong Kong legend Chow Yun-Fat rounds out the cast as Master Roshi, Goku's mentor in the film. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

Ummm...so did these people ever watch the show? Emily Rossum portraying Goku's later love...Bulma? He better hope Vegeta doesn't find out!....lol

Not only that, but since the movie centers around the Saiyan Saga, Piccolo is not a villain at all, but one of the 'good' guys. These people need to get their facts straight.

I have heard  the movie takes place during the Dragon ball period, the saiyan saga wasn't there untill the Dragon Ball Z

That info is fucked three ways from friday. Piccalo is not in Dragonball, Chi Chi is not Gokus "early love interest", he fucking marries her and they have a 2 kids, him and Bulma were like brother and sister in Dragonball.

I dont know what they were thinking making this movie in the first place.  It is clearly best left as a cartoon but then to go around and so blatantly screw with character history and also cast Chatwin as goku(Get a Japanese actor or at least someone with a better build)...terrible

But here are some pictures with of Chatwin as Goku

I never watched Dragon Ball (Only Dragon Ball Z) but did Goku ever went to high school?

I think it would be great if they made an anime movie with modern technology. The series first started in 1986, animation technology has improved a lot since then.

first off if i were japanese and a fan of dragonball i would be offended calling it a cartoon.

second there are ten million better animes Samurai X, Gungrave, outlaw star, trigun, etc.

and the dragonball series is the coolest cartoon in 50 years??????

    wtf

I mean putting mark hamil(luke skywalker) as the voice of the joker in the batman cartoons i though at first was a stretch but then it worked out.

This has no shot in hell and will tank worse then waterworld.

I was actually in the first days of filming, if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them.  I was expecting someone to post this about a month ago when we were on set but it looks as though not much was leaked, well minus the set pics, which by the way I think were officially leaked.

I was actually photographed on set and the pics were then printed in a Mexico City newspaper, where they said I was the director, rofl, was very funny to those of us who were extras.

The character of Goku seems to be a carbon copy of Gohan during the high school years in the DBZ anime.  This setting however is between the two first anime's of Dragonball and Dragonball Z.  I wish I could have went to Durango to film the next three months, but alas, I never got the chance.

Anyway, if you got any questions, ask em.  When you see the movie, I'm the extra who wears crazy hats with sunglasses and bright neon finger puppets.  I'm guessing I may stand out a bit, lol.

You are aware Anime is just a slang term for 'animation,' right?  Since animation isn't a noun in English, the correct word would be cartoon, or animated show/movie.

Anime is just a slang shorthand we use.

So then Piccolo will be the Villain? Were they mistaken about the whole Bulma being his new love interest thing, or are they taking liberties with the years between DB and DBZ? Is Krillin in this? I'd love to see Mr. Satan, aka Hercule, make an appearance.

As far as I understand it, "Lord Piccolo" is the main antagonist, although it seems there will be a few different ones in this movie.  The first days of shooting where the "school" and "party" scenes, where Goku is consistently abused and made fun of by the popular jocks, led by a character named Fuller played by an actor named Texas Battle.  Chi Chi played by Jamie Chung of real world acclaim (who's boobies all the extras were debating the natural) plays his love interest and it seemed as though they would be consistent throughout the movie.  The thing is, I have no idea if the later parts of the film go into the future at all, but I find it very hard to believe, both for manga and anime reasons, that Bulma and Goku would hook up.

Emmy Rossum was only on set a bit, and I'm sorry to say she was a huge dissapointment as far as attitude is concerned.  She is absolutely stunning physically, but still managed to complain about some massive absurdities, she seemed to have a very fragile ego, even though she is so beautiful, possibly she was having a bad day, or possibly she has just lost pride in her own self image, feeling she doesn't look good enough and is in constant need of touching up.

Also, Texas Battle was inviting, in a not so secretive fashion, like every cute mexican extra on set to his hotel.  Saying things like, "you have to travel an hour to get to set each day, that sucks, you should try to get a room at Hotel X"  to which the girl replied, well that's a pretty expensive hotel, I couldn't afford that", to which he replied "Oh, I'm sure you'd be able to find a room".  He then repeated this to girl after girl on set, lol.  Again, sad, seeing as he is, I'm sure, fairly attractive to the opposite sex.

Krillin is not in this, Goku's best friend I can't remember the exact name as he wasn't on set, started with a T but I'll have to try to remember.

Wow, sounds to me like they just butchered this show. It is very long, so I guess they wanted to cram as much as they can in to two hours. But, did they really have to change the plot? Piccolo in Dragon Ball was evil, so that's ok. But Bulma as Goku's lover? That's just not right. Yamcha is in the movie, and he was a love interest of Bulma's at one point. They were even dating. Also, no Krillin? When Goku was training with Master Roshi, Krillin was there as well. They were his only students. I saw a photograph from the set where it looked like he had 5 or more students.

I really enjoyed Dragonball / DBZ when I first watched it maybe 10+ years ago. I guess they just needed to wait for the CGI to catch up. Otherwise, as someone else has already mentioned, there are plenty of new anime out that would make great movies as well.
